well when I went away a few weeks back to visit family up north, I got some good advice from my cousin's husband who owns his own personal training company. he showed me the proper form on bicep curls and pushups and I've put to use those tips since I've been back. I gotta say, it seems like my workouts have been more effective. work on proper form and you should notice better results.

I haven't been counting my months or even bothering weighing myself for some reason (I guess I don't really care about my appearance these days), but I've grown in mass in the last couple of months based on what I've been seeing and what people have been telling me. I just weighed myself right now, and I reached my goal, sitting at 191 lbs! As for BF%, I'm still hovering around that 12-13% range. My abs are still there, so I can probably try for 200 lbs, though that's gonna be tough since I already eat like a horse.

For sure. Better results, and less risk of pulling something.

Okay, so I'm considering posting a side by side to show the progress, but I'm not entirely sure I should.

I know what you mean. It crossed my mind before too, but I think I'd be more comfortable posting a pic in the "post a pic of yourself!" thread before posting a before and after comparison here.

Are you trying to get me to post my picture for more jerk-off action? Tsk, for shame!

Hey, I'm running out of material cy, I need your cooperation :cheeky:

Fri Aug 24, 2007 9:02 am

Hahaha, Cy, let me proclaim my love for you over here.

Ladies and gentlemen, if it wasn't for Cyanide's thread and a lot of in put from VanK himself...I wouldn't have done all that I've done up to now.

People that I had written off as dead are now asking for my number and want to suddenly meet up. I hadn't realized the world had gotten so shallow. I guess I had convinced myself it was okay to live in your own created version of Tyler Durden's world.

205 lbs to 171 lbs. I want to get to around 160-165 lbs. Quite proud of myself and the reactions you get from people, that just says it all. :D

How's everyone else doing?

Fri Aug 24, 2007 1:33 pm

I'm still fat.

But I'm going to play ball tomorrow, I swear

Fri Aug 24, 2007 3:16 pm

Drex, you're not fat. You're just big-boned!

I'm at my previous goal of 191 lbs, and going for 200 while maintaining my bf%. Probably won't make it for several months. Where has VanK been? I'm interested to see the progress he's been making so far.

Me too.
I really have to start getting in shape again.

Weird thing is my left side seems to be stronger than my right side now.

My left arm can easily carry a 40 lb. projector just by placing it on the top of my hand without gripping it, like how a waiter carries a large tray.
While my right arm...I can carry it but not as easily and manueverable as my left arm would.
I pretend that I would lose control of the projector while I carry it with my left arm just to scare the shite out of people. Fun.

My left leg is also stronger than my right. I can easily climb 4 floors with most of my weight on my left and I can even do a little hop as I climb up the next step without even getting tired.
With my right leg, I feel a little stiffness in my knee and also get tired after 2 floors.

I don't jerk-off to your picture.
I was hoping to collect pictures of you with the eyes cut-off and build a 'cyanide shrine' inside my closet.

Yes, before and after.

My first post here...

I had been working out on and off for about a year, never really committed to anything until the beginning of this past summer when I told myself I'm going to stick to a regimen. I've always been a slim guy, but I really wanted to add mass and tone to my body. Been at it for 3 months now and I'm seeing results, yada yada yada.

...but about 3 weeks ago, after finishing up my chest workout on the bench press, I felt some pain in my shoulder. It's not a sharp pain, but it GREATLY affects the strength in my right arm. Chest workouts have been an absolute bitch since then and shoulder workouts are pretty much impossible. I even took a 2 week break from lifting thinking some rest would fix the problem, but it hasn't.

Has anybody else experienced similar problems? Or do you guys have any advice on how to ease the pain? I want to do all I can to make it go away before i have to go see a doctor or something. I've had minute pains from lifting before, but nothing that lasted this long.

