Of those I'd say Maxwell is the best by far, but Nigel de Jong is excellent at WBR/WBL for me.

Wed Aug 16, 2006 1:49 am

Yea Maxwell is definitely the best of them and if you can sign him that would be great. Before him I would go with Chiellini though because they are almost on the same level and Chiellini is like 3 years younger.

Check out Rafinha as a right sided wingback.

Wed Aug 16, 2006 11:23 am

Im also gonna try your tactic dada.. what key attributes do the players need? Anything special in players i should look for?

Edit> Im also going to pursue Julio Baptista (As most likely Arsenal).. Would he fit the formation/tactic.?

Wed Aug 16, 2006 1:12 pm

WBs- Good pace, dribble, pass, crossing and general defensive skills.
-These guys have alot of responsibility as they basically set the tempo of the game on the wings and supply lots of crosses. If you check the team instructions you will see its playes along the lines.

CMs- players who can play both CM and DM (well balanced both offensively and defensively. Long shots is a plus too because they normally lurk right behind all the action and sneak in some goals now and then. They arent as offensive minded as the AMs because I need their help to cut off counters. Julio Baptista sounds really good for it if you can get him.

AMC (number 10 kinda guy)- You need a playmake type of guy for this position. A Ronaldinho type with good creativity and such where he can set up goals as well as score them when the situation comes around. He's the guy in the middle so he has alot of responsibility. Also make sure he doesnt take corners since in those instances I set it so he is the only one outside the box. If he takes it then everyone else will be on the far post and nobody will be there on the edge of the box for the shot.

I will say this, at first it may be tough to start with this tactic but after a while it should be good once you get the right personnel.

Well, I finally completed my first game with FC Barcelona... despite it being a friendly. I think I realize why this game is so addicting now. :D

My first goal was scored by Eto'o, who took a header from Guily and sent it right over the keeper's head (it went right over the goalkeeper's icon, so I assume it went over him). His second goal was off a takeaway be Puyol, he shot it from right inside the box and it ripped into the left side of the goal.

Giovanni van Bronckhorst's goal was absolutely insane. He took the ball off a Puyol pass, dribbled it towards the goal, right before he got to the half circle in front of the box he let it go and it went towards the left side of the goal. The ball looked like it was going to miss the goal. The goalie dove but it ball curved just around him and just barely squeaked into the goal. (I almost fell out of my chair )

Ronaldinho's goal in the 78th minute was off a corner... sadly I cannot remmeber who it was.

This is a pretty addicting game. I'd play another game but I have to leave for Boston in like less than an hour. Anyways, here is the final stat sheet.

Btw, is there a image feature? cause Fraps doesn't seem to work with FM.

JUVENTUS vs CESENA - Serie A (home game)
4-0 (Zlatan Ibrahimovic 32, 35 Raul 56, Salomon Kalou 87)
A very very strange match. Cesena had 59% possession for the game but we hit them on the counter attack constantly and pretty much ripped them apart.

I released a bunch of youth players that were going nowhere, mostly to make room for a whole new group of youngsters that I want to bring in. I've taken control of the Under 20's squad since some of the really good 15-16 year olds I have weren't being played.

JUVENTUS @ UDINESE - Serie A (away game)
3-0 (Zlatan Ibrahimovic 15, 23, 75)
Fairly easy match, but they dominated us in possession again. This is a very strange tactic but it seems to work well.

I'm thinking about selling off Nigel de Jong, alot of clubs are interested in him and I'd like to bring in someone like Iraola to take his spot. We'll see, at the moment Zambrotta is really pushing for a starting place. Vucinic might have to go too, he's been awful and only scored 1 goal all season.

JUVENTUS vs PALERMO - Serie A (home game)
2-0 (Malaury Martin 11, Salomon Kalou 74)
Not as easy as I would've hoped but I'm glad Kalou scored, he's got 11 goals in 12 games which is insane for a midfielder. Nigel de Jong got man of the match, however...

I'm selling him to AS Roma for 20 million. I figured I could either stick with Zambrotta or sign someone like Iraola who will dominate and put in better crosses.

JUVENTUS @ PARIS SAINT GERMAIN - UEFA Cup Group Stages (away game)
[size=10]3-2 (Zlatan Ibrahimovic 5, 84 Bernard Mendy own goal 81)

Not an easy game, and they were beating us 2-1 for most of the game until we grabbed the two goals very very late in the piece.

