International basketball is hard for me to get used to.... Shit people got mad at me when I drove to the basket... Even my own teammates said I dribbled too much...

How am I gonna get to the basket if I don't dribble? Damn.

Probably here in Italy the obvious answer would be: "Pass the ball 700 times and then pass the ball to the open mate or if there isn't an open mate (most of the times it is like that), then pass it to the tallest man".
They always answer this question with the same phrase...
I have some problems with my coach for this reason too, because when I was in Under-14 I had to do everything because I was the most important man of the team and it suited myself perfectly: I had like 17 ppg, and 11 rpg and my teammates scored lots of baskets too.
Now that I am in Under-16 I just can't stand that I do have to pass the ball to someone else when I know that I could finish the play myself and score, but I have to do it, and obviously my ppg and rpg are lower now: 9.8 and 4.5 respectevely.

Sounds like you want to be the star player. That's definitely a must-have for someone who likes US style basketball. :P

I personally think you should just let it go. If you're winning games and are playing collectively as a team, I think you should embrace your role. Around 10 points and 4.5 rebounds a night isn't too bad for a decent role player.

If your team isn't playing well though, I think you should talk to the coach about it and tell him that you can play a bit better with a bit more freedom.

There's a HUGE difference between U-14 and U-16. Stuff you do in top age of U-14, you wouldn't try against U-16's cos they're HUGE. That's why I suck  , 2ppg, but it's in A grade, so yeah, if I was in C grade, I'd pwn.

Thu Jun 22, 2006 11:55 pm

i played c grade cricket once, took 5-27, the game balls in my room

I know there is a huge difference but I know I can play better if my coach would let me play as I want. I mean, we once played one game and he wasn't there because he had university exams, and the substitute coach and my teammates let me shoot almost every shot I wanted and I ended up with 24 points against a good team (I think we were 1st and they were 2nd or something like that), so I just don't get why he wants to make the whole team build the game around only one player (the big guy, he's 6-8 and he's a monster, but...he's not invincible and sometimes he's tired because he plays with the U-18 team too).
Anyways, what are A grade and C grade?

I actually rack up quite a few assists per game...

How?

Getting the ball in the post (I play post and I run the 2 and 3 as well), passing out to the spotted up shooter.

When they stop doubling me, or are sluggish in doubling.... I try to get mines.

When I drive to the basket, I either lay it up, put up a floater... or again pass out to the corner if his defender comes to help.

The damn europeans and south americans like to run the "shell drill" where they pass the ball around and cut through.... They like to create off of the dribble... Which is fine.

However, I like to do both... I prefer creating on the dribble, or spotting up for the 3 in the corner or on the wing.

Playing Position: Center
Experience: Season and a half
Favourite NBA Player: Kevin Garnett
Realistic NBA Comparison (And Why): Garnett or brad miller. mostly because of the range, the versatility and the quickness. Plus i rack up 3 assists a game in under14's in my second season.

Strengths: strength, quickness, shooting, hook shots, defense(in general), fast breaks
Weaknesses: handles and sometimes consistency begins to be a problem. will go cosistenly well for a while, drops it, get back up but then screws it up.

Favourite move you can do: stutter step and fade away jumper
Favourite move you've done once: crossover, drive to the lane and lay it in..reverse of course
Favourite place to shoot: elbow

Biggest shot you've made: a fast break lay up to break the other teams run

Best game you've played: when i scored half my teams points, and another when i score 18 points in 20 mins
Most satisfying moment: nailing a 3 at the buzzer beater

Most regretted moment: bailing out in my last match because i was tired

Most painful moment: getting wacked in the face

Basketball Goals for the future: NBA

Thu Aug 03, 2006 11:59 pm

Yeah...If all that shit is true then Jenna Jameson must be a virgin

Fri Aug 04, 2006 12:58 am

Name: Denis J.
Height: 6'4" (193 cm)
Weight: 81 kg
Age: 19
Location: Ljubljana, Slovenia

Preferred Position: Point - powerforward
Playing Position: C (while still in the club, i played C because i was the tallest)
Experience: can't really say. Started playing basketball when 9 years old, but spent only 1 year in the club.
Favourite NBA Player: Dwyane Wade, KG, Dwight, Marion, Kidd, Hakeem when played...
Realistic NBA Comparison (and why): Tayshuan Prince (if being little unrealistic I'd say KG, but let's leave it at Prince)

