Yeah, he killed us by himself. Brazil didn't do anything, but Robinho appeared a couple times and it was over.

Hmmm... :)
Fergie signs Tevez

Carlos Tevez last night agreed to join Manchester United in a permanent deal worth more than £20million.

The move will be completed next week, subject to any challenge from West Ham, who still claim to own the registration of the player who saved them from relegation last season.

However, West Ham have no contract with Tevez and his owner, businessman Kia Joorabchian, which has left the player and his representative free to negotiate a transfer with other clubs.

The news, breaking in South America last night, means that United will take their summer buying past the £70m mark, confirming them as the biggest spenders in world football.

Tevez was once fined when playing for Brazil's Corinthians for turning up to an official press conference wearing a Manchester United shirt.

He will fly from Argentina's Copa America base here to join United's pre-season programme.

"He just cannot contain his excitement at the news," a source close to the Argentina camp confirmed. "Tevez has been concerned about his future, worried about where he may play next season and now he is joining the biggest club in the world! This is massive news."

Tevez is best friends with United's Argentine defender Gabriel Heinze and was a guest at their end-of-season title party in a London club.

Days later, Tevez scored at Old Trafford on the final day of the season to give West Ham the 1-0 win that kept them in the Premiership, but his controversial transfer has been the subject of a Premier League investigation, which was concluded on Tuesday.

United were hoping to keep the confirmation of the transfer quiet until the furore died down and the deal will not be officially declared until the middle of next week. The official transfer fee — and wages — are still to be confirmed.

United have already signed Portuguese winger Nani and Brazilian midfielder Anderson on expensive five-year contracts.

The pair join the Premier League champions from Sporting Lisbon and Porto respectively, while England midfielder Owen Hargreaves completed his move from Bayern Munich. The total cost of those deals is £50m.

United have also made Polish keeper Tomasz Kuszczak a full signing after he played last season on loan from second division West Bromwich.

With multi-million pound backing from their American investors, United have been flexing their financial muscle, but the signing of Tevez is their most ambitious.

The little striker has told friends that he is "very excited" about his future, though he has refused to confirm his next destination. Tevez has also been linked with Inter Milan and Arsenal, although West Ham had been hoping to keep him.

Tevez told Sportsmail in an exclusive interview last season: "If I can play at West Ham in such a difficult position, then it's easier to play for a bigger club, with players such as Rooney, Ronaldo or Drogba.

"I would be capable of playing at any English team, because the English game is no longer a problem for me." He then went on to save West Ham, following his controversial "loan" move from Corinthians, a club he joined in a South American transfer record of $22m.

As well as being fined for turning up in an official press conference wearing a United shirt, he was also punished for turning up for a game in Bermuda shorts — and for fighting with team-mates.

Then the goals started and he was branded a hero. The fans copied his braided hair cut, followed his celebration dance craze and bought the replica shirts.

It was claimed that 4,000 were sold at every home game. He was elected captain by his team-mates and he would lead out his team with his baby daughter, Florencia, in his arms, producing a dummy from his sock when he scored a goal.

Then, when a website opened in his name, it broke the previous record held by Ronaldinho by 4,000 hits.

Tevez received 16,000 hits and the local newspapers called it "the birth of Tevezmania". It sounds like a marketing dream for Manchester United.

West Ham last night confirmed the free transfer signing of former England goalkeeper Richard Wright, who left Everton at the end of last season.

If true then not bad at all.

Uh oh. Chelsea is going to be in trouble again next year...

Mon Jul 09, 2007 7:38 am

OKay, I shall take what I said about Chelsea being a lot of money whores back.

Mon Jul 16, 2007 1:54 pm

Brazil won 3-0 in the final against Argentina. I never saw that one coming (Y) Also, Chile is in the semis of the U-20 World Cup 8-)

Mon Jul 16, 2007 4:23 pm

That game was a joke. All four goals in extras. I wonder what the record for most goals in extra time is?

Tue Jul 17, 2007 7:15 am

A joke? What the hell? Nigeria had to open up because they were losing and Chile took advantage of it.

Fri Jul 20, 2007 12:31 pm

Damn, lost 0-3 against Argentina. I'm not going to blame the ref, everyone has to watch the game and get their own conclusions.
This is the difference between the big, winning countries, and the rest of us. They know and do what you have to do to win. They dive, they flop, they move the ball around, you name it. They controlled the game and our players couldn't keep their cool and trying to tie Argentina with 10 players is hard as hell. Anyway, I'm still proud of them, because they gave all they could until the last minute. And I'm feeling lonely as fuck here, does anybody watch soccer? :?

Mon Jul 23, 2007 3:20 am

because they gave all they could until the last minute.

And all they could after the game ended. WTF is all that crap about bombing our embassy?

1-0 Chile at the half. Nice cross and shot, but Austria's set piece defense is horrible.

I Watched that Beckham guy fall on the ground and pretend like a car ran over him. Chelsea should've put in a better effort i their shots and it would've been something 3-0 instead of 1-0. Sheva got robbed on that offside call when he passed it to Drogba; the offside was like 30 secs ago, but he didn't call it, instead he calls some shitty offside where its obvios Drogba is in front of the last defender.

