I've actually not changed a lot in what I do. I've just added stuff.

No, I lie. I used to be out till like 3 a.m. and then eat a burger and fries right before bed. I've cut out beer and "junk food" from my diet. I didn't really eat a lot of fast food, so my "junk food" was just eating at odd hours of the a.m.

I cut that out, forced myself to go to bed no later than 1 a.m., woke up at 5.30, was at the gym from 7 a.m. till 9.30'ish. I lifted weights for an hour, swam for an hour and was in the sauna for half an hour. I ate 6 times a day. By six times I don't mean meals, I woke up, had cereal (whole grain), came back, had an apple...bread in the afternoon, a biscuit or something before work, after work just my normal dinner food (can't tell mom, no, I won't eat that, she'd kick me out) and if I felt like it...a little bit of fruit before bed. Repeat that for 3 months with Saturday's and Sunday's off.

From sitting on your fatass to working out in the gym, you'll see progress.

Now I've cut out the swimming on Mon, Wed and Friday. Now I've replaced that one hour of swimming with one hour of stairmaster/treadmill and crosstrainer.

Still losing weight in rapid tempo and look broader than ever. Happy to share more guys. :D

Brave man. I dunno if I can cut out my happy hours activities, its the only real fun my time (or lack thereof) affords me these days.

Your 6 meals a day is kinda like my polar opposite, though, lol. I was eating two small meals of pasta, 1 meat dish, cereal or muffin, a salad at some point during the day, and a protein shake. Any time I went to rutgers to see friends (translation - party) I'd grab a fat sandwich and that was my idea of cheating the diet.

Not to change up your routine or anything, but did you ever try riding outdoors? I hated the treadmill, riding an actual bike removed the monotony of running/stairstepping/riding in place. Plus your calves get jacked pretty quickly.

My calves aren't much of a problem, it's my upper body I'm focussing on primarily. I used to constantly wear Caterpillar steel toe boots a few years back, those were like weights and me walking from home to school basically gave me legs of steel. I've got huge calves and then my upperbody (my arms, very frustrating) look like twigs.

The outdoor thing I've thought about it, but I'm okay with how I am. I did a week of HIIT on the football field right behind my house, no doubt I felt awesome after the workout (well, more dead than anything, but that high that you get, unbeatable), but just...the whole open air thing didn't work for me. I don't really like being watched while I do my thing and you see a nut running laps around a field in pretty cold weather at 6 a.m. and you start staring too.

So yeah, my cross trainer and running to nowhere are not so bad with music in my ears and tv to watch.

I had the same problem. Most of my mass is in my legs, but nowadays, I managed to get my upper body proportional. I'm still working on getting my mass up to 195, and it's tough. I just have to eat more, really.

 There was a soccer field near where I used to live, and I tried doing HIIT for a couple of weeks. It gave me amazing results, but the problem was that cars would pass by that road, neighbours would walk their dogs, and I was surrounded by houses. I felt absolutely retarded sprinting back and forth on the grass, so I had to give that up because I don't think I can handle somebody saying, "Hey, it's the retard again!"

Jackal wrote:So yeah, my cross trainer and running to nowhere are not so bad with music in my ears and tv to watch.

That's currently my routine. My gf would ride the bike while I did weights, and Judge Judy would be on.

heh, Its the retard on the soccer field again! Gave me a chuckle.

As for toning up, i did very little actual weight training. I did mostly plyometrics and sprints with weights. For summer training, I would play ball at the local park with a 15 pound weight vest strapped on. Then the local jerks would start talking sh*t, forcing me to take off the vest and start busting ass. Kinda like when Piccolo removes the weighted cape and cap. Now they want to be your friend...lol.

Exactly, I actually had one around 50 year old woman stop her scooter (at 6 am!!!) and ask me if I hated my family.

I was so puzzled I was like what? She's like why else would you be torturing themself like this? I just don't get it.

That was my last day on the field. :(

I hate being watched when I am running or whatnot, for some reason it just annoys me. I guess thats why I run at night or do sprints at night or whatnot. Though I haven't done any running in like close to a month. I injured my left fibula playing basketball and couldn't even walk for like 3 days... in rehab right now, fuckin sucks...

That is by far the most awesome thing I've EVER heard.

Do you hate your family? Should've said yes, and then kicked the scooter.

Hey guys! If I run 15mins daily, is it a good excercise? I am 13. Also, I weigh 140 pounds now and I have been excercising a lot but I can't lose weight! Is it because I'm growing?

Thanks

you can find all kinds of info on losing weight, but it seems like the only places you can find info on gaining weight is on cancer/rehab sites.

uhh it wasn't a rhetorical question.

I guess, but keep it up. After like a week or so bump it up to 20-30 minutes a day and stuff. Cause just 15 minutes doesn't really do much unless you are pratically sprinting the whole time.

For every 2-3 hours you spend, eat a small meal. Try to eat 6 meals in a day, where each meal, you feel full or close to feeling full.

So it's been summer vacation for awhile and I felt I was burning out.

