It's one thing that we allow just anyone off the street with no proper license or training to buy these kind of poisons seperately, it's quite another when you allow just anyone to buy mixed poisons. It's like letting people buy mustard gas or anthrax or radon.

Besides, there is no way of knowing what these fly-by-night operations are mixing in with the other poisons, it could be radon or anthrax or asbestois. It's not like anyone actually needs these toxic "drinks" so why not just ban them? They serve no social purpose, are created by mysterious and possibly foreign corporations, all while not submitting themselves to government regulation, oversight and management. That's all very very shady. I wouldn't be surprised if the money from these "drinks" are finding their way to terrorists just like all illegal drug money does.

The people of California just stood together to turn back the corporate drug agenda and prevented the state from turning into a wasteland full of dead stoners who drove their SUVs into each other and over children. I say we let the people protect themselves yet again by banning these horrific "drinks" lest they too become weapons of chaos that prevent this economy and country from recovering from the corporate assault led on it.

You wouldn't give heroin to a child, just like you shouldn't give anyone these "drinks."

http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/co ... 07268.html
The Chicago company that makes the most popular of a slew of controversial caffeinated alcoholic beverages announced Tuesday night that it was removing caffeine and other sources of the stimulant from all of its products.

Phusion Projects said in a statement that it planned to "reformulate its products to remove caffeine, guarana and taurine nationwide. . . . Going forward Phusion will produce only non-caffeinated versions of Four Loko," the company's most popular drink.

"We have repeatedly contended - and still believe, as do many people throughout the country - that the combination of alcohol and caffeine is safe. If it were unsafe, popular drinks like rum and colas or Irish coffees . . . would face the same scrutiny that our products recently faced," said Chris Hunter, Jeff Wright and Jaisen Freeman, the company's managing partners. "We are taking this step after trying - unsuccessfully - to navigate a difficult and politically charged regulatory environment at both the state and federal levels."

Phusion previously announced that it was voluntarily ceasing sales in New York after officials there pushed to ban the beverages. The latest action came as federal officials are reportedly planning to crack down on the increasingly popular beverages, a response to alarm raised by health authorities and law enforcement officials.

And in case you think Paul23 is not well represented in Congress:
"This ruling should be the nail in the coffin of these dangerous and toxic drinks," [N.Y. Senator Charles "Moobs"] Schumer said. "Parents should be able to rest a little easier knowing that soon their children won't have access to this deadly brew."
...
"Prohibiting these drinks will literally save lives, preventing potentially deadly mayhem and overdrinking," said Connecticut Attorney General Richard Blumenthal (D), who was recently elected to the Senate [over Linda McMahon] and has led an effort by state attorneys general to restrict the drinks.

I'm pretty sure guarana is just a source of caffeine it's in a lot of energy drinks like that five hour shot with the horrible commercials. I think the powder of it is what killed that guy. I didn't know what taurine was, but on Wiki it says:
A review published in 2008 found no documented reports of negative or positive health effects associated with the amount of taurine used in energy drinks, concluding that "The amounts of guarana, taurine, and ginseng found in popular energy drinks are far below the amounts expected to deliver either therapeutic benefits or adverse events"

Still, I wouldn't drink a 24 pack of the former Four Loko in one sitting. Something like that probably would cause deadly mayhem. In your organs.

interestingly enough, four loko does not disclose how many mgs of caffeine they put in their drinks. i'd guess it's in the range of all of those "energy shot" type drinks which is like 50-70 mg/oz on the low end to 500+ mg/oz on the other. that's a shitload of caffeine mixed in with a 12% alcoholic drink. that can't be good for you. like a ticking time bomb on your heart before it explodes in your chest

"hours of energy now, no 2:30 feeling later!" god i hate those commericals. they ran that crap on nba tv all the time.

Well if it's got caffeine AND guarana (which is just another way to get caffeine) I'm sure it's full of the stuff. Energy drinks certainly are.

I doubt anyone has died from standard use though, we have people in another thread talking about double digit shots when that can easily kill you under the wrong circumstances and they're all alive. The guy who died from caffeine above as I noted took almost 100 times the standard dose, even if the Four Loko's were swarming with the stuff it'd probably be hard to do. I mean look at all the stories and you see things like .30 BAC and almost everything seems to be associated with similar binge drinking of standard drinks. Four Loko or any caffeine-alcohol drink wasn't the issue, overconsumption (huh...) was. How much would you have to drink to get .30 BAC?

According to what I could find, a double on the rocks of any hard liquor, if you drank eight of them over a four hour period at 160lbs would only get you to .22. Standard beer's wouldn't get you to .14. They had to be drinking them like mad. So my 24 pack in one sitting warning is probably valid advice, otherwise it's probably just Reefer Madness style hyperbole.

This is why it is important that we have policy experts in Congress, and why the last four years have been such a great time for this nation. Instead of listening to the temper tantrums of a bunch of addicts and turning away from the threat facing the American People, the members of Congress who were actually elected by the American People sat down and painstakingly examined the hard science. That is why they came to the proper conclusion and have acted to make sure these poisons are not getting into the hands of our children by passing legislation that bans it.

All Americans should be thankful that OUR Congress and OUR President have yet again come through to protect us from another foreign corporate threat. There are only a few weeks left before the corporate agenda once again steals our government from us and hands it to foreigners. I cannot even begin toimagine what horrors they will be forcing down our throats and addicting us to against our wills over the next two years.

These holidays will be bittersweet knowing that they may be the last we are going to have.

Oh, the real (one who was here before me) Axel . Hi, I'm "Axel.", nice to meet you. :)

As for the rest of you, the fact that you say I'm "fake" and not fun (which I guess is true sometimes) is just unacceptable. :shake: Especially you Q, whom I played Adidas Live Run with. (N)

Never tried energy drinks, so can't contribute much to this discussion. (N) Carry on.

It's funny that people who I can remember times before they posted think they matter. Especially when they're entirely as trivial as they are. Look at the last three posts. z02 and "Axel" made posts about some kind of meta-culture of the forum or posted complete gibberish nobody could ever give a shit about. (While admitting they have absolutely nothing to say about the topic at hand.) Paul23 was at least somewhat on topic even if he's still trapped in his fantasy world where he can't leave his house lest the corporations attack him and his dog.

We won't even get started on the wasteland they've left NBA Talk as.

Pretty bummed about Four Lokos being banned though. They were interesting. Will have to settle for home-made ones now
