For the cash part you have to select cash injection the editor I believe. Not sure about the ratings.

Time for a Stockport update!

Well another season has passed since the last update and this time we competed in League One.

We had the same team as last time except:

Out
- Ricky Lambert
- Filip Daems

In
- Callum Lloyd
- Martin Bergvold
- Shane Rose
- Giles Barnes

Callum Lloyd was with us for all of the season. He was a pretty good player, but nothing special. He cost us 120k.

Martin Bergvold was with us all last season also. His is a funny story actually. When July 1 2009 hit (open of transfer window), i read a team news that says "Stockport sign Martin Bergvold". I'm like WTF! I don't remember agreeing to that! Turns out i did agree to that, but i just forgot about it. He cost us nothing anyway because he came over on free transfer. I probably went searching for expiring contracts, so him as a decent player, offered him a contract and moved on. What makes the story even better though is that he turned out to be one of my best players. He finished the season with a 7.08 rating.

Shane Rose and Giles Barnes joined us when the transfer window opened again Jan 1st 2010. We went on a search for a good finishing striker with good pace, so when we found rose i pretty much was like "heck yes!", but i got a little overjoyed and overpaid for him. The transfer fee was 1.8M, giving Rose the label of my highest ever fee spent on a player. However with Dong Fangzhuo (spell check) in town, Rose didn't get much of a chance to strut his stuff. He did however show good potential, kicking a few goals in the chances that he did get. Shane Rose appeared in 16 matches, becoming man of the match once, kicking 6 goals, 3 assists, and a fantastic 7.19 rating.

Dong Fangzhuo had good timing by publicly stating he wanted to move to a bigger club. It worked for me because i wanted to give Shane Rose Dong's role, and also Dong's value was quite high (1.4M) for whatever reason. So i promised him that he would be sold at the end of the season. I turned down a few 1.5M offers etc. so that i could sell him at the end of the season. I figure his value will shoot up if i don't get relegated.

The first thing Giles Barnes did in his first game was injure himself. When he got back his ratings were depleted a bit, but when they improved up again, he was really good. And now he is fixed as a starter in center midfield. Barnes is a player we've been trying to acquire for about 3 years and we're estatic to finally get him. We had offered teams deals worth 250 - 450k for him over the years, but we wereconstantly rejected. We bought him off Q.P.R for 10k.

Stockport ended up finishing 10th or so in League One at the end of the season. (Y) We were predicted as relegation battlers.

Mehmet track
His early season injury really hampered this season's campaign, and he performed quite average for most of the season. However he came back strong towards the end of the season coming back to true Mehmet form. He didn't have the season he had last season, but he managed to get his average rating up above season 7 and 7.07 by the end of the season, where as it used to be around 6.7 mid-season. Despite not living up to expectations, Mehmet was still a key player.

Stockport's star of 2009/10 was a suprising one, but a deserved one. Defender Tommy Spurr dominated both sides with a 7.16 rating, 18 goals, 4 assists, 6 Man-of-the-match's in 44 matches. Other notable players were Martin Bergvold, Mehmet, Harpal Singh, Rob Clare, and Shane Rose was a key player in the 16 games he played.

Our finances are also looking very nice.

Now, that's the past. Here's the present.

It's currently July 2nd 2010. And we just sold Dong Fangzhuo just then. We didn't get what we wanted for him though. We were expecting 1.5M at the least, but the most we could get for him was 950k. On the bright side, i got 20% of his next sale and 950 is overpaying for him anyway. So i'm not too fussed, as i get to move on.

Now, it's a very exciting time for Stockport at the moment because of the player we just signed. 24 year old Jos[insert e with thingy on top] Luis Ortiz is a Bolivian striker who has played for a Serie A team already. His scoring attributes are really something special, but is a bit weak mentally and not the most athletic player in the world. However, he has the high quality attributes where it counts for a striker and will surely dominate.

