In "Funky Fresh Dressed" Missy Elliot says 'My attitude is bitchy cause my period is heavy' ;)

Dramacydal wrote:whites will never take over rap, eminem is the only good white rapper, but thats it. blacks have those special voices that whites dont have, the voices that make rap so great 4 example pac, outlawz, nas, biggie etc. whites jus dont have the skills blacks have if it comes 2 rap

Rap is poetry that is vocalized; the rhythm and rhyme directly parallel that of stereotypical poetry, like the kind that is read. A perfect example of the direct connection would be 2Pac's "The Rose that Grew from Concrete."

My point is that the voice has nothing to do with whether or not it's good rap; the skin color has nothing to do with good rap; the only thing that matters is the actual talent when it comes to the rhymes and rhythm of the rap. However, voice does come into effect on delivery, the flow, of the rap, and that's why some rappers are much easier to listen to, say Jay-Z, Nas, Andre, 2Pac, Biggy, etc. But ultimately, flow comes down to the talent level of the written rhyme....

...which means that odds are, Walt Whitman could write a brilliant rap. Edgar Allen Poe could write a brilliant rap. Homer could write a brilliant rap. Emerson could write a brilliant rap. Any great poet of literature could write great raps, probably better than anything any of us have ever heard or read....but the only thing that could cause the rap to be well, crap, would be the flow.

By making a statement that says that 'blacks have better voices for rap' is silly and racist....Bubba Sparxxx sounds like a black guy, but he's the biggest 'cracker' I've ever seen in my life...

In my opinion, Eminem is the best rapper at this point in time followed closely by Nas; they're poets and they're creative...I could write a rap about girls dancing in a club and call it 'Right Thurrr' just as easy as you could....the rap of today is pathetic, and I hope some more white rappers get into the game so the current crop of so called 'ganstas' get pissed and return to the reason for rapping in the first place: stories of everyday hardships and perserverance and oppresion and love and hate....

Anyway, I need to get up for another long day of classes....yay for 3 hours of sleep! :'(

I hope that it won't happen. Why should white people take everything away from, you know... but white people really could have more $ to use.

Thu Sep 04, 2003 11:31 pm

Does anyone care wether the rappers are white or black or yellow or blue? Or, formulated differently: will anyone like rap more/less if it was taken over by white people? Try to be honest ;)

Fri Sep 05, 2003 12:49 am

Im white, but i feel rap is never gonna be taking over by white people.
Eminem is prolly the most successful rapper going around right now, but 2pac is still making songs beyond the grave.
the majority of rappers are black, but i wouldnt really care if they were purple or woteva, its the music of rap that i like, i have no care of race

were all human, no-one should be judged by the colour of there skin :)

I agree with Shane except for this part

My list goes:
Nas
Rakim
Andre
Guru

i belive that was a simular thing they said when Wilt Chambarlay came in, that no way blacks will take ove basketball, and look what happend!!!

one of the reasons Eminem becme so popular so fast is that white pple can understand him from first or second listen, there are songs by 2pac which i ve been listening to for years and i still couldnt get the lyrics untill i looked it up on the net. and who the hell sysy eminem is a blck wanabe??he doesnt talk with an accsent?! he never said nigger in any of his songs?
what makes him a black wannbe??
and i agrre that white pple try to be black is pethetic, even black people try to be black thugs is pethetic!
ppple think that all blacks talk like that but what about those blacks who are lawers, doctors??!!!
white will take over rap eventualy, look at what is happening with blck rap, it becoming worse and worse!! afte 2pac Dre and all them, blacks think that just coz i hustle and life is hard i can be a millioner with rap!!!
no way, u gota have tallent, with emenim and white ppple they know that going into rap buss is hard compatition so they revolutionize it, bring something new to it!!

Sat Sep 06, 2003 12:30 am

he doesnt talk with an accsent

yeh he does, when he says 'wit' instead of 'with', and 'dat' instead of 'that' he's talkin black

Sat Sep 06, 2003 1:43 am

And if he even dared to use the word "N*gger" in his lyrics, that would cost him his life.

Is that a official black language or something? imo, he can use that...as long as he doesnt say the N word ect

Sat Sep 06, 2003 6:44 pm

what eminem says is not black talk it simply rhimes wit the lyrics, its funny though coz Dre and all of them call him n*gga and he doesnt, thow the hell doen that work!!???

plus as i said b4, blck rappers have to come up with something new, hs anyone listen to some of the new rap artist?? they dont even have a rthim!!
their lyrics suk and unoriginal!!!

Yeah. Ebonics. Its not really official. Its what they use in the streets. Mostly because thats the only way they/we learned to talk, If someone talked like that to your face everyday you would pick it up too.

what eminem says is not black talk it simply rhimes wit the lyrics, its funny though coz Dre and all of them call him n*gga and he doesnt, thow the hell doen that work!!???

Well, em is quite outnumbered and he'd probably get shot down. But as long as black people keep comin from the hood they'll keep rap. And then more positive messages could be used, like black eyed peas, nas sometimes, etc.

Sun Sep 07, 2003 3:20 am

Ebonics. Its not really official.

Actually, Ebonics is an official and recognized dialect, just like the Boston dialect, Creole, Spanglish, etc. Every way of speech is recognized officially if a large enough popluation speaks it, and Ebonics is starting to be spoken by whites and hispanics as well as blacks.

what eminem says is not black talk it simply rhimes wit the lyrics

Eminem speaks ebonics...he deletes certain sounds from words, like the 'h' sound at the end of 'with' and so on....the way he raps is incredibly similar to ebonics; however, he does switch out of that dialect in interviews (for the most part) and in some of his songs.

its funny though coz Dre and all of them call him n*gga and he doesnt, thow the hell doen that work!!???

