Im downloading it right now at the marketplace.. its only 325.23MB

Thu Sep 20, 2007 4:05 am

the game is pretty decent. 2-4 minute quarters. I never ould get used to the 2k controls and the dribbling, but the game plays smooth and looks great.

nba 2k8 demo on xbox live

Thu Sep 20, 2007 4:16 am

why do the players run wierd
it looks okay better than last year

Thu Sep 20, 2007 4:18 am

why do they run wierd and slow

Thu Sep 20, 2007 5:53 am

i played another 3 games. the game still has some weird effect bugs, but it really plays smooth and way better than 2k7.

i still have no idea what they do when dribbling. it's like the cp chooses the dribble and i just give the direction.

it's still easy to score inside with good players. lebron and parker dont miss much inside and its easy to get inside and get to the line. they just dont dunk as much.

Thu Sep 20, 2007 6:00 am

It doesnt look as good as nba live, but then again 2k worries more about gameplay then looks, and EA is just the reverse of that. Small download for a long time period. I think it was good.

Thu Sep 20, 2007 6:04 am

it was good, but it reminds me too much of 2k7. There were a lot of small things that really bothered me. Every alleyoop I threw went in (BTW I am so glad they finally fixed alleyoops), didnt seem to be too much action off the ball, a lot of standing around. They removed the hands up thing on defense where you hold up on the right analog and then you can move to the right or left to defend.

If I didn't have 2k7, I'd say it would be a must buy. But since I have 2k7 with postdraft rosters, I dont think I will be getting this for a couple of months.

Thu Sep 20, 2007 6:07 am

Out of curiosity, is the 2K8 demo not a reflection of the final game? Especially at 300+ MB?

Thu Sep 20, 2007 6:13 am

Wasn't the Live demo only 500 some MB? They're probably just sending out the graphic files for just those teams, Live's demo had two extra teams remember, plus the commentary.

Thu Sep 20, 2007 6:53 am

Well it is better than 2k7. The graphics are more crisp and the players faces and hairstyles(Varejo, Donyell's twists, Shannon Brown) look pretty good. Computer AI and the overall gameplay is great as always if not better.

And the reason its 300mb is because there is no commentary.

Thu Sep 20, 2007 6:55 am

I had a hard time subing players. The Dpad didnt work, so i had to call a time out to get the sub menu. Then once i did it and pressed A it would resume the game, but the players i subed in wouldnt be in the game, but be walking to the middle of the court to wait for a timeout to be subed. So i had to spend 2 time outs just to sub guys in. But probably the dpad menu system wasnt active in the demo?

Thu Sep 20, 2007 8:37 am

I will be downlaoding soon lol!!!

Told you dudes the demo was on pro. Heres what Mike Wang posted at OS...

a few notes and answers to PMs:

* should've warned you guys that the demo was locked on Pro. game plays much better for sim guys on all-star and above. also, post spin and hop step moves are tougher to score with on the higher levels.
* not sure why the LB mechanic is not working in the demo. that's like 80% of my offense. that's also how you call for a pick. sorry.
* to spin out of the post, hold RT and push LSTICK in the direction of your dribble hand
* triple threat works like 2k7. hold LT+RT, use LS for moves. explode out of triple threat by releasing both triggers and jacking LS while in the jab step or hold ball away animation.
* to throw quick inbounds, hold down the pass button as your inbounder is taking the ball out. as soon as he crosses over the line, he'll throw the pass. inboundee has to be within reasonable range though.
* for teardrops/floaters, pull the shot stick away from the basket while driving. if you hold RT while doing this, your player will perform a reverse or 360 dunk... if he can.
* quick breakdown of iso moves:
o throw LS toward offhand: crossover (+RT: hez cross)
o roll LS in circle motion from ballhand around back: spin (+RT: behind back)
o throw LS toward offhand then immediately back toward ballhand: in & out (+RT: double cross)
o tap LT: while standing = sizeup move (while moving = stepout move)
o tap RT: neutral LS = drifting sizeup, LS toward ballhand = stutter drive, LS toward offhand = stutter cross
o throw LS away from moving direction for stepback move. some players can chain a stepback into a drive by throwing LS back toward the basket during the stepback animation.

yeah I remember playin on my friend's 360 that the dpad sucks at response time. ps3's d pad works a lot better. does anybody know if they fixed that bullcrap where Big Ben can shoot 90% FTs because of "perfect releases" and yet Gilbert who's 99 rated in midrange can't hit open jumpers?

Thu Sep 20, 2007 9:22 am

I have ps3

But I saw a few videos of it, and everything looks different and better than 2k7, even though 2k7 was great already. Graphics look waaaaaaaaaay better than Live 08, and yea, I have the Live demo. Animations suck, and jersey and shorts don't flow freely like 2k.

Official NBA 2K8 Demo Thread

Thu Sep 20, 2007 11:16 am

First, I'm an not a 2K fanboy

I've been playing Live on PC/PS/PS2 since 1998. Live 2007 was a huge disappointment. To me, it feels like Live doesn't care about it's customers starting with the patch debacle last year. 2005 was worst. The programmers focused so much on Dunk Contest and didn't spend a minute on the gameplay. Even 2007 had the same issues as 2005, headband disappearing in players heads, every shot is nothing net, etc. Playing 2k8 was something different. The movement and jerseys were liquid. The RIM MOVED WHEN I DUNKED!! All the small details this game has competely overshadowed my 10 years of Live.

What are your thoughts on the demo?

Thu Sep 20, 2007 12:47 pm

Merging with the 2k8 discussion thread. No reason why the demo can't be discussed in there as well.

By the sounds of it though, the demo does sound impressive. Might have to get my hands on it soon.

dude honestly, i know exactly how you felt when you first played. that's how i felt when i first played 2k7 and there was an over the back foul. but 2k has its own set of problems too, and after playing 2k7 for pretty much 9-10 months almost twice or three times a day online, you can pick off so many things that's wrong with the game.

Nobody likes this philosophy anymore - check NLSC Issues.

I like this demo less than 2k7, and much less than Live 08. Call me a fanboy. 2k series is not nearly as responsive or intuitive as Live (the controls are still just awful), and the graphics in 2k8 are incredibly weak. I'm off the bandwagon for now unless I hear something new.

Shit. I'm sorry. I won't merge topics where the same subject is already being discussed by numerous posters. Cause that is what is being discussed in NLSC Issues, not ways to increase posting around the place.

Should I consult you before any future moderating acts as well? Geesh...

Thu Sep 20, 2007 3:42 pm

I merged a thread into this also, we don't need 50 threads about the demo.

Thu Sep 20, 2007 4:26 pm

Megathreads are irritating; I'd rather have a NBA 2k8 Demo Graphics thread and an NBA 2k8 Demo Gameplay thread than an eight page beast of a thread - especially when we get one, maybe two new threads a day in this section.

Ty-Land wrote:Should I consult you before any future moderating acts as well? Geesh...

I'm not making this stuff up for my own enjoyment, nor did I ever tell you what to do.

You're suggesting 2 potential mega threads to replace one one we currently have. Eight pages is hardly a beast, especially when there's maybe 4 or 5 new posts per day at most. The argument you referenced regarding "official" type threads mostly (well, completely) refers to NBA Talk. This is different, the quality of the forum isn't really going to be affected one way or another by what goes on in video game central.

If someone wants to make a worthwhile thread about their thoughts on the demo that would be fine, but so far they have all been spam and nothing that really warrants having its own thread.