JUVENTUS @ AC MILAN - Serie A (away game)
1-1 (Zlatan Ibrahimovic pen 39)
Another tough contest, Fred grabbed his first goal for Milan but we managed to pull one back and hold on from there.

After this, in a bit of a surprise Nigel de Jong accepted the contract from Lazio as opposed to AS Roma and Deportivo, so he's going there for 20 million. I'm going to use the money to either sign one of two players (Iraola or de Boorgart or whatever he's called) and it'll also fund the purchase of Hatem Ben Arfa from Chelsea for 18 million.

JUVENTUS vs LAZIO - Serie A (home game)
3-0 (Malaury Martin 40, Salomon Kalou 45, Rocha 45)
Excellent performance, just completely rampaged on Lazio. They only had one shot on goal all game, so I was pleased we kept them out. Rocha's goal was fantastic.

Just a note on Rocha. I signed him from E. Amadora for 1.5 million (could rise to 3.5) after I spotted him playing for the Portugal Under 21's. He's only 21 years old, and I kept him out of the line-up because I didn't think he was as good as Hugo Viana. After some average-mediocre performances from Viana I started thinking about a replacement, when Rocha went and scored 2 goals for the Portugal Under 21's against some other European team. I gave him a shot in the central midfield spot Viana plays and he had 2 goals by half time against Vicenza. He had some solid matches after that, and scored a great goal against Lazio. In 5 Serie A games he's had 3 goals and an assist, so I'm really happy so far.

Wow, CSKA Moscow flogged Barcelona at the Nou Camp 6-3 in the Champions League. This was after one of their players was sent off just after half time, and Vagner Love grabbed a hat-trick. Barca's last two goals were consollation ones, and Ronaldinho had a match rating of 4.

JUVENTUS vs TRABZONSPOR - UEFA Cup Group Stage (home game)
3-0 (Zlatan Ibrahimovic (17, 62, 69)
They just weren't good enough, I don't think they even had a clear chance at scoring. It'll get harder though, Chelsea is in the UEFA Cup also, along with a few others.

Mirko Vucinic has agreed terms with Parma. He'll be a great signing for them but just shit for me, I'm kinda sad to see him go but it's his own fault

JUVENTUS @ TORINO - Serie A (away game)
3-0 (Emerson 8, Zlatan Ibrahimovic 32, Jeremy Mathieu 65)
Another easy match and yet another goal from Ibrahimovic, he has 25 in 15 games which is pretty sweet. We're starting to pull away in 1st position, haven't lost a game all season.

JUVENTUS @ M. PETACH-TIKVA - UEFA Cup Group Stage (away game)
2-0 (Zlatan Ibrahimovic 3, 9)
After Zlatan scored 2 in the first ten minutes I figured we'd hammer them but nothing really went right. I did rest a bunch of my starters though.

JUVENTUS vs SIENA - Coppa Italia TIM 1st Round Leg 1 (home game)
1-0 (Salomon Kalou 45)
Closer than I'd want but whatever, it's only leg 1 and very very early in the tournament.

Since de Jong is going I'm out for a replacement WBR. At the moment I'm looking at the following...

Serge Gakpa (Monaco, young Frenchman who looks as if he'd attack like there's no tomorrow)
Daniel Alves (Sevilla, most people would already be familiar with him but IMO he's better than Iraola at the moment)
Yulian Jose Anchicho (Basel, Colombian international. Shows alot of promise but is my third choice)
Eduardo (Sao Paulo, only 23 years old and has incredible technical attributes. The rest leave a bit to be desired though)
Wesley Winter (Feyenoord, he's a Dutch Under 21 player. Looks good but wouldn't start)

I've decided to sign Serge Gakpa (Monaco only want 1.9 million for him, they are insane) to replace de Jong for the rest of this season, but I'll sign Daniel Alves as the long term replacement for next season. That way I get to give Gakpa some match time and see what he can do, while also getting Alves for next year.

JUVENTUS @ SIENA - Coppa Italia TIM 1st Round Leg 2 (away game)
0-1, Juventus win on penalties
First loss of the season but we advance anyway thanks to a penalty shoot-out.

Nice update Jaesus.

I have Ben Arfa on my game and he has been doing well. Should be a good aquisition.