How does that work? I'm a white guy, and some of my athlete friends who are black call me 'nigga;' it's a term of endearment, like friend or brother.

blck rappers have to come up with something new,

I agree. The Nelly formula has overtaken pretty much all of rap....you can still find quality rap if you look for it (I've really been listening to Mr. Cheeks' albums as of late, it's great stuff), and then there's always the old stuff.

some of the new rap artist?? they dont even have a rthim!!
their lyrics suk and unoriginal!!!

Definately true. As I said in the last paragraph, rap is manufactured using a formula. If you have the right look, voice, and rhythm, you can be a rap star. Hell, Madskillionaire and Yohance could make it big as rappers if they knew the right people...

In a sense, white's have already taken over the rap industry. It's a part of pop culture as opposed to a type of music that was on the fringe. Rap was never played here in Iowa until the last few years, and now nearly every station plays it - but they only play the songs that MTV makes popular. If I play something that isn't on the radio or MTV, even if it's by a popular artist (say, Poor Lil' Rich by 50 Cent), for someone who is mainstream, then they don't like it just because they've never heard it before. Any rap song (say, that song about fucking car rims) can be made popular if it's played on the right station....

Anyway, I gotta go watch Iowa State get beat by Ohio now....laters

So! He grew up in Detroit around a bunch of black kids that were talking like that. He's known all the guys in D12 pretty much forever. He picked it up from all them.

I think that the majority of all rappers will stay black. In fact, I'm positive they will. A guy like Eminem, is someone you come upon every 50 years. The stories and the past he has are things that many whites, in fact many blacks too, don't have. Bubba Sparxx was okay, but so far he's a one hit wonder. There's this white guy named Sullee(http://www.sullee.com), who opened for Master P, and got booed off the stage because he was no Eminem. If you're white and don't have the shit that Eminem has to say, then you've got nothing. Sullee lives in the same town as me, a suburb of Boston, where the only black's that go to the schools, come from a program called Metco, where black kids from the inner city, come to the suburbs so they can go to a nice school. Sullee will never be big because of where he comes from.

i think the only reaosn that white guy didnt make it coz of the time period, now beigh Black is cool! pple dont see imitations, pple dont see that most black rappers with limited talent try to imitate 2pac, DRe ect, pple stragh away see when u try to imitate eminem. if some big black guy was to some on to te stage and start rapping bullshit he would not have been kicked off!!!!

but agian u have to come up with something new to stay in it!!! look at bball now! when MJ came in and started doing all thses dunks that no one saw b4 he was a hero!! form there he got his name and his game developed! now u have played like D-mile, Dasmon Mason, J-rich, and others who can do what ever MJ did and prob better!! but no one really cares!!! coz its old now! VC is the only one who put the dunk to the next level! no more John stokton "by the book" passes, it no look ally oops form Kidd. No more slow, weird looking 3pt shooting from Bird or weird FTs fomr barry, now it run at speed of light and shoot a 3 like Ray allen or Peja!!

if u want to make it u have to get somehting new! 50 cent cam in with his huge boddy type and soft spoken rap, that is new and that is good, but even that is getting anoying.
ask the first black NBA star who he looked up to when he was groing up??!! it will have to be a white guy!
same here, all thses white kidds grow up with black and look up to them although most of those rappers do drugs and shit and they want to rap like that, eventualy it will happen!! one after the other. look at it in 30 years time 40 50.

and with that nigga thing! that is what i cant undestand, a black man can call me nigga meaning like brother and i cant say the same meaning the same??!!

Sun Sep 07, 2003 10:26 pm

if some big black guy was to some on to te stage and start rapping bullshit he would not have been kicked off!!!!

If you don't have talent, it shows. If you have the look but don't have the skills, then you're less likely to succeed.

ask the first black NBA star who he looked up to when he was groing up??!! it will have to be a white guy!

Not necessarily. He could have admired a sibling, someone he played with, or someone he watched playing on the local court. Or he might not have looked up to someone who was athletically gifted.

and with that nigga thing! that is what i cant undestand, a black man can call me nigga meaning like brother and i cant say the same meaning the same??!!

The word has a history of being derogatory when used by white people. When a white person uses the word, it always has that history of racism and prejudice attached to it. Even if you do not intend to use it in a racist way, it will always be a racist remark for a white person to make, as it was coined for use as a derogatory word for a black person.

It is therefore inappropriate for a white person to use the word in the same context a black person may use it.

Exactly. As a matter of fact, Michael Jordan never looked up to anyone in the NBA. When he was a kid, he barely followed it. He looked up to his brother. It says that in the The Jordan Rules. He never watched NBA games or planned on having anything to do with it after his career. Also, I don't think we should compare basketball with rap...

What? Blacks get kicked off stage all the time. Camron was boo'ed in LA and Juelz Santana got his ass whooped right here in Philly at the Powerhouse concert by fans.

and with that nigga thing! that is what i cant undestand, a black man can call me nigga meaning like brother and i cant say the same meaning the same??!!

The n!gga thing well look at it like this. Even though it isn't common occurance between most whites I got a white friend that calls everyone cracker. He calls his black and white friends cracker as a spin on N!gga and we all just be laughin about it, but if I called him that I don't think he'd like it...Plus there are many other words to use instead of those negative ones to "holla" at someone with

ask the first black NBA star who he looked up to when he was groing up??!! it will have to be a white guy!

Many black from way back looked up to people in others sports such as Jesse Owens and Jackie Robinson, even though they were different sports the person would want to become the "Jesse Owens" of basketball more-so than the Bob Cousy.

...just thought of a way in which Rap could turn white. A black rapper could pull a 'Michael Jackson', and next thing you know, there's a white guy with a plastic nose rapping about hoe's in the hood! :D