He told the fans he will teach them 'real' football. And the fans have already stated their excitement to see him in action.

On top of that, signing him involved NO fee as his contract was expiring. And for whatever reason he only wanted 700k a week! I have him locked down for the next 5 years on this contract, even though i would happily offer him a contract double (and even double that again) what he is earning.

Here is a screenshot of his attributes: click

On the downside (if there even is one), i now have Rose, Mehmet and Ortiz who are all key strikers. So i'm not quite sure what to do about that. I don't want to trade any of them.

Rose isn't going anywhere, because i paid 1.8 for him and i want to see it out. Ortiz looks too good for League One, and i just got him, as if i'd trade him. Mehmet is the team's heart and sole, he's not going anywhere.

However if i were held at gunpoint and told to trade one of my strikers, Mehmet would probably first priority. Mainly because he's unhappy, and has the most value. I could probably get 2M for him and spend that signing an even better player. (Hmm, that actually sounds like a good idea. Lol, i never thought of that realisticly. Hmmm)

Anyway, firstly i want to try and start them all together. If it doesn't work out then i'll have to trade one of them.

Now, THIS is where i need help from you guys. I've had the same formation for 5 years with this team, so i know nothing about what works and what doesn't. Right now i'm thinking Rose, Ortiz as strikers, Mehmet as an attacking midfielder, and have 3 midfielders (maybe one center defensive midfielder?) What you reckon?

P.s. Ortiz is yet to play a game with us, since we've had him for only 2 days. i'll let you know how things go!

Mon Aug 21, 2006 1:39 pm

@ Nick - You had a solid season by the sounds of it, hopefully you can build on that this coming season.

What was the formation that you were previously trying? Something like Dada's could work since he effectively has 3 strikers in it (Y)

Does anyone know where I can get the updated roster thingy for this game?

I was writing up a transfer plan for next season, so I figured I'd post it here. Just something I use to keep organised and not forget players...

Main Squad Next Year:

GK: Buffon / Moreira / Tim Krul
DC: Caneira
DC: Leonardelli
DC: Ze Castro
WBR: Rafinha / Gakpe
WBL: Mathieu / Zambrotta
DMC: Emerson / Aquino
MC: Rocha / Viana
AMC: Kalou / Coimbra
AMC: Ben Arfa / Martin / Raul
FC: Ibrahimovic / Genro / Pastorello

- Moreira wants out, left with two keepers.
- Only three main defenders with Zokora gone
- Emerson is getting old (34) may retire, Aquino not ready
- Viana wants out, only one central midfielder
- Coimbra wants out, only one right footed AMC
- Raul wants out, getting old, Arfa/Martin great combo
- Genro doesn't score, Pastorello not ready. Seriously need a FC

Possible Scenario:
Players Out:
Raul
Zokora (end of loan)
Coimbra
Genro
Moreira
Viana
Eboue (to Siena for 1.7 million)
Marica (has scored 35 goals for Strasbourg, one to keep maybe)

Players In:
DC
DMC
MC
AMR
FC

Youth Players Who Could Contribute:

Vicente Munoz Gonzalez - AMRC (possible third back-up to Kalou/New Signing)
Juan Carlos Bayon - SC (possible fourth back-up to Ibrahimovic/New Signing/Pastorello)
Bart Gregoire - GK (possible third back-up to Buffon/Krul)
Sergio Cordero - DMC (possible third back-up to Emerson/Aquino)
Raul Sanchez Sanchez - DR (probably one season away from being a back-up DR)

Transfer Targets (57 million budget currently)

DC: Alexandre Barthe (from Monaco, 8-12 million)
DC: Fabio Ripamonti (from Mallora, 7-10 million)
DC: Hedwiges Maduro (from Strasbourg, 5-8 million)

MC: Owen Garvan (from Celtic, 5-6 million)

AMR: Kwabena Agouda (from Sevilla, 5-7 million)