Strengths: shot blocking & rebounding (especially offensive) - i've got preety long arms and i can jump quite high, mid-range bank-shooting and low post, internal defense (my legs aren't as fast as arms) and finding open players
Weaknesses: Perimeter defense, stamina (get fatigued early), streaky shooting from 3point line

Favourite move you can do: Baby hook shot, bank shot & fadeaway jumper (a la Olajuwon)

Favourite move you've done once:
1. Actually it was a pass. We were playing 5 on 5 on the streetcourt and my teammate stole the ball and i sprinted to the 3 point line, my teammate sprinted ahead of me and was expecting the ball...i stopped at the line, turn with my back against the rim and passed the ball of the floor behind my head to the teammate who caught it in the air and windmilled it into the basket.
2. It was a block. I'm not exagurating when i say it was the replay of the Olajuwon's block on Strickland against the Trailblazers ( http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tBFVZNc- ... 20top%2010 here's the link - it's on 10th place). The ball went straight to the crowd..

Favourite place to shoot: low post & around the freethrow line

These are my moments while playing in the club:

Biggest shot you've made: We were up by 1 with 1:40 to go in the 4th quarter. I received the ball around 5 feet away from the basket, faked the defender, and went over 2 players for the reverse lay-up while getting fouled and still hit the shot. That 3 point play iced the win for our team.

Best game you've played: You decide between these 3:
1. Best scoring game; stats: 31 points, 12/15 FG, 2/3 3pt FG, 5/5 FT, 12 rebounds and 3 blocks...
2. Best all-around game; stats; 22 points, 16 rebounds (8 offensive), 3 assits, 4 blocks and 3 steals
3. We were playing against some version of Bad boys :) - they were playing really dirty and physical. Still, I played my game. They elbowed my about 5 times before I started bleeding trough my nose. It was 5 minutes left in the 4th quarter and we were trailing by 3. I would return for the final 3 minutes and make 2 shots down-low and block their attempt to take the lead. We would eventually win. I don't remember the stats, I had about 15 + 9 + 3 game..

Most satisfying moment: When i first dunked over 2 people while doing the putback
Most shameful moment: When i was all alone on the break and was called for traveling and i missed the wide-open lay-up

Most regretted moment: When i stopped playing in the club. I could probably play in Slovenian national leauge or even Euroleauge. But i had stop because besides basketball and studying i had no life. I would come home from school, eat, sleep, go to training, come back, eat, "study" and go to bed. So i had to choose between studying and professional basketball. I couldn't afford not to pursue education and guarantee myself enough money. I probably could play pro ball, but i didn't want to think what would i do if i got seriously injured. I still wonder if that was a wise decision

Most painful moment: physically, when i got all those elbows into my nose. Otherwise, i'm a very sore loser - so every loss is painful for me.

Basketball goals for the future: play on the streets and get better and stronger phsically

Favourite NBA Player: Dennis Rodman

Weaknesses: Perimeter defense, stamina (get fatigued early), very nervous when I played at club....

Favourite move you can do:

Favourite move you've done once:
1. Blocking our own center while in training.
2. Gettin 9 rebounds in 14 minutes...6 of them were offensive rebounds.

These are my moments while playing in the club: Great atmosphere

Biggest shot you've made: Not really a shooter in club games.

Best game you've played: A have never played really good club games. Too nervous probably. Or lack of experience.
Most satisfying moment: /

Thats impossible to get a quad-double at your age and height. Too many bigger PG's out there.

not really, I had about 10 or 11 steals once this season....but I was playing a crap team that just threw the ball away & the majority of the steals were intercepts because I got my hands in the passing lanes....but this was a one off game....closest I've come to that again is 5 or 6 steals....most of my steals are deflections, stolen passes etc & not plain rips....

strengths: 3 point shooting, good array of post moves, defense

weaknesses: strength, speed, streaky

favourite place to shoot: low post, midrange. i can shoot threes but i HATE going out there.

best game you've played: 17 points, 5 rebounds, 11 assists senior year in high school
