The japs tried to kill my grandfather, killed one of my grandmother's friend for speaking a word of Korean. I've heard many other horrible things that were done specifically to my family which I don't remember right now. I think my grandfather was also forced to fight for the japs in a war. Fighting a war you don't even want to fight for is really cruel.
An American pilot bombed and killed my grandmother's (mother's side) sister, caused my great grandmother to go temporarily insane. Which also means that Americans tried to bomb my family.
So it's not all "racism" as in traditional stereotypes affecting my behavior.
I mean, hearing all these gruesome horrible stories doesn't help neither. Ever heard of Rape of NanKing? Research it. There were 3 people supporting the atomic bomb in the beginning of eastern civ class, after the rape of nanking discussion only 3 people out of the 20 in the class actually opposed the bombing of japland.
What do you mean not national? Well I guess japs can be a race, but they're not really.
The GOAT, like I said before, I was just emphasizing specifically about not hating Muslims because Habakuk was suddenly saying I hate Muslims. It did not mean I only like Muslims and Asians or something. I am not racist. Jeesh, seriously. What the hell.
How come when other people post about hating homosexuals they aren't flamed?
How come when someone else posts about hating japs they aren't flamed?
Why me?
Seriously, I don't get why you hate me. I haven't really said something that somebody else hasn't said in the forum, yet people target me. wtf?

It's a terrible past, but is this stuff still occuring? I understand where you're coming from, as there is a certain prejudice passed down from history, but are you going to teach your kids to hate Japanese people just because you've never been almost killed by one, but your grandfather has? It's like passing down hate where responsibility was done in the past. Move on, I say.
How come when someone else posts about hating japs they aren't flamed?

Relax, nobody hates you, and nobody is targeting you. We're just debating, and I enjoy reading your posts, so don't take it too seriously

I couldn't get into it... I did try though, I watched a huge Seinfeld Marathon not long ago.. it was on all day lol and I laughed about 3 times in like 5 hours or however many ridiculous amounts they showed. Same thing happens with alot of American shows, Everybody Loves Raymond (though I do like it a bit), Friends, 2 and a half men (fuck that's horrible), Sex In The City (hate it), Desperate Housewives (hate it), The OC... I think for me Seinfeld was too weird or too obvious that I just couldn't find it funny. But yes, much like my dislike for The Beatles I'm in the weak minority.
Wed Aug 17, 2005 5:43 am
Same here, I dislike Seinfeld, I don't find his stuff funny. I like Friends though, just because of Joey & Chandler though. Joey is so stupid it's awesome. His own show though, tis not up to standards.
Raymond's facial expressions are good, the lines aren't funny but the way he delivers his shit is quite amusing. 2 & a Half Men is horrendous. Sex In The City is too womanly for me, same goes for DHW's.
Everyone's raving about the OC but give me a kickass dark/drama comedy like the Soprano's or a hard hitting show like The Shield & shows like The OC, where I'm supposed to give a fuck because of some anorexic woman's drug addictions & be amused, can be fucked.
Wed Aug 17, 2005 6:10 am
Joey was the main reason why Friends was such a success.. the guy was hilarious
Wed Aug 17, 2005 6:52 am
The reason I still have a grudge against japs is
1. They are trying to erase the fact they had comfort women (basically many Korean women were forced into prostitution in the military).
2. They have not really formally apologized.
3. They keep on trying to revise their history to make it look like they are the innocent ones. (The atomic bomb is of course the center of this).
So the official stance of the government is: We're not sorry, in fact, we're not responsible. Imagine if GERMANY did that!
Seinfeld is good, but I think it's a tad bit overrated. Same thing with Friends.
Probably it's because shows go too long...the biggest example: The Simpsons. After season 10 the show started showing signs of disentegrating. Yes there are solid episodes here and there. Of the most recent ones Future Drama wasn't too bad, but then there was that ghastly Super Bowl episode which had way too many NBA voiceovers that said nothing useful.
After LeBron took the mash potatoes off the table and said "...and LeBron with the steal!" I died a little inside.

you're an asshole, no one cares about your excuses, shut up and never mention it again. I don't care if it's "national hate", it's prejiduce, and that makes you an asshole. so just never talk about it again or please don't come back.
Wed Aug 17, 2005 7:05 am
Bangyounh, I understand your family went through hardship against the Japanese but to say you hate them is too strong. Personally I think you should rephrase what you say. That was the past.. I dont like the American government but it doesn't mean I hate Americans in general. Technically you're considered racist or setting a prejudice against a certain nation. Which is in the same books, so don't get technical with words.

bangyounh wrote:3. They keep on trying to revise their history to make it look like they are the guilty ones. (The atomic bomb is of course the center of this).
Why would they do that
I beleive you meant to say look like they are the victims, and in the case of the atomic bomb, they were.
Wed Aug 17, 2005 7:33 am
The G.O.A.T I don't get what's your problem. I don't think I've really said anything that offends you in any way.
Please explain why you're mad.
I predict you'll say "you're an asshole, shut the fuck up" or something, whatever.
Look, I personally believe race doesn't exist, so whether I am an Asian or White does not matter. If I were "racist" I would be insulting myself because I don't believe races really exist as a separate scientific identity. I'm not saying racism doesn't exist. Racism surely exists.
I'm sorry, but how would you people feel if all the stories your grandfather and grandmother ever told you were stories about suffering from the japanese? And after reading something like the japs raping thousands of people and killing infants, playing games by throwing babies in the air and spearing them while the fall, having contests of how many people they could behead in nan king, the stories of all the experiments done on humans, the foundations of biological warfare were experimented on Koreans and Chinese, wouldn't you feel angry?
I'm really sorry I said all this, but August 15th is Independence Day in Korea and it made me reflect on everything again, and I really felt like venting on my hatred, just letting it all out. I have really moved on, but every time I hear that japanese are trying to correct their textbooks, I can't help but get angry. What if the US were to erase slavery as a whole? They just decided to change textbooks to avoid all issues regarding slavery. That would be inexcusable and a horrible deed. People would be outraged, much like Koreans are outraged Japanese are taking their occupation of Korea and China out of their textbooks or defining it as "protecting Asia".

All the things you are talking about are the Japanese government, not the Japanese people.
You cannot blame the average citizen for the deeds of the government.

Agh..well I changed it. Yes the atomic bomb was horrible, but looking at the emperor's records, what would have happened IF the atomic bomb was not dropped would've been worse. In fact, after the first atomic bomb, they were still willing to "sacrfice 2 million men". The reason why they surrendered was because they learned that the emperor would be saved. FDR purposely leaked a message saying the emperor would be saved if Japan surrendered, the japanese then surrendered.
Not to say the atomic bomb wasn't horrible, because it was one of the most horrible things done to man.
Yes, the government is to blame, I understand...and you are 100% right..but it's just hard to separate the government from the people..I mean a lot of people equate Bush to America, which is sad, because 50% of America at least does not agree with Bush. I haven't done anything wrong to a Japanese person before though, nor would I. Just every once in a while when a big event happens in Japan, like correcting textbooks or something, I am reminded of all the things people have told me, and I have learned in Japan. Sigh...sorry about everything.

See, that's where you have to open your eyes. Just like what you said about 50% of American people being against Bush, probably an even LARGER percent of Japanese disagree with the actions their government has taken. Take that into account for a minute.

Most of the times, I'm ok with Japanese, it's just that independence day was a few days ago. Not like anything I do will make the Japanese apologize or anything anyhow.
