Yeah it's a laughably tiny capacity by today's standards but you could probably get one album's worth of music on there, ripped at a lower quality. That wouldn't be bad if you just wanted some music to listen to while you were out running/exercising, half an hour to an hour's worth of songs and battery life may be all you need for that.

Re: Dear LiveJournal,

well on my 64mb i used to get about 20-25 songs at 80kbps and it worked for me because i like ot listen to the same songs over and over until i get tired of them. i don't like spending time looking for songs or hitting skip when it gets to one i dont wanna hear.

I know what you mean. There's definitely still a use for those old mp3 players with that in mind, though you could do the same thing with playlists on an iPod.

Yeah I did that for a while with my iPod Shuffle (512MB). I'd just load about 5-10 albums on it, then replace them after awhile. After some time, though, I think after iTunes 7 cane out, my old computer barely ran iTunes. I just put like half my library on it at 56kbps, but it eventually was too much hassle, and my sister, who at the time owned three CDs, wanted an iPod. That's when I got the nano. My big music rotation thingy ended up to be really annoying in te last few months before the iPhone.

I just bought different players over time and now I use them for different selections. Got a 4gb Sansa Clip with rockbox installed which is tiny, Sony Walkman S-something 8gb which has speakers(one speaker ever since I dropped it 20 times) which is about the size of some small cellphones, and a Cowon D3 32gb with an expandable mini-sdcard slot that uses android.

I like my Creative Zen X-Fi 2, but the battery is getting weaker and weaker. I do use it for about an hour every weekday in my car to go to work and it barely lasts two weeks now, so I guess those gizmos are just not meant for that kind of 'intensive' use, the obsolesence just kicks in rapidly in this case.

All I have is a cd player that plays MP3 cds, along with a cigarette lighter adapter and tape deck adapter.

The portability and convenience of mp3 players is well worth the price. I have mine on me at all times pretty much. I can listen to any song I want and some other things anywhere.

But yeah. I need to get my shit together. I've let myself go pretty bad I really need to get a job. Times are good though

I need a job as well. It's been almost two months and I think I'm getting far too used to this lifestyle for my liking. Currently housesitting a 5 minute walk away from one of the biggest shopping centres in the southern hemisphere as well, so that doesn't help either.

What kind of work are you looking for?

Re: Dear LiveJournal,

Moving into my dorm at college tomorrow.

A new phase begins.

If that question was meant for me, here's my response:

I'm a trade qualified print machinist. The worst thing is, the type of printing I trained in (sheet fed offset) is kind of a dying form and everything is going digital. I've been applying for pretty much any kind of printing jobs that are going around, but they're all looking for experienced people in the fields I'm not experienced in, so I'm not having a lot of luck at the moment. When I signed up for a trade with a skill shortage, I thought the jobs would be everywhere, but they're ridiculously hard to find (atleast in Brisbane). Might have to get a part time job in the meantime. I have enough money to be comfortable for the next few months, but I want to do something good with it and not just spend it on living.

I know the feeling. There weren't a lot of helpdesk jobs going here when I was out of work a few years back and none of the local computer repair businesses were hiring either, which is why I ended up going into business for myself. That sucks though, hope something comes along soon.

How do you keep optical audio cables in their sockets? They don't plug in like regular cables, so mine keeps falling out every time I let go of it. Not out of the socket, but enough to cut off the sound.

have it modified by a blacksmith

It should snap in. the plug fits the chord perfectly, make sure it's lined up. Some need an extra push when it's their first time. :P

Dumb question, but have you taken the little plastic piece off the end of the cable?

Re: Dear LiveJournal,

Of course.

Re: Dear LiveJournal,

Someone I went to school with just had a kid, and another is due to give birth in a few weeks. I feel old. :(

I know the feeling.

Re: Dear LiveJournal,

Shit, my peers were having kids while I was in school. Now they have whole starting lineups. No wonder we don't kick it like we used to.

Re: Dear LiveJournal,

Only a couple of girls in my year had kids while were still in school, though I heard through the grapevine of a couple of others that had abortions (which may or may not have been true).
