Thanks Andrew. There are many things that we could do in 2k9 (audio edits) and 2k10 (stadium 3d editing) that cannot be done in 2k11. Unfortunately our modding depends on the progress of other communities making tools (other than Vlad) so any research and development isn't occurring here. Unfortunately due to the consistency between the file formats of NBA and MLB PC, along with the formats of the 360 discs it doesn't look like we'll be able to get a PC friendly setup. That said, the fact that 2k9 tools still work in 2k11 is nice enough that they didnt change their compression formats.

Thank you for the insight with Tim, Lutz and Brien. I do wish I was active in the community during those times so I could understand their impact more since it always baffled me how we knew putting fsh and ebo files in the sgsm file just worked and then same with the customart feature in 03/04.

Q, I think you mean Tomato Tomato but I agree with what you said. It's too bad the selfishness with the 2k lighting tweaks and the "shadow mods" didn't allow us to make our own custom lighting global files.

Thank you George7, and I'm glad someone else really noticed that change when the quality of the game changed as well. Personally I am really appreciative of what you've done with Live 08....I really liked that game and saw it's potential but I was pretty burned out from all the stuff I did for 07 so I moved to the 360 version and the 2k series that year. I actually just barely installed the lastest version of TUP but now I crash each time I play a game with any team. I'd make a thread about it but Andrew will ban me . (It's my fault, gotta reinstall)

i forgot i was gonna touch on this earlier when i made my post. i guess in the earlier days, it was more patching than anything else. just updating graphics that have been outdated an whatnot, but it eventually evolved into much much more, especially when the Live games got much more complex around Live 2005/06. some of the stuff we have been able to change (like lighting) we could never dream of changing back in say Live '98 days. with that said, i think a lot of these newer patches like changing behaviors, animations, 3d models, i would consider all of that "modding" but the early term "patching" i think has stuck since those are the roots of where the new-school modding came from. Tomato, Toh-mah-toh.

I'd say it was always modding, to me the terms are interchangeable unless you're specifically talking about an official patch from the developers (and then we'd obviously clarify by calling it an official patch or official update). Patching and patches just seem to be the terms that became popular in the community.

EA knew about the NLSC and the patchmaking community when they started adding the custom art folders, so I'd say it was done as a favour and to quietly support patchers. Not that NBA Live was the first game to feature something like that (off the top of my head, I'm pretty sure Doom/Doom II had support for multiple WAD files dumped in the main game folder for custom levels and the like) but they knew how it would make things a lot easier.

I joined here because the forum I used to frequent went under, and because The X's Bobcats dynasty was so awesome. Nearly six years later, and I've gotten a lot out of these forums. I'm now Facebook friends with people from all over the world (which makes me cool ) I've gone from an avid but uninformed (a.k.a. 12 year old) basketball fan to an obsessive one (probably not a good thing), a parentheses whore (see what I'm doing here).

While only Thierry rivals by lack of commitment to them, I love making dynasty/association stories as I get so much out of new NBA releases, and it gives me a creative outlet (and a world where Oden > Derrick Rose)

Don't know where I'm going with this, but this is obviously my favorite forum (see my obscene post count). Congrats on all the posts Jao. Sorry Duke shat the bed (ruined my bracket...) and that the Celtics have no healthy big men (besides Jermaine the drain, who when not being turrible, is out with like a yeast infection) Rondo for Oden this offseason?

So he won't be eliminated and placed alongside Kick. Oz and anything relating to feet just don't mix. Also creates an interesting tie between Oz and dragon.

Looking for the official update for Live 99 if there was one. Tried EA's servers first but they sucked at the time and can't complete the d/l so I searched for other sites. Found this dump and got the official update. Played the game, Vince Carter is allergic to dunking, thought something was wrong, came back to the site and lurked the forums to find an answer to my suspicions. Found out that there was indeed a second official update to fix the problem and make Vince able to dunk. Kept on lurking the site to find solutions to problems I encountered with the game.
Only started posting here when I got interested about patches for Live 2001, mostly with posts like those you see in patching sections (posts like "release please! great work! cool! find a better pic!" etc.). Since Live 2002 wasn't available for PC and patching Live 2001 was the only option for a PC gamer, interest in patches grew and kept coming back here occasionally.
Keep coming back here now for 1) get naked pics of Jackal, 2) patches for 2K, 3) NBA-music-association stories-and variety of topics, 4) news about 2K and hopefully Live (suck on that Elite) games, 5) semi-nude pics of Lean, 6) more naked pics of Jackal.

I believe I joined when I loved Live 2003 so much that I began searching for jersey and roster updates, even when I had Live 2004.

So far you know me for all my past failures but this 6-1/2 years have been wonderful here and it's a great basketball-loving group of people.

I found the forums in 2005 when I was looking for roster updates. Soon after I found the dynasty stories section and followed Marquis's and The X's stories without a user. Then registered in 2006 to post my own 76ers story, which was a disaster.

Kept coming here to check other stories, get roster updates and post my own. The next dynasty was also a disaster, finally got one right with the Wizards.

Despite having a lot of friends who play and follow basketball, most of them don't really know that much about the NBA, basically just Heat, Lakers and Celtics for them, with a few exceptions of course. So it's good to come here and talk about the NBA and it's great to follow the arguments between shadowgrin and zanshadow in the Heat thread.

I'm glad I'm still here after 4,5 years and I enjoy coming here. I hope I'm one of the few Heat fans (maybe only) here you guys find tolerable.

and Thierry i don't think you can vote retroactively (the rule is once per day, but you shouldn't be able to vote for days you didn't vote on or else you would get 2 votes for today, so your "day 2" picks should only be counted)

When and why did I come here?

Sometime in the late 90s I ran across the site and have been around almost ever since. I eventually joined up and I was originally "Catsxmice." You might remember that like an idiot I used another patcher's roster (nba live 2000?) back in the year 2002(?) and just put the players on the right teams and then released the roster as my own without knowing I was supposed to give credit . (and many of you think I am an idiot now.) I then left a year or 2 later. I came back in in the mid 2000s, however I had lost my password and had gotten rid of my old email. Thus I rejoined as puttincomputers.
Its been fun and it has helped me grow up a little to hang out with you guys. Bash me all you want, it helps me out more than you will ever know.

Wow, 15g. If you keep this up, you will catch up to Jae by next year.

While everybody had console's, my family was more into pc's, so I always asked my parents for the latest NBA Live PC release, getting it shipped straight to me since 96. I lurked the various sites every now and then for years, every now and then binge reading the old black and blue forum. I joined on my current account because I didn't have a job, and had a lot of time on my hands, and a question. Modding/Patching and making videos was a nice hobby, and I enjoyed customizing the game in various ways. Why I am still here since I don't patch anymore? The people. It's like a metaphor for my entire social life throughout my growth. Great diversity connected to a common interest.