SC: Roger (from Manchester United, 9-14 million)
SC: Ricardo Oliveira (from Betis, 8-12 million)
SC: Carmine De Rosa (from Monaco, 8-12 million)
SC: Raffaele Salvi (from Palermo, 9-14 million)
SC: Stefano Longhi (from Strasbourg, 8-10 million)
SC: David (from Sampdoria, 8-10 million)
SC: Fernando Cavenaghi (from Spartak Moscow, 8-10 million)
SC: Vagner Love (from CSKA Moscow, 8-10 million)
SC: Livio D'Amires (from Catania, 6-8 million)
SC: Adrian Campos (from Betis, loan deal)
SC: Ernesto Farias (from River Plate, 6-8 million)

Transfer target rankings:

1: Owen Garvan
2: Alexandre Barthe
3: Ernesto Farias
4: Kwabena Agouda
5: Abel Enrique Aguillar
6: Renato
7: Jay Spearing
8: Vagner Love
9: Mattia Longoni
10: David

If I get my top 5 I'm looking at about 28-30 million in transfers, but it'd be worth it. Ernesto Farinas is 30, but has 20 for pace/19 for acceleration and his attributes are absolutely loaded everywhere else. Kwabena Agouda is fast as hell aswell, and Owen Garvan is just a freak. No idea where he came from but I'm definitely buying him.

This game is so addictive...

Players Out:
Fernando Genro | 10 million to Deportivo
Emmanuel Eboue | 1.7 million to Siena
Joao Coimbra | 3.5 million to Olympiakos

Genro for 10 million is huge for me, since he's been so useless. He was inredible in the season I took over, scoring 19 goals in 28 games but completely ruined that in 2010-2011 with 4 goals in 11 games. He is a Brazilian international, I'm sure he'll do well in Deportivo. Eboue was average and wanted to leave, Coimbra looked awesome when I signed him but his attributes just dropped like a rock during the year. He had 3 goals in 11 games, which for an AMC is pretty good but only came out with a 6.82 average.

Players In:
Nuri Sahin | 15 million from Dortmund
Fabio Ripamonti | 8 million from Mallorca
Owen Garvan | 6.2 million from Celtic
Gustavo | 3.2 million from Atletico Mineiro

With Emerson turning 35 and being the best midfielder in the Serie A I really needed someone top class to replace him, and that's what I've got with Nuri Sahin. He's only like 23, has fantastic attributes in both attack and defense. I'm really expecting alot from him. Ripamonti will come in handy since I have no back-up defenders. He's only 20 so he has plenty of time to force his way into the squad, I could see him knocking off Caneira (he on the bench for Serie A team of the year) since he's 32. Garvan is an interesting one, he's only 23 and has 7 caps for Ireland. His performances for Celtic have been average at best, but attribute wise he looks superb. With the way Rocha (who is very very similar attribute wise) slotted into my tactic I can definitely see Garvan being a success. Gustavo has 20 for pace/acceleration and looks good for the future (he's only 19).

I'm looking at some more players, namely Iker Garcia Leon from Deportivo and David Villa from Real Madrid. I'm tempted by Villa but they want 16 million for him and I'd rather spend that on someone else, it's just a matter of time before I get Garcia Leon though. He's 19 and my scouts say he has considerable talent for his age, that's always a good sign.

There we go, got him for 12.25 million. It's a bit of a risk but I don't mind taking it, between him and Gustavo one of them is bound to come good. That means so far I've taken care of every weak position apart from SC, so I'll be looking for one next.

I got alot of new 15-16 year olds in, so I bumped anyone over 17 from the Under 20's to the reserves side, where I've organised a bunch of friendly tours for that team since they don't play in a league. They'll be touring Australia, Mexico, Brazil, Holland, England, Belgium and having a cup tournament with some Under 20 teams.

I have a couple of signing lined up, Fernando Cavenaghi really wants to play with us and a guy called Oscar Marin, 18 year old Spanish striker who has eerily similar attributes to Fernando Torres at the same age (as I remember from earlier CM's).

