Bush rushed into this war before the effects of 9/11 on public opinion lost in intensity. There was no reason not to allow UN inspector to finish their job, instead of bombing right away. But Bush wanted to ride the devastating effects that 9/11 had on Americans and on the rest of the world. Had he waited more months, the entire world would have been against this war.

I think Bush doesn't give a fucking shit about iraqi people, as he doesn't give a shit about Saddam. He wanted the oil, that's it.

The thing is that "freedom" is the most important value in american society, and it has to be...it's a good thing. BUT.....it's always used as a psychological weapon by politics to gain support from american people. Just throw the word "freedom" to justify your actions and Americans will give you a thumb up.

My suggestion is, again, Wake up! I lived in Italy many years and in america for a few years. There is more freedom in Italy than in America. If you had lived in some other country for a while you would see how little freedom you have here in the US.

This is not the "land of the free" and this is not "the war for freedom". They're just brainwashing you. Trust me, I have no interest in lying. I love american people, they are good people. But in this country you have little or no knowledge about the reality in the rest of the world. You are pretty much isolated (for geographical reasons, if you will....and also because you are so powerfull that you can pretty much afford not to care too much about what's going on around you).

But this makes it easy, for people who hold the power, to make you believe anything they want. American media just don't tell the truth or, at the best, they tell you only part of the truth. So, you (meaning: americans) are not to blame for not throughfully understanding what's goin on, because you really don't have the option of choosing a different source of information. You grew up with a mindset ("we are the best, we are the free ones") that is hard to change as it is embedded in years of history of the american society.

I don't want to sound arrogant, I'm just trying to make you think. What if I was right? What if really Bush was only fighting for the oil, pocketed by the American Oil lobby. What if you were a prisoner of a system which is built in such a way to make you think you are free, when you are actually not. I know it sounds like Matrix, but that's just my most honest opinion.

I'd say attaining oil and finishing his daddy's work is legit enough for going to war -- at least it is to Bush. What's even more sad is that he tried backing it up through false intelligence and suspicion which has been proved wrong.

You're absolutely right. I didn't mean to imply that the war is completely justified or anything like that. Perhaps war is really just a "legal" form of terrorism.

I never took history in high school, but if im not mistaken, the North (backed by russia) would have demolished the south, forcing communisim on the whole country. It would be like nsw and victoria joining forces and taking over all of australia to force communisim.

That's true, not all of Vietnam was pro-communism. It was mostly the parts of Vietnam whose economy was agriculturally based (which happened to be quite a large portion of the country at the time) that favoured communism. Communism isn't suited to countries whose economy is industrially based (like the US and Australia). Ho Chi Minh's intentions were much more honourable than those of say Hitler or Stalin.

Actually, terrorists do have a history of aiming at political figures along with innocent people. The plane that went down in Pennsylvania on September 11th was reportedly heading towards the White House.