Mon Jul 23, 2007 7:24 am

Yeah, they had to defend themselves.

WTF is all that crap about bombing our embassy?

Hey, there are stupid fucks everywhere. It's not like every chilean thinks like that.

Agree, they're tall as hell but Chile won almost every time. Anyway, 3rd place is good, I guess. Argentina just won 2-1. The goals were great.

Well, that's true. Same as the Yi situation.

Argentina just won 2-1. The goals were great.

Yeah, especially the Czech one. Turnaround, off-balance shot...

Argentina continued their normal dose of flopping :shake: . The substitute guy looked like he was going to die and sprung up as soon as he saw the yellow.

Fri Aug 17, 2007 4:26 pm

C'mon. Don't anybody wanna talk soccer? EPL started, and Man Utd is not looking good with two draws and a injured Rooney. Chelsea going 2-0 for six, and so is Man City and Everton.

Sun Aug 19, 2007 4:04 am

Hmm... Go LA Galaxy...Go Beckham...

Mon Aug 20, 2007 5:58 pm

Man Utd loses! :D At this rate, they will find it tough to win it all again. However, this EPL season might be really close. I don't think the trend of one or two teams building a huge lead is going to happen this season but you never know.

Arsenal is doing well, surprising me a little bit but I'm happy with their performance. This week's game against Man City will be interesting.

Liverpool and Chelsea drew 1-1. My mate wasn't happy about that. (He supports Liverpool and Gerrard)

Mon Aug 27, 2007 12:56 pm

Its a veeeery long season Sitty my man. :)

Anyways, we won today...which is nice. Was a screamer from Nani at that. Hopefully this is the beginning of a string of great results.

Mon Aug 27, 2007 3:25 pm

dada, i know its a very looong season but if they kept on losing/drawing... they would have foudn themselves in a tough position... especially if the top few teams create a huge gap in between them...

Go Arsenal... beat Man City 1-0 :D

And go Dukes... scoring his first goal for newcastle against his former club!

Mon Aug 27, 2007 4:21 pm

Every team goes through a rough patch so I'm not too worried. Utd are missing alot of key players (Ronaldo, Rooney, Anderson, Neville, Saha, Ole) and as a result we have to depend on our less preferred players (brown, silvestre) while playing Tevez alone up front when thats not his best suited role. We have pretty much nothing on the bench but things will get better and the points will come. Wee beat Tottenham today which is great as we coulda easily dropped 3 pts. Saha and Anderson should be back next week so things are on the upward swing. Also Ronaldo only has 1 match left to serve on his suspension so he should be ready and blazing to go are sitting out these 3 matches. Liverpool will drop points for sure I feel and Chelsea's African players will have to report for national duties so the chances of them dropping pts during that period is good as the likes of Drogba and Essien are vitat to their success.

No worries from my end. We'll get through. :P

Mon Aug 27, 2007 4:28 pm

What was Ronaldo suspended for?

I also have to voice my opinion that Paul Robinson sucks, and England need a new keeper. (I watched the friendly vs Germany lol) But i suppose they dont really have anyone else right?

Mon Aug 27, 2007 4:35 pm

Ronaldo was suspended for a headbutt or so they claim. There was some altercation with another player trying to defend him on a dead ball situation and they got into it . The ref claims he saw Ronaldo try to headbutt the guy and showed him red (3 match ban). Its rubbish to me, to this day I havent seen the headbutt and even if he swung his head in the guys direction these refs need to start protecting a players of his caliber who defenders kick/run/stomp/spit/chop on more often than average. I know it seems preferential but he's a special player and its no secret defenders arent giving him, especially, the red carpet treatment.

Tue Aug 28, 2007 5:29 am

Why do you think he deserves the "red carpet treatment"? I don't think any player should get preferental treatment, even guys like Zidane. Maybe Beckham, only because all the sellout crowds would be asking for a refund if he doesn't attend. If great players start getting protection from the refs, the great players become greater, and the rest will suffer.

And yes, Ronaldo is so good a player that if the defenders don't "kick/run/stomp/spit/chop" him, he'll dribble past everyone.

Wed Aug 29, 2007 12:25 am

Your mistaken if you believe I'm saying he deserves the red carpet treatment. To sum it up, you just cant allow defenders to get away with the kinds of tackles he gets every match. If somebody tackles him rough, give them a card even if you just gave it to another player seconds ago. Its no secret that teams play him excessively rough but referees need to clamp down and not shy away from punishing them because it may seem excessive. Its only a matter of time before he breaks his legs or suffers some other long term injury. Thats why so many players in football today lean towards diving because they have to force the referee to blow their whistle or otherwise they wont get the consistent call.

On a side note, Manchester United legend Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has retired today. Sad day but I wish him the best for the future. He will be assuming a coaching role at the club.

dada, wats beckham mania like over where you are? Is it finally dying down?

Thu Aug 30, 2007 12:32 pm

Where I am isnt really a big football town but it seems people are still very much interested in Mr. Beckham. I personally catch the odd game when there isnt anything else on but thats how its always been for me though.

Mon Sep 03, 2007 11:19 am

Tough break for Becks... he got injured in a game last week. Sucks for him.

And Arsenal won 3-1 against portsmouth!