Mon Sep 03, 2007 3:25 pm

What sort of pain is it? Just after my knees got good enough for me to play a little bit of basketball, I did something to my shoulder coming off a screen. I didn't take much notice till I went to lay it up on the next play, and my left arm went limp. After that I took a 10 minute break because when I was about 13-14 I was throwing a football and had the exact same feeling. Since then, whenever I throw a football too hard or too many times, the pain comes back and it pretty much renders my right arm useless for the day.

I never went to a docter for it (my docter doesn't know what he's talking about), but I think it's still there. The one I hurt a few weeks back may still be there too, but I'm too scared to play right now incase I re-injure it.

If I were you I would book an appointment with a physio and get it checked out, that's what I'm gonna do. If your benching a barbell and you have the same pain as I do, and your arm goes limp, you could drop that weight and really hurt yourself.

Mon Sep 03, 2007 4:11 pm

Damn Shannon, turning into Penny Hardaway now?

Mon Sep 03, 2007 4:20 pm

If I could compare myself to one NBA player (not just game style), it would be Terrell Brandon, unfortunetly. :(

YES! I was trying to describe the feeling to a friend of mine to no avail. But yeah, the feeling you get after throwing a football hard too many times is exactly how it feels. I used to get the same pain in my shoulder from doing that.

I don't think my problem is TOO serious, because after I bench and feel the pain, my arm isn't useless and I can still go and play some ball afterwards. However, it really is affecting my chest workouts so I guess it is serious enough to see a doctor.

Out of curiosity : do any of you come close to the "5 a day" servings of fruits and vegetables set by the US government? Because I don't come close...I'd estimate I eat 1 to 2 servings but I'm unsure because of the vague issue of what constitutes a serving. How much lettuce leaves do I have to consume on that hamburger to constitute a serving?

Wed Sep 05, 2007 11:23 pm

Lettuce is a fruit? I thought it was a veggie.

I get enough veggies in my diet, my mom makes sure of that. Most days there is meat, veggies and either rice/potatoes or pasta. Every Monday we're veg so that's enough veggies.

I also eat two pieces of fruit every day. Usually a combo of banana/apples but also grapes, oranges (squeezed, with pulp) or melons. I <3 Melons.

On the ads we got here the whole idea was a serving was what you can fit in your hand.

A serving is about a handful – this is why we have a hand in our logo to measure servings. Everyone uses their own hand to measure their servings. This means a serving for an adult is a lot bigger than a serving for a small child.

http://www.5aday.co.nz/5aday.html

And having lettuce in a hamburger isn't that healthy, because it's a hamburger afterall. Try making a cold chicken sandwhich with some lettuce and stuff instead.

I eat more fruit than anyone I know, I can't really think of a fruit I don't like. If I see a bag of nectarines in the fridge, they're gone. In fact, I'm gonna run down to the store and grab some fruit soon. I think those shitty imported nectarines are the only ones I can get right now though. :(

Vegatables I eat less of, but still enough. I hate cauliflower (spelling?) and silverbeet. Watercress, Pork ribs, baked potato and tomato sauce is so good, thinking about it makes me hungry as hell.

We have the same "5 a day" thing here, it used to be on every ad break a few years back. Probably because theres so many fat people here.

Lettuce is a fruit? I thought it was a veggie.

The 5 a day thing is any combination of fruit and/or veges, so Lettuce would fit in there even though it is a vegetable.

The "recommended" servings by the US and Canadian government is very flawed. It doesn't take into consideration of age or fitness level, and some of the serving portions are unrealistic. A better choice is to be educated about foods, its caloric and nutritional content, and how it affects your body.

As for lettuce, it's piss poor on the nutritional and caloric level; so don't bother.

Fri Sep 07, 2007 12:27 am

Sounds good to me...estimating "serving sizes" was always a bitch. It's a bit easier to eat by calories...although I often can't be arsed to find the calorie information , especially when it isn't at the actual restaurant and they hide it online :)

Fri Sep 07, 2007 6:11 am

I <3 Melons.

Same here. The bigger they are, the more nutritional value, right?
