Professional Wrestling (WWE, TNA, ROH, etc)

Other video games, TV shows, movies, general chit-chat...this is an all-purpose off-topic board where you can talk about anything that doesn't have its own dedicated section.

Company officials tried to talk him out of leaving but ended up letting him walk.

Gee, you think not treating him like crap might've worked?

- One of the major sports names that WWE wanted for WrestleMania was Miami Heat player LeBron James. There is pretty much no chance at all of him appearing as the Heat have a game the same day as WrestleMania.

This is the reason that The Miz has cut several promos on TV and in the media about James lately.

It's said that WWE had other sports stars in mind but word is that it doesn't look like any of them will work out.

heh

Sadly, it's probably still better than the whole Mystery GM angle.

So, with the year almost over, what are some of your favourite moments in professional wrestling from 2010?

Mine would have to include:

  • Bret Hart's return; pretty much everything about it, really. The match with Vince at Wrestlemania did go too long and could've been done a little better, but I liked the closure it brought both on-camera and behind the scenes. The build up was pretty well done, I actually liked that he won the US title; it's a secondary belt, it didn't hurt The Miz in the long run and I think it's a situation of the moment outweighing any long term booking plans. It was great to see him back, work a few matches as well as he could given his health and it's good to know he's on good enough terms to appear again in the future.

  • Taker's promo on Vince prior to calling out HBK, in which the line between the product and backstage were very much blurred. Knowing Taker was the one who went to Vince's office backstage at Survivor Series 1997 and demanded he explain himself to Bret and the rest of the locker room really made the promo, giving it a worked-shoot kind of feel.

  • Undertaker vs HBK, Streak vs Career. It wasn't quite as good as the Wrestlemania 25 match, but still a Match of the Year candidate and a great send-off for HBK. Taker helping HBK to his feet at the end and extending his hand was an awesome moment, simply because it's rare for the character to do that, along with coming out and tipping his hat to him the next night on RAW. Great mark-out moments.

  • This:

I'm sure that his genuine dislike of the IWC aside, off-camera Michael Cole is probably a nice enough guy and I'm sure he tries his best in an unenviable role: trying to replace the legendary Jim Ross. Still, the fact of the matter is he's just not in JR's league and making him the voice of WWE, not to mention making that claim on-air to draw heat, just isn't right. Given the way his on-screen character has been running his mouth all year, it was very satisfying to see said character get his comeuppence via an RKO.

To me, the series of matches between Ziggler and Danielson would be one of the showstealers of the year. The Sheamus-Morrison feud is also good. Miz's push though still feels sooner to me.

I don't find Miz that entertaining or really buy him as a world champion either, but to his credit it doesn't seem to have hurt business.

I dont really have any favorite moments of the year....I actually kind of wish I could stop watching it but I'm still intrigued. Im happy to see the Bret Hart saga end and while I like the chances creative is taking in WWE with Miz and Nexus (again).

I wish TNA was in better shape than it is right now. I really liked the Angle/Anderson feud and while I got excited about ECW2.0 that just flopped terribly.

Ill think more about it, but all I got is Bret right now.

For me it's probably Kurt Angle vs. AJ Styles on the 1/4 editon of Impact and the Best of 5 series between Beer Money and the MCMG.
For the sake of throwing in a WWE match, I'd probably pick Bryan/Ziggler too.

Beer Money vs MCMG was def the highlight for wrestling, and 2nd for me was that empty arena fight between MCMG and GenME.

me too. i have a set of wrestlers i like to follow anad watch, then watch the shows on youtube or other sites like that and then skip the parts of wrestlers i dont care to watch.

meh, i didn't buy into the 5 match series maybe because i don't really like either of the teams, but i just waited for the 5th match and skimmed through it.
i say Bret too. and anything to do with Jericho especially "Of Course You Have an Email You Idiot Just Read It !!"
phpBB [video]

oh and i loved that RKO on cole too. cole makes me miss the coach. coach played a better heel.
wrestlers i've watched/followed this year... bret, kaval, bryan, goldust, jericho, alberto del rio (kind of), christian. hart dynasty, r truth. didnt really watch smackdown at all.

Shame that the Beth-Natalya match would be next year. IMO they are two of the only Divas that can really wrestle. Beth turning heel will set up the WrestleMania match.

A step in the right direction for WWE: WWE Nixes Guest Stars On Raw

It looks like WWE has finally done away with the guest host/star concept on Raw. The page for "upcoming guest stars" has been removed from the official company website.

The guest host concept was birthed in June 2009 and lasted throughout the majority of 2010.

Just to clarify, I don't like Cena's gimmick anymore than anyone else over the age of 12 but I do think Cena hatred within the IWC in general is a bit passe. He'll never be mistaken for Bret Hart or HBK in terms of being a ring general but he's far from being a terrible worker, for better or worse he elicits a strong crowd response and he seems to have a genuine passion for the business. I wouldn't wish injury upon him because at the end of the day he's a fellow human being and like him or not, I have to respect his dedication to the business and the risks he takes as a professional wrestler. So while I certainly understand the sentiment, I don't think any injury in the business is cause for celebration.

But as far as the character is concerned, I certainly won't argue that it's stale, corny and the company has missed several great opportunities to freshen it up.

John Cena is not bad, only thing I hate is his superman booking and his moveset being pretty much the same every night.

His moveset isn't really any more limited than The Rock's was, or even Stone Cold's (especially following his neck injury). The booking is a big problem, but Orton's booked pretty similar these days too.

Ah yes, probably a heel turn once he returns. So now the Straightedge Nexus will be dealing with another wrestler now that Cena is out.

Perhaps a returning HHH? Assuming he doesn't do another program with Sheamus.
