I've been here since reading Cocobee's dynasty....like cyanide, I'm here as a stress reliever & is preferable to watching mind-numbing TV....I'll probably have to cut back a little now that I'm starting my new job on Monday & have just started my studies for my Professional Qualifications....ahh well, I'm a procrastinator if there ever was one

Tue Mar 21, 2006 4:15 pm

im doing maths hw now, i do half a question then check here to see if anyone has posted anything... im a better procrastinator than you :P

Tue Mar 21, 2006 4:21 pm

I think it's funny how everyone I know from Australia calls it maths, and in North America we seem to just do it without the s.

Tue Mar 21, 2006 4:23 pm

School's important but not necessary to be successful. I have a college degree that I'm not really using, and I'm making gobs more with what I'm doing now than I would have teaching and coaching....plus I like it better.

What I do recommend for you guys that are still in high school is this: get good grades (it's easy) and learn how to study. If you go on to college, you'll adjust more quickly than those who didn't put forth effort into high school, and if you don't go to college, then you have learned work ethic.

As for the NLSC wasting time, it does, but so do other things: for instance, this website is devoted to playing a video game, and well, most "adults" would say video games are a waste of time. However, it evolved into much more...a community. Humans are social creatures, and this is one way to interact. With that being said, electronic communication is perverting real human communication and it dehumanizes it. People create alter egos to fill a void that they possess in the "real" world and turn the internet into a reality. This can be shown by the banned poster list - how many posters were so obsessed and antisocial that they created multiple accounts only to be banned multiple times for the same antisocial behavior?

But I digress. While message boards and forums are a "waste" of time, they are a way to relax, to vent, to practice writing, and so on. If all we were doing was posting productively in a conversational, friendly yet sometimes heated, tone, for small amounts of time each day without negative impact on our "real world" obligations, then that would be fine; however, that's not the case, as posters in this subject indicate. Not only that, but not all posters are productive members, they spam, or flame needlessly, or whatever and just waste other's time simply because they are socially inept in real life.

What am I talking about? I dunno...thoughts?

Tue Mar 21, 2006 4:46 pm

Thoughts you say. What are you doing right now that iseems to be quite good?

And I definitely agree with you on basically all your points there. Though perverting seems too strong of a word for my liking. But I do know what you mean. There's a guy at my school who is really quiet and doesn't really say much of anything with any substance at all. Then he joined our fantasy football league and was posting jokes everywhere and just dominating it. Seemed really weird. The only different between how I speak (er...type) here is that I have a little more time to make sure I get the wording how I want it. My achille's heel is starting to say something without knowing how to say it.

And long time no chat, how are things? These gobs of money doing well?

Tue Mar 21, 2006 4:50 pm

Hehe, well, not "gobs" of money yet, but I'm definately comfortable. I have a 1000 sq foot apartment, a BMW, and a good looking fiance...definately can't complain. ;) In a little over a year, I'll probably be relocating to Surprise, Arizona...a town not far from Phoenix. If not in a little over a year, then about a year and a half. Then I'll be getting into multiple business ventures (apartment complex, sporting goods store, and, primarily, restaurants)...I'm making around $30,000 right now, just under, but I'll be in the mid 40,000's and my (by then she'll be my wife) will be making something like that as well, but a bit less. We'll be doing just fine.

Oh, and by the way, I'm definately going to get season tickets to Suns games. :D

She's on a cruise so I'm home alone and it's a Monday...I have nothing whatsover to do....so I thought I'd come here, see what has come of hte place. Seems a bit more friendly than the last time I was here...

Tue Mar 21, 2006 5:04 pm

It's not, we just ban people instead of flaming them now.

Tue Mar 21, 2006 5:09 pm

Sounds good. Glad to hear you're doing well enough, and most importantly happy. And I just got back from a cruise less than a week ago. Eastern Caribbean. (Y)

Oh, and by the way, I'm definitely going to locate you and take them from you.

Tue Mar 21, 2006 5:17 pm

*shrug* Hey, if you're in the area, I'll buy you a ticket...that way I can keep mine. :P

Tue Mar 21, 2006 5:22 pm

technically speaking yes. it doesn't accomplish anything in terms of what we perceive to be 'accomplishment.' but you can say the same about a lot of things. I guess it depends on how much time you spend on it and if you're making it more of a priority than it should be. then again, i'm not really one to speak because i've never really invested too much time posting or reading. i guess if you enjoy it and you're not too much of a loser, cool. if you're a fat ugly virgin with no friends, well, go get some exercise and at least try to get laid. and no, typing is not exercise.

Tue Mar 21, 2006 5:28 pm

Ah, that's the important element I left out...how much of a priority the internet is.

To me, a teenager's focus should be, first of all, school, then friends and family, and then extracuricular activities (ie sports, music, writing, whatever), and then quasi-social things like video games and the internet (I realize that playing video games can be very social...but at the same time, how many people play videogames with others locked in a room hundreds of miles from their opponents?).

And that last line is perfect...no one wants to be 30 and a virgin (cue the virginity stories)...

Tue Mar 21, 2006 5:39 pm

Damn, I really agree that we should focus on study during High School more. But here in Asia, the competition between students are so tough and the education here is way harder than those in USA. I got friends who average 2.5 here and they get 4.00 in USA. What's really the difference, is it better to study in USA just for getting nice looking report cards? Or is it better to stay in Asia? Wait what am I saying... 2:48PM @ Computer class.

Tue Mar 21, 2006 5:39 pm

don't get me wrong, being a 30 year old virgin is fine as long as you've had ample oppurtunity. i mean if you're 30 and all you've had is whore then its not that different. and i also discount butt ugly girls. that doesn't count. if you fuck ugly you're still a virgin.

then again if you're a guy and you've had ample oppurtunity and are still a virgin at 30 then i'd say being a virgin isn't exactly your problem....

Tue Mar 21, 2006 5:42 pm

hehe...I had a friend in high school who lost his virginity to a slutty girl (I think she screwed like two of our friends right before or something), so he always said he had lost 1/5 of his virginity. Whores don't count, but girls are sluts regardless, so if you can't get any by the time you're 30...well, that's just sad. Girl's will fuck anyone with the right motivation...

whilst trying to begin my Professional Development education etc, I decided I would watch the Michigan-Notre Dame 2OT thriller....I figured it's a good learning environment as I know that I won't keep my eyes glued to the TV....I successfully completed reading/skimming about 25 pages of crap about the Course Outline....didn't actually get on to reading any of the actual units/info that I was suppose to....will do it tomorrow....might do an online quiz tomorrow too....might play some NBA Live now that you mention it & go to bed

damn it, I have been beaten

hold on, while you were watching that, I was on internet for a few hours doing dynasty updates....ahh well, I give up....you win

and to Shane & all the others, a score is a score....doesn't matter if it's a whore, a slut, a drunk girl, a score is a score....but you don't really learn much off those ones....it's the real scores that are the scores that help you as a scorer....make sense?

I have one today, and I didn't post as much yesterday. I only got 4.5 hours of sleep, but it could've been worse.

I woke up at 8 to finish this report all of us were supposed to make, I go to the meeting at 1 PM, and it turns out I'm the only one who made it. It's been shifted till tommorow. :x