Currently I have one match left and a two point lead. All I need is a draw to win on goal difference so I'm not worrying too much because I am facing Reims who are relegation battles. I wanna win this and the French Cup thingy and then hopefully ac milan will hire me. Havent had a job in Italy for quite some time so it should be exciting.

Thu Aug 17, 2006 2:49 am

I had him at Strasbourg and any time I played him up front he scored bucket loads, so I'm hoping he'll do the same.

Alves is gonna cost 20 million + if I buy him, I'll see how Gakpa goes first before I make any decisions on that.

Thu Aug 17, 2006 3:52 am

Ended up with Inter in this game. Not bad if you ask me. First orderof businesswas buying daniel carvaldo, sergio ramos and some youngsters. I'll update in detail once the window closes.

EDIT: I found this kid from Norway who literally plays EVERY position on the pitch. Its crazy, its either accomplished or natural. He is like 19 years old with nice stats. Loe Bing.

Thu Aug 17, 2006 2:14 pm

Loe Bing is pretty famous in the FM community, alot of guys seem to pick him up.

Hatem Ben Arfa scored a goal and was man of the match in his first game, nice start (Y) I want Vincent Kompany but Barcelona won't accept anything under 50 million... speaking of Barca, their manager was fired and I got offered the job (+ 45 million in transfer) but I turnt it down.

Thu Aug 17, 2006 2:50 pm

Hmm, Kompany isnt worth THAT much.

So far with Inter it has been oh so splendid. Adriano has been a monster for my side and it makes me think that maybe Zlatan isnt the best striker in the game.

I'm using the same tactic and my 3 AMs are, Daniel Carvalho (AMLC), Stankovic (AMRLC) and Christiano Ronaldo (AMRL). Between the three of them they have been putting on quite a show for fans and trust me, I havent seen my tactic play this great before. I completely dismantles Juventus (defending champs) 2-1 and in truth it could have been 6-1. Way more possession and shots on goal. Obviously Buffon was man of the match for keeping them close.

The only thing I dont really have sorted is my midfield but when I get some more funds that will be in order. Right now I am training some guys for new positions.

As it stands now this is my full lineup starting 11, and results so far.

Did you sign C Ronaldo, or was he already there when you took the job?

Thu Aug 17, 2006 9:03 pm

Right well Arsenal was getting a tad boring, I was thinking about resigning from the Club, but since im a big Arsenal fan it just wouldn't feel right.

After looking through a few teams Jae suggested to me ive decided im going to go with Ajax, get my reputation up then resign after awhile and see what teams will pick me up.

Before I get started I was just wondering how I should set up the game.

For my Arsenal one I used 4 Countries; England, Spain, Italy, France each covering their top league and the league below. I had the level of detail set to normal.

What would be the best set up?

Also do you guys usually play with "Attribute Masking" on or not?

Thu Aug 17, 2006 10:27 pm

Depends on what your comp can handle, but I usually go with this...

England (Premiership only)
Italy (Serie A only)
Spain (Primera only)
France, Germany or Holland (First division only)
Selected Team's Country (1st, 2nd and 3rd divisions)

So basically if I want to be a team in England I'll take the first 3 English divisions but only the top divisions of the other countries. I also retain all players from Brazil, Argentina, Mexico and either France, Germany or Holland depending on which ones you didn't pick.

I don't use attribute masking, just a waste of time basically. Also the detail level should be Normal regardless, High is pointless and just makes things hard to load.

Thu Aug 17, 2006 11:46 pm

Is attribute masking just where they dont show you the players ratings until after you have scouted him or signed him or whatever?

Thu Aug 17, 2006 11:47 pm

Yeah that's it, especially bad for small teams.

Thu Aug 17, 2006 11:54 pm

Yeah i hate that, but for some reason i keep turning it on :|

Well im about to start my first Football Manger game on my new PC, and it was going to be with Arsenal, but now i dont know. Ill be using dadamafia's tactic, and there is a few players from the Premiership that i was going to look at, but having just simmed a few days to see whether they are possible to acquire, i dont think i wanna use an English side, because alot of players i cant get because they are at rival clubs..

Is it possible to beat this or should i just look at other teams?
I will probably either stick with Arsenal, or use an Italian team..

DJ [Dean] wrote:Did you sign C Ronaldo, or was he already there when you took the job?
He was there when I got there. He is actually pretty useful. (y)

edit: Sometimes it doesnt really matter about the rivals thing, I guess it depends on how much of a rival you really are. I think there is a rating system for it in the editor. I remember at Barca there was no way I would get Julio Baptista but when I was in the Prem with Bolton, I had set Chelsea to be my rival and still got quality players from them.

