Real Madrid agree Ronaldo deal with AC Milan

ROME (AFP) - Real Madrid have finally agreed to sell their Brazilian striker Ronaldo to AC Milan after thrashing out a deal during late night talks.

The clubs´ lengthy negotiations had stalled over a difference in their perception of the burly Brazilian´s value; the Spanish giants refused to budge under eight million euros and the Italians were stuck on five million.

But according to Italian newspaper La Repubblica AC Milan are willing to pay Real 7.5 million euros for Ronaldo, who for the past while has been confined to Fabio Capello´s substitutes´ bench.

The report said the 30-year-old Ronaldo, who played with AC Milan´s city rivals Inter between 1997 and 2002, is expected in Milan Thursday for a medical.

Ronaldo began his stint at Real in 2002 after a 45 million euro transfer from Inter.

His current contract with the Liga side was set to expire in June 2008.

Wow...I can't see them moving Gilardino, Seedorf, or Pirlo out of the starting lineup to make room for him. He might be stuck on the bench with Inzaghi.

I think Gilardino is injured (i think?) and even if he wasnt I'd start Ronaldo over him for sure. He doesnt play either Seedorf nor Pirlo's position so I dont really understand how they equate.

Fri Jan 26, 2007 8:03 am

Well the usually play with 1 forward, and they could go to 2 if they put him in for Seedorf or Pirlo.

I wonder if he will play like he did in his golden days in Inter.Boy,those were sweet times for him.Hopefully they won't bench him (Y) .

hm.. wow AC Milan is gonna be killer now... but for some reason I can't imagine Ronaldo in the Milan jersey...

Sun Jan 28, 2007 10:28 am

Put him on Milan in FM, youll get used to it. 8-)

Sun Jan 28, 2007 10:49 pm

Yeah i think now Milan can attack 3rd place in Serie A.Before this transfer they haven't got the right forward..yeah Gilardino is nice but damn this is Milan you know they should have forward like Shevchenko or hm..Eto'o.They were in need of a class striker. Now they have it.Yeah Ronaldo is 30,he isn't in his gold years but he is RONALDO you know im 12 now and before i start to play basketball i was playing football and the first footballer (after my favourite and from my country - Hristo Stoichkov) who i heard about was Ronaldo.

All Italian football matches have been stopped for this weekend or something due to riots that caused the death of one police officer. Anyone have the news on that?

SERIE A AND B SUSPENDED

The Serie A and B Championships have been suspended after the death of a policeman in the Catania riots.

FIGC President Luca Pancalli made the announcement this evening. “We will immediately set up a permanent round table commission to discuss the situation between sport and politics. It’s not possible to carry on like this. If this is football, then I’m stopping everything.”

The Sicilian derby, eventually won 2-1 by Palermo this evening, had been interrupted after 57 minutes due to crowd trouble when tear gas floated on to the pitch.

While play resumed and the final whistle sanctioned the Rosanero’s victory, the problems intensified outside the Stadio Massimino.

A large group of Catania supporters engaged in a full-scale riot with the police and one officer, 38-year-old Filippo Raciti, was killed when struck in the face by a homemade bomb.

“Football in Italy must stop and take stock. Enough is enough,” continued Pancalli. “I cannot find the words to describe a 38-year-old man who lost his life in such a way. This is not sport.

“All the football authorities I spoke to immediately agreed that we had to stop everything. Words aren’t enough any more. Right now I am astonished by what has happened and this is completely unacceptable.”

It’s now reported that hundreds of people have been rushed to the local hospital with injuries, although none are thought to be life threatening.

This tragic incident comes just a week after Ermanno Licursi, director of Calabrian amateur side Sanmartinese, was killed in a fight with opposition players after the final whistle of a Serie D game against Cancellese.

The Amateur League was suspended and this latest shameful scenario has pushed the FIGC to take similar action with Serie A, B, C and the Youth Championships.

The incidents will no doubt harm Italy's bid to host the 2012 European Championships.

Italian football is fucked up in general and it is not good for their game. No players will want to join Italian teams now because of the trouble.
