Shannon wrote:I finally managed to get my mum to believe my constant complaining about blurred vision and take me to an optometrist. Turns out I'm short sighted. I got contacts and seriously, it's amazing being able to see in such detail. I'm still getting used to them, but I find myself constantly looking at writing, etc far away just because I don't ever remember being able to see so well. It's a huge relief when I stick these things in, and apparently I'm only a "1", which means my short sightedness is mild. I feel sorry for people with like 5 or 6 because the differnence between my vision with my contacts in to when they are out is amazing.

I'm finding them hard to get used to though, its tough to focus on things close up.

Sorry if my post made no sense, but I'm real tired and am sorta typing away with no reason. I can't be bothered reading over it.

I do suggest that you really take care of your contacts.Follow all of the instructions carefully and so on.If you don't,believe it can and probably will screw your eyes up.You might not see at first, but most of these cases show after 10 years of wearing contacts.I'm not trying to scare you or anything, just giving you some tips since I got some experience with contacts.

And believe me,I'm a 6 on my right eye and 3 on other and the diiffernce is really visible.I can't even see on the six eye, only color's and blur.

What type of problems?

One of the weirdest things was after I wore my contacts for the first time (about 4 hours) I took them out and my vision was actually better than before I got them. Some days my eyesight is really good, and some days it's worse. I could easily live without contacts and I only plan on wearing them every now and then, it's just annoying when it takes my eyes a while to adjust to things like the menu's behind resturant counters, street name signs, etc.

I don't think I've ever seen any Filipinos that look anything like Trent Reznor.
a unique look, I guess, once you get there.

I'm talking only about the facial hair though, not the entire Reznor look.

Im home, away from school :D but now I am away from the girl :( I have to admit, I really didn't expect us to get through over 6 months of living together but we did it and now we are a year into the relationship. (Y)

Well your eyes can go really bad if you don't wear the contacts in the right way.Like if you're now a 1,then you could drop to a 10 if you don't wear them correctly. What kind of contacts do you have anyway ? How many days do they last before you neeed to get new ones ?

That is normal what you're talking about.Usually you see worse, because you don't get enough sleep that day.But its okay.We all have those days.

Sun May 27, 2007 4:42 am

Argh, I might stop wearing them then. I have contacts that last a month before I get a new pair. What do you mean by don't wear them correctly?

Sun May 27, 2007 11:23 am

Jeez Pera, stop worrying him. :shake:

Shannon, I've had contacts for 3+ years now, and the only problems I have is if I leave them in too long and they dry out. All that happens is they feel dry and irrated and then I take them out and they're fine the next day. I have monthly ones too. It takes time to get used to them, but once you do, you'll never want to go back to anything else unless you get surgery. I don't really know what he means by not wearing them correctly, you can't really screw up. The only thing you might do is put them in inside out, but you'll notice right away cause it doesn't feel right, it kinda stings. Just do whatever the doctor told you to do and you'll be fine.

EDIT: Maybe he means wearing them when you shouldn't. If you're supposed to wear them all the time, then wear them all the time. Just do whatever the doctor told you to do, there's a reason he's a doctor.

Thanks, I got a bit carried away. I am a 1 (?) or whatever so it's not that bad. I just have a hard time seeing things like street name's and small writing on menus, but if I'm out for the day, I'm usually good. It's just annoyign if I'm working on the computer and go immediately down to the shop and it's tough to read stuff like that because my eyes have been focused on the computer for a while.

Out of a week, I'll probably wear them 2-3 times max, and only for a few hours each day. If I have trouble seeing the projecter clearly at my design course when I start, I will probably be wearing them during class also.

I told my doctor that and he didn't tell me anything about serious problems, just about them drying out - especially when theres air conditioning running, as you said Cable.

I jut hope my eyesight doesn't gradually get worse, I know I got this from too much computer, because with the sleeping problem I had/have, I was up all night with nothing to do for the most part of 2 years.

I read that your eyes are fully developed at 20 or so, does anyone know if you can still develop or make your short sightedness worse from close work after that age? I mean other than the natural decline in eyesight that comes with age.

Sun May 27, 2007 5:47 pm

Sorry didn't mean to scare you or anything.