Finally agreed a fee, it's like 10 million + but I think he'll be worth it. I'm also after the 7 million Cavenaghi since their chairman got pissed at me for declaring an interest, so I'll be signing him out of spite. Roma have come in with a HUGE offer for Hatem Ben Arfa, 38 million. I've negotiated it to try and include this young defender they have who looks great, otherwise they can piss off.

Holy fuck, they came back with 38 million + the defender. The strange thing is, Ben Arfa had 6 goals and 11 assists in 19 games so he didn't exactly set the World on fire. Either way, he's out the door. Malaury Martin is just as good, plus I can now sign a great great replacement. I get the feeling they're signing him to replace Antonio Cassano, who plays the same position and is leaving the team soon. Another reason I love this game.

Cavenaghi signs for 7.2 million, will do a great job as the primary back-up to Ibrahimovic. Marin will get his chance, just not 100% ready to be the first guy off the bench just yet. The Ben Arfa transfer just went through, I've got 84 million and need to find a replacement. Shouldn't be too hard, there's alot of World Class guys left...

Raffaele Palladino - Lecce
Proven Serie A star, was voted onto the Team Of The Year and scored 18 goals last season. Not overly quick though.

Valeri Bojinov - Chelsea
Looks fantastic and fits exactly what I'm looking for, but I don't want to spend the entire 38 million on one guy.

Arjen Robben - Chelsea
He's 27 years old but still looks great, probably my #1 candidate at the moment.

Stewart Downing - Middlesbrough
An outside chance but obviously has alot of ability. May not be as good behind the striker though.

Evandro Roncatto - Zaragoza
Now a Spanish international, I'm tempted by him but at the moment he'd rank just above Downing.

Ryan Babel - Real Sociedad
My old favourite, and a definite chance. I'll have a look at the others but he's definitely a viable option.

Tue Aug 22, 2006 11:55 am

Man thats an awesome offer you got for that transfer.

I would deffinately look into Babel, will he be happy playing second fiddle to Zlatan though?

Tue Aug 22, 2006 1:56 pm

Nah he'd be fine, because he'd be starting in the place of Hatem Ben Arfa...

Code:
          AML          AMR
                 SC

Ben Arfa was the AML, so I just need a guy to play there. I could use Malaury Martin technically but as good as he is I'm not 100% convined he could make a huge impact all season. Bojinov will cost me 29 million, they want 35 for Robben.

Edit:

My hunt for an AML has taken an interesting turn. In the off-season I signed this 15 year old guy called Sergio Ranieri (he is an AML), despite the last name he's actually French. He's 16 now and has been playing in the reserves tour around the World. He didn't play in the first few matches, but against San Luis (Mexico) and South Melbourne (Australia) he has a total of 7 goals

I decided to have a friendly against Strasbourg. Since I left them I've been trying to organise one but they kept rejecting it, so finally we got them. I rested Rafinha, Ibrahimovic, Kalou, Rocha, Ze Castro and Emerson and put some of the newer guys in there...

Juventus 3
Oscar Marin 5, Gustavo 11, Malaury Martin 50

Strasbourg 1
Stefano Longhi 85

Longhi is a youth player I brought to the club when he was 16, bastard. I was happy though, Gustavo is the 19 year old Brazilian I signed.... Martin is possibly Ben Arfa's replacement and Marin cost me 15 million, he was man of the match with a goal and 2 assists. Nuri Sahin also had an 8 rating which was nice.

Wed Aug 23, 2006 1:11 pm

Ah ok, Robben would be nice, but he is getting older.

Well I couldn't really get into the Ajax game so I updated my game with the latest rosters etc.

Ive decided to use Real Madrid and take them back to their former glory (hopefully) to get my reputation up then get a position with a National team maybe and take on some other club challenges. I also made myself a Brazilian manager so that might help me get the Brazil job at some stage.

