I usually just rest my eyes. But I just got a new netbook this weekend. So next time I'm on a plane, I'll be bringing that.

I think that you have to pay to download games onto the ds. But thats for the DSi only. the regular ds you can't.

I would personally go with the PSP, because there are better games out there for it. But the ds has Mario 64 DS.

Go for the psp.

Get a Dell Mini (or any other netbook for that matter) for 200 euros and load all the movies/tv shows/whatever you want on it. Problem solved.

That's what I did last year, Milan-Madrid, then Madrid-Fuerteventura and back. Of course I was also pretty entertained by the lightning bolt that seems to hit our plane every damn year in the storm on the way back from Madrid.

Playing games on your laptop does entertain you a lot and is a grade A time killer, but that game you recommended, I'm not sure.

I own a Nintendo DS Lite which I use on my daily train commute to & from work. Got a R4DS or whatever they are, so all games you can put on one cartridge, which is sweet as you don't need to worry about carrying any game cartridges around. Am about 75% my way through Lego Star Wars: Complete Saga at the mo, having finished Age of Empires: Age of Kings (?!?) a few months back.

I'd definitely recommend, & this is coming from somebody who is not a Nintendo guy (I did admittedly own an original NES back in the day), nor have I owned a handheld before. Battery life is alright, as Jao said, the dimmer you have backlighting, the longer it lasts.

If I was getting one now though, I'd probably just get DSi instead of normal DS Lite as it probably has longer battery life (maybe somebody can confirm, would make sense though) & a few more options.

This seems like a good idea to me too, it's around the same price range as a DS/PSP, only thing I wasn't sure of is that most of them come with XP, and most of them have a 160-180GB HD. An x264 is easily 4-5GB.

Then again, I also have a ton of brrips sized at 1-2 GB at the max.

This seems like a sound idea to me. What's your experience with the Dell Mini Joe?

If you're into games the PSP hosts a whole lot of games. Though I really think that the DS has the most kickass games on handheld console.

My sister got an Acer Aspire (I mentioned the Dell Mini because it's probably the best one out there) netbook for cheap last year (200 euro I think) and it's actually great for the uses I mentioned earlier... It's not a laptop, as in you can't play videogames, edit video/audio or use memory intensive apps like Photoshop on it, but it's great for surfing the internet (you can get one of those 7 mbps 3G internet cards for as little as 15 euro/month, probably less up there in Holland where there's no abundance of crooks who tax everything on top of the already ridiculous 21% VAT rate) watching movies and listening to music when your iPod's battery's dead (which is pretty much everything I do on my home PC anyway.) It's a great, little, portable device.

120/160 GB is more than enough, in my opinion, for this kind of computer. Consider what I said earlier, it won't get much use a part from playing movies, etc so the space you're using will just be for storing movies/tv shows/videos of other kind. I myself stored 35 movies and the whole ten seasons of Friends easily. And if that's not enough, they're selling portable 320/500 GB hard drives the size of a wallet for about 130 euro nowadays.

Just one piece of advice, don't put Vista/Windows 7 on it, it won't run smoothly. Stick with XP and you'll be more than fine.

I know you're leaning away from the Nintendo DS, but if you do go that route, there are two games in particular that I never (ever) get tired of. And that's saying alot, actually, because I have an extremely short attention span with handheld games

1) Word Jong- it's like a mix of Mah-Jongg (sp?) and Scrabble.
2) Mario Kart DS

I'm sure Peggle DS is great, I don't have it though. But the PC/XBOX360 versions are superb.

Also, the minigames on New Super Mario Bros. are alot of fun, we play those all the time. But best 2-player, so that probably doesn't suit you for this purpose.