Well look if you have the contacts that last for a month, then only wear them for a month.Don't over wear them,by that I mean don't wear them for 45 days if they are meant for 30. Have everything organized, find a date when you will get a new pair and stick to that date.

Always keep them clean.Don't clean them with water, use the special fluid ( I dunno whats it called in english ) and clean them with that.

Always clean your hands before putting them in or out of your eyes.

Stick to this and you'll be fine.

I know this may sound obvious, but this is what my doctor told me and I didn't have a problem from a year now, thats how long I wore them.

Yes. Those whose livelihood is to sew (manually) have been found that their decrease is much faster than the average since they have to deal with concentrating their eyes on very small things (needle holes, stitch patterns, etc.)
It's basically the same as with other body parts, you overwork it, you damage it. That's why it also needs rest sometimes.

Sun May 27, 2007 11:02 pm

I'm going to assemble a kick-ass computer for the first time myself with my brother's friend help simply for the sole purpose playing SC 2 when it is released. He told me that it will only cost around 1k too.

Mon May 28, 2007 7:19 am

I think you guys are looking for "contact lens disinfecting solution" [especial]
I usually call it "contact solution" or just "solution" in pure laziness.

Mon May 28, 2007 9:02 am

Yeah the people at the shop just call it solution. Thanks for the info shadowgriano. (Y)

This probably doesn't belong here but whatever.

Yesterday, I worked a triple fucking shift at work. I got there at 6 AM and I was ther until past 10 PM (2 hour break in that period of time) Now, I don't have ADD but I was tired and my thoughts were kind of hazy. One of my co-workers knew how bad a day I was having and she gave me an adderall tablet. JESUS FUCKING CHRIST, it was amazing. I wasn't tired anymore, mundane tasks became exciting, I was happy for no reason. It was just awesome. It kind of made me act weird though; I became extremely meticulous in my work. I talked to people I had never really noticed before. By the way, I'm a busser at a restaurant. It was quite an experience.

Mon Jun 18, 2007 4:21 am

^ Uh oh. Let's hope that doesn't develop into an addiction.

Mon Jun 18, 2007 4:50 am

"Looks like I picked the wrong week to quit amphetamines."

Be careful with that stuff, man. It was only one day. Hopefully they don't have you pull many more of those all day shifts.

You can always counter the adderall with some subtractitoff.

Mon Jun 18, 2007 6:01 am

Don't worry about me, I'm not the type to develop an addiction. I took it under special circumstances. I would never take that stuff on a regular basis because I realize that I don't need it. Also, it only felt "awesome" because it was my first time using it. I felt weird when I was on it and I know it is best to avoid it or keep it a rare occurrence. Sure, work sucks, but I couldn't live with myself if I needed a pill to take me out of reality.

I am truly tard happy.

Got a fat paycheck since I worked Saturday last week, just played 9 with my dad. Got a birdie to go along with 4 straight Pars. Pretty good for my 2nd time out this year (the first time there was still snow on the ground). On the way home we had a little rain followed by a double rainbow, and my girl should be pulling into my driveway in about an hour. :D

Oh and I leave on Wednesday for a 2 and a half week vacation to Hawaii.

Doesn't get much better than this. :)

Things are looking good for me right now. I finally got some new shoes that I love. I went to Footlocker a couple weeks ago and checked out the latest Wade's, but I'm not a big fan of them. They were the best in the shop and I think around $240 so I was gonna go ahead and get them, but I decided to wait. When I got home, I went on the Eastbay site and was pretty suprised by the prices. For $20 more than the Wades would of cost me, I got:

And two pairs of dazzle shorts. They arrived today, and I couldn't be happier. From now on, any shoes I'm buying will come from Eastbay.

Other than that, my knees are finally coming better. I had tendonitis in two parts of my right knee, tendonitis in one part of my left knee, shin splint in my right knee and shin splint leading to a slight fracture in my left knee. Finally I'm beginning to play with no pain, my guess is I'm about 5-6 weeks from getting back to essentially pain fre basketball.

Wed Aug 08, 2007 10:46 am

I bought a Wii, Jonny happy. :D

Wed Aug 08, 2007 10:49 am

Glad your knees are okay, man. Those are a lot injuries you had.
I had surgery on my left lateral meniscus when I was eight but that's it. You suffered from both knees, that must've sucked really bad.
