Gran Turismo 5 & Forza 4

Other video games, TV shows, movies, general chit-chat...this is an all-purpose off-topic board where you can talk about anything that doesn't have its own dedicated section.

you are correct sir, however this is pretty BA

Since both of these games are very similar, I dont see the need to force a 2nd topic to be made, so I'm going to change the title to Gran Turismo 5 & Forza 4

sick drifting, very nice detail on the car, plus i love the california license plate (for obvious reasons) as it is much better than the plain ones in GT5.

New DLC + Update coming next week.

http://www.gtplanet.net/next-gran-turis ... mber-20th/
Kazunori Yamauchi has announced Gran Turismo 5‘s next software update and new downloadable content will be coming on December 20, 2011. Via Twitter:
[Japanese tweet, translated:] GT5 next update, DLC, Christmas is one week later. On December 20. Tomorrow is going to be a press release.

[English tweet:] The release of the next GT5 update, DLC, and Christmas present is coming next week.

Polyphony Digital has already posted an online service maintenance notice for the date, between the hours of 03:00-04:00 GMT, so the new material should become available at that specific time.

UPDATE: Sony has jumped the gun a bit, posting all the information about the new content on their blog. Here’s a complete listing of all the new changes coming in GT5 2.02:
- Users can now change wheels on Standard cars
- The settings sheets will include a new ‘copy’ feature
- In GT Auto, players will be able to see how the oil changes, aerodynamic parts, engine overhauls, and racing modifications will affect performance points and engine power, before and after their application
- Free coupons have been added that allow you to wash cars, change oil, overhaul your engine, or refresh the car body in GT Auto (10 coupons will be distributed for free to each of those who have downloaded the 2.02 update)
- Pressing the Square button in the car coupon selection screen of the Car Delivery will now allow you to exchange all car coupons at once, rather than doing one at a time
- In screens where the [Garage] and [Driver List] buttons are displayed in the A/B Spec events, Special Events, and Seasonal Events, pressing the Square button will now show the [Garage], and pressing the Triangle button will bring up the drivers list
- In My Lounge, the room settings will feature a new ‘Max. number of participants’ setting
- In the event selection screen of seasonal events, there are now ☆(star) marks that show the number of Gold Trophies attained in each event
- Improved racing sound effects
- Elements of the steering assist controls (used when using certain controllers on Racing Karts) have been tweaked.

These new cars will also be available as DLC for $3.99:
- 2011 Mini Cooper S
- 2010 Volkswagen Golf VI R
- 2010 Volkswagen Scirocco R
- 2012 Nissan GT-R Black edition R35.

The blog post also confirms the Toyota 86 will be available for free in the 2.02 update, and the previous batch of DLC will now be available on all the user accounts of a PlayStation 3 console (they can be purchased from their respective dealers within the game).

Finally, anyone who purchased the first batch of DLC will receive a free “Gran Turismo Racing Kart 125 SP” along with five free “New Car Refresh” cards that reset any car in the game back to as-new condition, without losing any modifications that have been performed to it.

Would have really liked a new track or two and some more exciting cars, but the Toyota looks kind of interesting.

isn't that the Scion FR-S/Subaru BRZ, which I believe was originally in GT 5 as the Toyota FR-86 Concept? the one you get as a prize car that sells for a ton of money?

Seems there will be new DLC out next week. :applaud:

I really have missed the top speed test track on this game. Should be good for drag racing online, if it's able to be used online that is.

Apparent information about Gran Turismo 5′s third round of DLC has appeared here in GTPlanet’s forums. According to “Space Empire”, GT5′s 2.03 update will be launched on January 18th, and will include a few of the following new changes and features:

- New themes for My Home in GT Mode.
- An option for tire wearing in Pit Strategy (B-spec).
- Simulates regenerative braking on electric cars.
- Chaparral 2J Race Car ’70: Fan down force option.
- Fixed unintended pit stop error in the final lap of a B-spec race.
- 12 new colors and 12 new wall papers for My Home theme.
- Electric cars run slowly without applying acceleration.
- Regenerative braking affects the cruising distance.

New downloadable content packs will, reportedly, also become available. The “Speed Test Pack” will include the new “Special Stage Route X Oval” revealed in the recent Honda NSX Concept video, and Car Pack 3 will include the following new vehicles:

- Nissan Leaf G 2011
- Aston Martin V12 Vantage 2010
- Volkswagen Volkswagen 1200 1966
- Jaguar XJR-9 LM Racecar 1988
- Lamborghini Aventador LP700-4 2011
- Mini Mini Cooper S Countryman (R60) 2011

As always, until this information is officially announced and verified, things could change, so you’d be wise to temper your expectations. Regardless, this appears to be legitimate information, so stay tuned for further details as they develop.

Special thanks goes to Space Empire for discovering and sharing this material, and thanks to Carlos Fandango and diegorborges for making me aware of it on such short notice!

braking builds up charges in the car's batteries iirc.

all i did online in GT5 was drag race on the Top Gear track. Bumper against one wall, wait for a certain second mark, then see who hits the other side first.

Loving having the speed test element in the game now. It's just like GT4, only the track is longer and has much better surroundings. :)

Btw, there is a b-spec seasonal event at Spa that's worth checking out (if you haven't already). It takes roughly 27 minutes using my Tom's Supra and pays 4 million credits (200%). It also gives your driver 700k exp.

It ends January 31st though, so it might be worth taking advantage of in case they don't offer a similar event in the future. The trick is to start on intermediates and then prevent your driver from pitting at the end of the 7th, 8th and 9th laps. Easy money. (Y)

the medium tires? how do you keep em from pitting? in gt4 you would hit circle to toggle the pit but i havent figured out the pitting in gt5 yet

Racing Intermediates. They are the more durable wet weather tires. It rains halfway through the race and you get an advantage over the other cars. They all pit in for new tires at the end of the 7th lap. If you stay out you will win easily.

I haven't tried it myself yet, but apparently you don't even need to 'babysit' your driver until the last few laps. As long as he is close enough to the leaders to pass them whilst they are in the pits, he should win pretty easily. You only have to prevent him from pitting in at the end of laps 7, 8 and 9.

Image

Yellow - That is the command list where you can tell your driver to speed up or slow down. You can also ask him to pit in or to cancel a scheduled pit stop. Click on it and the 6 icons come up.

Red - You click that to tell the driver not to pit in on the current lap.

Green - This little icon goes yellow when the driver is planning to pit in. If you click 'cancel pit stop' in the command list it goes back to black and the driver won't go into the pits at the end of that lap. You only have to click it once per lap

No worries.

The only crap thing about it is the 20 million credit limit. It means you have to spend at least 4m before doing the race again or you're losing credits.

Do that Spa race 5 times and you will.

I'm not really sure why they have it. Maybe to discourage people from trying to cheat or something. But you get a PS3 trophy for buying one of the 20m cars. Feels pretty lame having 0 credits though.