I was looking with the editor to see how much money I get with Real and it said only 950k which I thought would be quite interesting. However I realised that was before I installed the update, so now I have 29m to start the season. Ive finished my friendly schedule, but with 30 days before the start of the season I might try organise some more.

Here is the current Squad with their Contracts and Values.

Image

Here is the starting squad that im playing with Currently, Baptista usually plays the AMC, but is out for about a month.

Image

Here are my transfers in and out:

Image

Image

I got Sahin on a youth contract so im hoping he will want to stay on with the club once it runs out, and also hope another club won't poach him off me.

EDIT: Currently Sahin is playing in the Castilla since he is still pretty raw, but if Gravsen gets sold ill think about moving Sahin up.

I decided to get Iraola, origionally I was just getting him scouted and thought I would delcare my interest, he announced that he was flattered and would love to play for Real, so I decided to sign him as he sounds like hes a great player for the future.

Salagdo was sold, basically since I need some more cash, and he wouldn't find much time with Iraola coming in.
I sold Alvaro to make room for Lopez as the back up goalie in the first team.

Im currently trying to sell Gravsen to get some more cash, and am looking at buying another AMR/ST to play where Raul is so Raul can move to the middle, basically I just need more depth there since Ronaldo or Van Nistlerooy don't seem to preform that well in the AM positions.

Ive started looking at a few players.

I was going to go with Solomon Kalou, but with the update he is primarily a Striker.

Here are a few players im looking at:
Mauro Esposito, AMRLC/FC, 26 years old. (11-12m)
Edu, AMRC/FC, 26 years old (10-11m)
Robben, AMRL, 21 Years old (50-52m!!)
Javier Saviola, AMR/FC 23 Years old (12-13m)
Nihat, AMR/FC, 25 Years old (12-13m)
Leo Messi, AMRLC, 18 Years old (29-30m)
Carlos Tevez, FC, 21 years old (14-15m)

Thats only some that ive been looking at.

Any suggestions would be great.

Wed Aug 23, 2006 8:21 pm

Have a look at Mark Gonzalez from Liverpool. He might cost like 21 million, but hes a great crosser, and very quick.. hes an AM L i think..

I just started a game with Manchester United, just straight off, does anyone know of anyone i could bring in to improve the team? At the moment i want the above Gonzalez, and Man U's former golden boy David Beckham..

Wed Aug 23, 2006 11:03 pm

Ah ok, well I went with Chevanton as another forward, and he has been magic in his two games, we may see him becoming the first choice striker soon.

IMO you deffinately need to strengthen the Mid Field, if you want a good DMC go for De Rossi (Y)

Wed Aug 23, 2006 11:14 pm

Image

Is it just me or does anyone else find it ironic that a guy named Ferreira who plays for P. Ferreira would be the one to score on me?

Image

Yeah.... this game totally sucked. I think I had like literally my entire starting line save for Deco, Eto'o, and Me go on International Duty. It was a chance to test out some of my bench and B and C teamers... and truely they need help.

Try Patrick Vieira.

Anyway heres how my first season at Inter ended.

Image

I have made some very good signings/sales and such so I am excited about the new season coming up. When the summer window closes I will make a big update. I have made a decent investment into my youth system so the future looks bright as many guys in the first team are aging.

Decent players I got so far...

Julio Baptista
Patrice Evra
Moritz Volz
Sergio Aguero

I'm working on a few more but since they havent put pen to paper yet I wont list them until later.

Thu Aug 24, 2006 3:30 am

so you have one player one a red, but you have none listed at the team stats... is that because that guy got 2 yellows, and therefore it doesnt warrent a red under team stats? or what.

Thu Aug 24, 2006 5:34 am

For some reason it didnt list all the games so thats probably why its incomplete. I played around 60 or so total matches. Ah well.

