The "Last Movie You Watched" thread

Other video games, TV shows, movies, general chit-chat...this is an all-purpose off-topic board where you can talk about anything that doesn't have its own dedicated section.

Has anyone seen WALL-E?

Yep. Totally recommended, even for an older audience. It has a cliched theme, but presents it in a non-preachy, cutesy kind of way which makes you enjoy the movie.

Maybe im just too into the godfather. But i've seen scarface several times and still think it is a poor excuse for a gangster movie. Maybe it was too hyped for me or something but everytime i watch it im just like "dammit why is michael corleone talking with that outrageous accent?"...
Although the end scene is bad ass: if i had a mountain like that, i could swim in it :P

Scarface is not a gangster movie. The whole focus of the film isn't about gangsters in general.

Scarface is more about an individual's rise in power through hard work and "integrity" but with power, greed and corruption led to his downfall.

I just watched The X-Files movie today. It ran like an ordinary X-Files episode except longer and slightly more intricate. I liked it, but then again I am a huge fan of the series. I wonder how the movie was accepted by non-fans.

I saw that not long ago. Apart from the T&A factor, I didn't think it had much going for it.

I watched "An Evening With Kevin Smith" (the first one) over the past couple of days. Really really funny stuff. Wicked long though, like four hours.

Saw Wanted. I'll just ignore that it's based from a comic book and the movie doesn't follow the main concept of the comic. Though the movie manages to stand-up on it's own if you just ignore its comic roots.

If I consider it an action flick, it's an okay action movie. Not good but not bad either and since it's an action movie all you need to do is watch and enjoy the action. If I consider the movie more than what it's supposed to be (action movie), then it fails.

But what caught my attention about the movie is not the movie itself but the possibility of another movie. One of the last action sequences where the lead character goes after the Fraternity base, all that action reminded me of the possiblity of a Deadpool movie. If a Deadpool movie is to be made, the action scenes should surpass or at least be equal to that particular scene in Wanted. Anything less than that is failure, though I prefer if a Deadpool movie borrowed elements from Hong Kong gun flicks like the ones of Chow Yun Fat in his prime.

Another reason to see Wanted is Hearing Morgan Freeman say:

"Kill that motherfucker."
"Oh fuck."

I saw We Own The Night and Vantage Point this weekend.
I thought the first one was a solid gangster-style thriller with great acting. Joaquin Phoenix is always remarkable. The story was kinda average though, so I wouldn't say it was a phenomenal flick, just a good one.
I know Vantage Point did not get terrific reviews, but I was expecting worse. I thought it was pretty entertaining, and while there were definitely a large amount of Hollywood clichés, I had a good time with it overall, solid action movie.

Watched Rambo, Harold & Kumar Escape from Guantanamo Bay, and Charlie Wilson's War.

Nothing special from them, but they were all entertaining in their respective genres. Harold and Kumar was funnier than I expected, but not my-sides-hurt kind of funny, though. Charlie Wilson's War was heavily political, so it may not be for everyone, but I thought the acting was well done, which made up for the movie's lack of an antagonist.

i saw H&K 2 two weeks ago for the first time and i didn't think it would be better than the first. I would say it was about the same, though i still like the first one better. the first one had more Maria in it (i didn't fancy the white chick Kumar was going for) but the second one had more titties.

I pretty much put on my lollerskates and had a lollerpalooza while watching Pineapple Express. Consistently funny throughout and altohugh it was kinda long for a comedy it certainly didn't feel like it.

Have you watched Airplane yet? I need to know so I can understand your level of lollerpalooza before partaking in Pineapple Express.

The Dark Knight - Fucking amazing. Worth the Jackal hype for sure. Probably the best film I've seen this year.

Harold & Kumar Go To Guantanamo Bay - The first one was one of the funniest ever. The second, which was originally going straight to DVD, is dogshit. The jokes weren't funny, and the greater emphasis on story was a bad move by the writers.

futurama - beast with a billion backs. as a long time futurama fan, i thought the plot went too nuts, even for futurama, and the humor was really different. the writers really tried to be unfaithful to the series just to appeal to more viewers, but i really didn't like the change. same with bender's big score, although not as much.

also:
in benders big score, why would you show how seymour was fossilized and how he didn't end up waiting that long? why take from the emotional impact of Jurassic Bark just to explain how it happened? to be honest, i was better off not knowing and taking the episode in for myself.

anyway, beast with a billion backs - not good, benders big score - meh. maybe it's just me, i'm waiting for a movie with "insane in the mainframe" type of humor. i watched space chimps right after, and i was far more entertained.

I never go to see comedies, but I gotta admit that I lol'd quite a lot with Tropic Thunder. There were some pretty weak moments, and I was expecting a little better from Jack Black, but some parts are some of the most hilarious ones I've ever seen in a movie. It reminded me of some old school comedies that paved the way for all the recent ones. Downey Jr. is fantastic, and even though he's a weirdo, Tom Cruise is funny as shit and it definitely shows his range.

I've seen STAR WARS: The Clone Wars yesterday and I only have these emoticons to express my reactions on the film: :( :shake:

So uh,
The film started off really crappy, with a crappy plot, and a sloppy character portrayal on Anakin's Padawan Ahsoka Tano. There are no background stories about the newly introduced character. Plus the movie, having this "war" theme, is toned down into a kids movie. The graphics were great, except for the character models which looked like boxes stacked together. Sadness.

Voice acting is just fine, IMO. But the people who were voicing the main characters Anakin and Obi-Wan were trying too much to imitate the original actors. Obi-Wan's voice was close, but Anakin's wasn't. Plus the "dark" character that Anakin was on the Clone Wars comic book line isn't there, assuming that in his first days as Jedi Knight - and even in his post-Padawan days - he's already too brash.

Overall, I think that the movie was weak. Didn't have much appeal like the Original and Prequel Trilogies. Plus they don't have the intro music played. Double Sadness.
Wanted, Full Metal Jacket and The Dark Knight. Wanted is cool, just your typical action movie
and one of the greatest suicide scenes ever
I absolutely loved the first part of FMJ. You'd think that Pyle posts in the NLSC.
And what can I say about TDK that hasn't been said already? Great movie, best of the year so far (Y)

Though I haven't seen Airplane, I thought Pineapple Express was slow in the first half and but second half was abso-freaking hilarious.

Tropic Thunder was also very funny, a good parody on war movies. It has a weird silly, but smart comedy vibe to it.

Burn After Reading... I found it depressing actually. If critics call it a comedy, it certainly is one dark comedy. I wouldn't watch it again, but it's not bad. It certainly has one of the most screwed up plot and speaks about some of our issues in society well. John Malkovich is one crazy mofo.
