Are white people afraid of black people?

Yea like I said before, I think its just mainly the older group of white people say like 40+ maybe a little younger that are scared of the younger generation of black kids say in their 20's. And the only pic I've took of myself straight in the face was that cyberface pic and that was for my cyberface On my myspace, I'm not really looking mean on alot of my pics, but I can understand what you saying that most black kids are like that because at my school, the majority of them act that way. It's so many that act that way, and there are so many that are just being normal human beings, its just that they are black and may do some black people type things.

It just rang a lightbulb and reminded me of this documentary I saw, but a few have already mentioned it already. Black people act tough in order to protect themselves. You have black people living in shitty neighbourhoods where there's violence, killings, and the logical instictual thing to do is to act tough, look intimidating, and as somebody that wouldn't be mocked, hit, or killed for looking weak. Weakness = fag, according to high school students in a survey conducted in the video. Kind of sad how this kind of mentality is perpetuated in our media and filtering into even the middle class and the rich. It's the poor who's defending themselves, let's not make a mockery of it... but then again, is it a cultural thing? Bah, too many factors.

I don't buy that argument, just because not every black person lives in a bad neighbourhood yet you still get the preppy black rich kids who pose like gangstas and dress the same despite the fact that the only immediate danger to them is going over the limit of their credit card.

But the thing is, the gangsta clothing and attitude are always present in the youth, not in the more mature black population.
I think another very important factor is not the money, but the education of the subject. Has anyone seen a professional black man in his 30s wear a XXL jersey and pants, looking at people menacingly?

The black people most white people are generally scared of ARE the youth. People between 16-24 who do dress like that and do act as if they want to beat people up.

yeah and just stand on corners or something for the whole time staring at people that walk by them.... its a little creepy, but thats mainly a general stereotype because if you get to know them they are pretty chill.

and different classes probably cause they dont got the money to by straight up normal clothing? i dunno. just dont mess with them cause they come in packs

I dont know how I would react if a group of black people walked up to me. I've never, ever, in my life been encountered that way. I feel somewhat sheltered living in the middle of nowhere (the black population is like less than 5% here).. I really dont like the seclusion of living in the mountains (in the south). The stereotypes here are pretty bad.. moreso towards mexicans than anything else. It is part of the reason I'm planning to move out as soon as I turn 18... it'll be a big ass culture shock, but I think it will be for the better.

Amongst the older generations there is/was the fear of an "uprising", that if black people were able to gain positions of power (employers, politicians, etc), wealth and freedoms such as voting they would "destroy society" or force white people into undesirable lifestyles, or something equally foolish and racist. White people that have been brought up with that way of thinking may still hold that fear today, even the younger generations.