Fri Aug 18, 2006 5:25 pm

Does anybody know if there's a way to turn off attribute masking when you've already started the game? I'm up to the year 2010, and there's no way i'm starting again. But attribute masking is a real pain in the dickhole.

Fri Aug 18, 2006 5:27 pm

Not any that I know of. Maybe get FM Scout and do a team search to view the players ratings.

Fri Aug 18, 2006 5:29 pm

Maybe using the editor? Not sure if you can edit games you have already started though..

Other than that, no clue sorry man.

Fri Aug 18, 2006 7:39 pm

Yeah id either try the editor or FM Scout, My problem with FM Scout is that I start to get carried away and use it far too often

Anyway ive started my Ajax game, just been playing through the friendlies trying to get the team accoustmed to the new formation.

So iv started getting scouting reports on the players im interested in, mainly just guys that I was looking at with Arsenal. Saddly Sahin isn't insterested in coming over currently, and its a bigger kick in the nuts since hes on his youth contract still and I would be able to do a free transfer.

Ill post my squad and starting formation, so if you have any ideas of who I should try for let me know. Im currently trying to get Solomon Kalou and Antonly Tymoschuk. But im gonna be needing quite a bit of a step up in talent to compete on the European stage.

Also my Transfer Budget is only 7.5m so ill be looking to sell off some players, also since I prefer to keep a small squad.

Note: Ive almost completed selling Grygera for 1.5m.

Sat Aug 19, 2006 1:52 pm

Well... I have continued to my second game.. but before that I noticed something really interesting in my mailbox.

Image

Upon seeing this I was like WHOA!!!! Suprising he'd be sold, and for a hefty 35 million as well... reminds me of the talk me and my friends were having about A-Rod on the Yankees. It was funny cause before my trip I saw a re-broadcast of the World Cup on ESPNU where they were talking about how the Brazilian committe were complaining that Real Madrid was feeding Ronaldo too much and he was getting fat  maybe this is why they sold him... Either way Chelsea is beyond stacked now...

I would have expected the fans to be happy, but I was suprised to see this:

Image

Either way I headed off to my next friendly against Betis. Let me just say Eto'o is a absolute monster. He scored his first goal in the 18th minute on a blast from the top right of the box, and his 21 came off a scuffle in front of the goal. He got a hat trick in the 30th minute when he put the ball into the top right corner. I was just like... wow...

Since my position was Keeper back in Middle School and High School, I made myself Keeper as well for FC Barcelona. I got pissed when Ricardo Oliveira scored on me. It was like a weird tip off Gio's legs and bounced to Oliveira, who put it past me.

Xavi got onto the scoresheet when he also let rip a shot from the top right of the box and it went all the way across goal and past the keeper and went in.

There wasnt another goal until the 87th minute. I think I screwed up the tactics and for some reason on the corners, my keeper was brought up on the offense as well. That left my goal wide open.... Either way the kick from the corner was headed by Ronaldino and hit the keeper and bounced to my keeper (Me), and I kicked it in... amazing.... I seriously had no clue my keeper was all the way upfield until that score there.

However one minute later Fernando shot at me and I made the save, but he got the rebound and put it in. Eto'o in the 89th minute put in the last goal of the game by faking out the keeper and burying it into the left side of the goal.

Also David Rivas had a tackle from behind in the 16th that got him sent off while Puyol I think got two yellows and thats what got him sent off.

Either way... Eto'o was definatly the Man of the Match... his playing was just plain silly.

Sat Aug 19, 2006 1:57 pm

You must have really screwed up somewhere. Just check the player instructions for attacking corners and youll be fine. As I told you before I was surprised Ronaldo was sold. He always rots on Reals bench and complains about wanting playing time in my game. I hope he does really well, maybe even win player of the year. What does ur tactic look like?

Sat Aug 19, 2006 5:37 pm

Just wondering how you changed your wage and transfer budgets dada? I just went and did it for Arsenal, gave myself a $120,000,000 transfer budget, started a new game and i still have a 31 mill budget..

Also, Jae how did you create players..? I created myself as an Australian playing for Arsenal, but im in the game with a Tajikistan nationality, and playing for Kongsvinger.. And also my ratings are nothing like what i gave myself..

Any help lol!
