BIBLICAL debates 2005

Other video games, TV shows, movies, general chit-chat...this is an all-purpose off-topic board where you can talk about anything that doesn't have its own dedicated section.

Now wait just a minute: WHERE did that original ball/singularity of matter come from??? How did it get there? When? Why? There had to be a beginning, right? A time when the first millimeter of matter appeared, but how could something come from nothing? It's impossible.

Time has no meaning in situations of extremely condensed matter. The same as in black holes and the event horizon effect. Time freezes. When time freezes, there is no before, and there is no after. We cannot make assumptions as to what preceded the Big Bang, because everything "before" that time is simply indefinable... Time was BORN during the Big Bang...

Yes, I've been having some account problems and trying to work around it. You should probably PM me this instead of putting it in plain sight at the bible thread of all places, though...

No, not really.

You're old enough to have read the rules. I shouldn't have to remind you to begin with. Anyways, continue with this ever interesting thread.

seriously i have a cool topic for us this week.......to all the unbelievers.....i invite you to post something out from the bible which you grievly disagree on....or the stuff that makes you believe that the bible is not the word of God.....then that will be the basis of our debates for this week........the evolution theory vs.God talk has kinda gotten us in circles already....so lets try something else for change

Dweaver, you just ran in a circle around what I was saying. Use logic, here, man, and common sense. Time, and life exists now, so there must be a start, right? You said "time was born during the Big Bang. My point was "Where did all the stuff that "BANGED" come from?...

I thought had some good insights there (and unbiased, I believe)...

Anyway I'm with Goku, err, COOLmac here  , it's time to move on from this subject, b/c we've said all there is to say about it, on both sides. For what it was worth, it was a good argument, everyone. (Y)

Use logic, here, man, and common sense.

Let's just say that had Albert Einstein followed this advice , he would never have come up with anything even nearly resembling the special and genera theory of relativity... As I have said before, try and keep an open mind, just not too open...

My point was "Where did all the stuff that "BANGED" come from?...

If there is no notion of time, then there is also no cause-effect laws. For a cause to have an effect there needs to be an even minimal time between the two. Since there is none, there is no cause for teh Big Bang. It just HAPPENED. Now if you want to attribute that to God, be my guest, it is your right to do so. But my scepticism prevents me from attributting all those I cannot fully grasp into the realm of teh supernatunar or divine. I consider this the easy way out of situations and I always try to take the long way home whenever I have the chance...

I agree- I don't believe in taking the easy way out, either, Dweaver. And I appreciate your tolerance, as I too am trying to stay tolerant of your beliefs. (Y)

I don't see having a belief in God as "taking the easy way out," though. In my opinion, I'd be much easier to not worry about if your actions and the direction of your life is one that is serving God in some way. I'd be much easier to just not think about life after death, and live by the philosophy of "you can't take it with you."

For me, a belief in God comes with a lot of responsibility.

But I accept your views, Dweaver, and I vote to move on (but if you want to make a final response to this, go ahead), like COOLmac suggested, to a new topic.

I have a suggestion, if nobody else makes one: let's talk about perhaps the boldest claim of all of Christianity: the ressurrection. :!:

Aye, I agree. Despite my theoretical background, I am a man of science and will probably always be... With that said, I think I will stay out of further discussion if it is going to revolve around specific issues such as ressurection. I'm more of a philosopher than analyst, and like debating about general and sometimes abstract ideas. Maybe I'll make the "PHILOSHOPHICAL debates" thread and all interested may partake in the views posted there. We shall see...

We don't have to talk about that, Dweaver, it was just my suggestion- although, you could definitely make a big debate out of just the philosophical, historical, and scientific aspects of it.

You've been a good contributor to this thread, it'd be a shame for you to go. Maybe you can come up with the next topic to talk about then...

(but if you gotta go, you gotta go- good talking with you, man :D )

Please make a philosophical debate thread!!

I'm tired of all the bible chat in here (no disrespect) but await a nice, hearty and NOT RELIGIOUS discussion about philosophy!

Hell, it might even help me with my school assignments!! 8-)

Will do, in the near future. I wasn't sure that people in their teens were interested in philosophical and abstract talking( I know I wasn't  ), but since there is at least one, I'll do it. With the addition of COOLmac expext the new thread to reach about 20 pages long by the 3rd day... j/k

i'm still waiting for the topic for the next debate..as we can see the unbelievers outnumbered the believers side with a big ratio of 3:6 or almost half.....but i haven't yet ecountered a bad guy around here, yes there may be a lot of unbelievers but they seem to be living a good life.....Amen to that :)

OK, COOLmac, you started this thread, and I trust you to lead it...I'm open to discussing anything anyone wants to talk about.

And to Mr. Dweaver, good luck with that "Philosophical Debates" thread. Just don't forget your own advice, when it comes to religion: have an open mind. I have a feeling that all you learned about religion from these discussions will help you sometime in your life...
Peace.

well lets go to a good topic shall we gentlemen 8-)

since DW is getting a baby soon......i'll post something about the very partner we always long for.......the oe that will remained with us our lifetime.......every success we have and they are always there.......TADAHHH the women of our lives......

here's what the bible describes about a good wife/ or the perfect wife for a man.

"Who can find a virtuous woman? for her price is far above rubies. "
The heart of her husband doth safely trust in her, so that he shall have no need of spoil.
She will do him good and not evil all the days of her life.
She seeketh wool, and flax, and worketh willingly with her hands.
She is like the merchants' ships; she bringeth her food from afar.
She riseth also while it is yet night, and giveth meat to her household, and a portion to her maidens.
She considereth a field, and buyeth it: with the fruit of her hands she planteth a vineyard.
She girdeth her loins with strength, and strengtheneth her arms.
She perceiveth that her merchandise is good: her candle goeth not out by night.
She layeth her hands to the spindle, and her hands hold the distaff.
She stretcheth out her hand to the poor; yea, she reacheth forth her hands to the needy.
She is not afraid of the snow for her household: for all her household are clothed with scarlet.
She maketh herself coverings of tapestry; her clothing is silk and purple.
Her husband is known in the gates, when he sitteth among the elders of the land.
She maketh fine linen, and selleth it; and delivereth girdles unto the merchant.
Strength and honour are her clothing; and she shall rejoice in time to come.
She openeth her mouth with wisdom; and in her tongue is the law of kindness.
She looketh well to the ways of her household, and eateth not the bread of idleness.
Many daughters have done virtuously, but thou excellest them all.
Favour is deceitful, and beauty is vain: but a woman that feareth the LORD, she shall be praised.

I've never read that before- good stuff (Y)

I know that women are often mentioned in the Bible, and in critical roles, but I can't think of many mentions of just talking about them as wives. It would be found in the Old Testament, I guess, b/c the New Testament is mostly about Jesus and he never married...