I couldn't handle the load I'd taken, I was going to bed at 1, waking up at 5.30, training from 7 till 10, napping from 11 till 1, and from 1 till around 9 I'd be at work. Then repeat the same cycle.

It got too heavy for me and I decided I'm going to pamper myself and let myself go for a week.

Boy do I regret it or what. I've just not been as chirpy, I mean I stay up late, catch all the movies I've been missing since having put myself on my strict workout routine but...I don't know, I don't get the same satisfaction I once upon a time used to.

Monday I'll be back at the gym, too bad Saturday they open at 12, if they opened earlier, I'd be there tomorrow. But alas...anyways...

So I've been focussing on cardio as of late, I really want to get some of my veins to show so I've got to cut the excess fat around my body. Another thing I'm trying to do is get my chest to look tighter, I think the years of slouching and walking hunched haven't done my posture any good. So yeah, I'm making a concious effort of walking straight now. What else, oh, I'm working hard on my arms, quite proud, I can actually see my triceps without flexing now, which is pretty nifty from the flabby ass arms that I had.

My biggest thing though, and once I've achieved that will I be able to say, yes...I've done a complete 180 from what I was...is my stomach. I've got a wedding to attend at the end of this year and I want to leave everyone stunned from when they last saw me. (Last summer.) So yeah, I'm doing crunches like mad, not only crunches but a using various different machines, medicine balls and other sit up techniques and varying them up. But as usual, you can't see muscle that's being obscured by fat so that has got to go.

One week off and I can say it worked, I thought it'd be good for me to take a week off, but this has only shown me I can't go back to what I was doing, I'll go mad, I love the feeling of total exhaustion at the end of the day, you just sleep better. I'm also less flirty when I don't go to the gym, maybe that's just mental though.

Uhm, yeah, just felt like sharing. Can't wait for Monday... :shifty:

Glad you took that week off, because I felt sooner or later you'd burn out. Glad your motivation and determination didn't go away!

Doing chest and back workouts actually help your posture. I've noticed it with me, and it's weird how by working out, it actually helps my posture. One of the magics of weight lifting. Keep up the good work; it's always good to hear success stories and progress. You better have August 6th circled on your calendar :P

So I double posted, up yours too.

I can't believe I stayed away for a whole week. The fact I had a flu contributed too, I put off my alarm more than once and then just kept procrastinating.

I was at the gym from 6.30 till 10 today, I know, I know, you shouldn't workout too long because cortisol kicks in, I know, I preach it too. I just couldn't leave though, I couldn't do it.

I spent an hour on the cross trainer, an hour lifting weights, half an hour taking a shit, 45 minutes swimming laps and 10 minutes in the sauna.

I loved every minute of it. Am I addicted?

Hahaha, thats quality!

I have only ever been to the gym a handful of times because of school, work, sport etc. Just never had the time.
People tell me though that even after I finish school (really soon) that spending the large amount of money for a membership is not worth it if you have weights n such at home or your own use.
I do do pushups, crunches, weights, running all at home and also play ALOT of sport and football training 2/3 times a week.
Ive also used the gym at school a few times and have enjoyed the weights side of it alot since I dont get the same sort of workout elsewhere, but access is limited there.
The only benefit I see for myself by going to the gym would be the weights.

What are some thoughts on whether its worth getting a gym membership even though im training for football 2/3 times a week for 2hours+, plus my other routine workouts at home?

 Jackal, you're addicted to the intensity, pain, and the adrenaline rush. I suggest you drink a protien shake!

It's subjective. There's pros and cons with in a gym and at home. The pros for a gym are obviously all the girls, weights, equipment, and machines they have, but the cons are (depends on the gym) waiting for lineups, transportation to and from the gym, the monthly cost, and if you're not a people-person. The pros of home is that its convenient, free of people and lineups, and if you have enough weights and equipment, there's no need to go to a gym. The cons are no girls, you might have limited weights/equipment, and it costs money to purchase weights and equipment.

It's up to you.

:P My week long break was due to not being able to walk for a week.

I hit the gym this morning for the first time since the injury, and it felt good. It was early (9 AM), so there weren't too many people there. Mainly worked on deltoids and chest, and finished off with a little bit of abs. Probably gonna go again afterwards to do bench and free weights... but personally after a week my arms felt like jelly.

I think you'd be the best person to talk to about that. I've been reading up on that a lot. What I've gathered is this much, a protein shake helps get fluids in to your muslces which enables them to recover faster. Okay, that sounds really nice. But...

I've also heard you put on weight due to protein shakes. Frankly, I'm trying to cut out the fat so that the muscle aspect comes to show. I'm this close to having my veins pop out, I really don't want to put on my KG's again because of a protein shake.

What I figure is this...if I make sure my body has enough water, won't my body automatically get that to my muscles and if I get enough rest won't it be sufficient?

Maybe I'm a bit misguided on the whole protein shake thing, give me your reply on this much and I'll ask a few more questions regarding protein shakes after reading your response.

it's like an extra meal. with a lot of protein. it'll help you in your quest to get more muscle definition but it won't help you lose weight or anything.

But it will add weight, right? Meaning not muscle weight, fat weight.

Is that correct?