When you touch 2010 and upwards it seems its best to stick with one club. The transfer prices of some players are ridiculous. I have a guy on my squad worth 5 mil and a club bought him for 20. the guy is like 30. Mascheranos club is asking for around 40 mil right now so I cant think of going out to get him. Thank god I got some guys while they were young.

Stole Cardenas from Barca too. His stats look very good and in a year or so I might bring hi m up. He has ratings for the first team now but I have some old guys I'm gonna give a run for just one more year.

Garh, I haven't played FM since it melted my laptop.

Sun Aug 27, 2006 10:01 am

I haven't played this game in ages too and reading about your games makes me want to play but I know if i start again I'll get addicted again which I'm trying so hard not to

Sun Aug 27, 2006 10:09 am

Whats wrong with being addicted? *sniffle sniffle*

Sun Sep 03, 2006 8:25 am

So I am about to begin my 2010/2011 season and a couple signings I am excited about are Freddy Guarin and Rafinha (again but this is later in hi career so we will see wasup).

The last 2 preseason games are with an American East and West Allstar team which I just arranged match with for a tour. This will basically let me see where we are and also its pretty cool setting up tours of far away countried. :P

Anyways I'll post a better update later and tell you how everything works out. So far I am in the middle of the first match against the East and I am leading at halftime 8-0. What fun!

edit: won 1st match 11-0

Sun Sep 03, 2006 11:43 am

with the coming of Madden 07 and the revival of PES5 for me... probably gonna be playing FM a lot less.... though wish Jae would find a way to work it out with his Bro(?) and get his FM dynasty up again

Sun Sep 03, 2006 3:29 pm

Wowza, Guarin has been better than advertised for me. This guy is banging it in from distance as though its a shot from 2 meters out. I cant tell you how happy I am with his form since joining Inter. The guy has played 5 games and has 6 goals and two assists (3 from free kicks I believe).

Another guy who has thrived in the first team is Cardenas. Luckily Baptista and other got injured so he has seen quite a few minutes on pitch and has not disappointed.

Wed Sep 06, 2006 6:25 pm

Ok, so i was thinking about building a squad around Ronaldinho.. Just wondering if you guys could give me some expert opinions as to which formation and which players would fit him best.?

Wed Sep 06, 2006 7:28 pm

I'd play a 3-1-3-1-2, like this...

Image

The theory being this...

Defenders - Solid, no frills and since you're playing three you don't want them getting forward.

Defensive Mid - Someone like a Makelele or Essien, ultra solid to protect the back three.

Central Mid - No one too attacking, someone stable like Owen Hargreaves who can attack but also defend.

MR/ML - More attacking players and gives you a bit of width, Ronaldinho can't do everything but with 2 midfielders going down the wings it gives him alot of space.

Ronaldinho - In behind the front 2, Long Shots, Creative Freedom, Attacking, Free Role, Playmaker, Through Balls etc.

Strikers - I'd go with someone small and pacy and someone fairly tall and good in the air, you don't want a guy who likes to run with the ball alot (someone like Adriano, Henry etc) because it'll limit Ronaldinho's opportunities to set them up.

Basically you don't want your entire team to be all-out attack if you want it to revolve around Ronaldinho. Give him all of the attacking and creative freedom you can, but make sure the rest of the team is solid so that you can afford to take the risk. As far as players, I'd guess it depends on what you can afford.

DC: Gonzalo, Luis Amaranto Perea, Miguel, Marco Antonio Caneira
DMC: Gennaro Ivan Gattuso, Pablo Orbaiz, David Albelda, Javier Mascherano
MR: Juninho Pernambucano, Dejan Stankovic, Maxi Rodriguez, Maniche
ML: Antonio Lopez, Maxwell, Bastian Schweinsteiger, Alex, Julio Arca
MC: Andrea Pirlo, Xabi Alonso, Anatoliy Tymoschuk, Assuncao
SC: Obafemi Martins,Yakubu, Zlatan Ibrahimovic, Luca Toni, Miroslav Klose, Jermain Defoe
