Other video games, TV shows, movies, general chit-chat...this is an all-purpose off-topic board where you can talk about anything that doesn't have its own dedicated section.

That's the same as athletics though, how many running events are there?

What the hell are you bitching about now? People talking about if someone in one sport is better that another in a different sport? CRIMES AGAINST HUMANITY!

I really have no idea why you're so obsessed with me. Or your need to whine about my supposed whining.
I was merely lamenting, with really only minor interest after reading a related tome, the fact that the media has been on a bender over proclaiming Phelps the "greatest athlete of all time" due to his dominant performance and chance at grabbing eight medals, despite the favorable conditions he has against most other fields of athletics. I have zero problem with anyone contending that domination in swimming is greater than domination in another if they have an argument for the reasoning. But the media seems to be hooked on the "EIGHT MEDALS STFU" drug.
The prospect of finding nine things I'm best at, making them Olympic events and then I'll be the "greatest athlete of all time" is my point. I'll never be. But if we define it by medals in favorable conditions, I will be.

Me responding to you is me being "obsessed" with you?
Oh sorry, I should be agreeing with you. Fuck those motherfuckers who want to talk about Michael Phelps! Jesus Christ!
Is that better?
Sat Aug 16, 2008 8:49 pm
No, you responding to me about me would be considered that.
And I never said anything about people who want to talk about Michael Phelps. Stop assuming.

I guess people in the media aren't people now
Sat Aug 16, 2008 9:13 pm
Well, I certainly don't consider them to be. I didn't know people still did.
Sat Aug 16, 2008 9:18 pm

What do you consider them to be then?
Sat Aug 16, 2008 9:24 pm
Sub-humans. People to be thrown in the volcano with Kobe.
Sat Aug 16, 2008 9:28 pm
Well it's good you look down on people like that.
Sat Aug 16, 2008 9:31 pm
Well, really, it is benefiting those who chose the lowest form of english, journalism, to die in a molten pit.
Sat Aug 16, 2008 9:33 pm
You sure you don't want to elaborate on it anymore?
Sat Aug 16, 2008 9:39 pm
I could, but I doubt I'm that interesting to anyone beyond you.
Sun Aug 17, 2008 12:09 am
lies, i find you endlessly interesting

Fuck it, I agree with benji.
That's the same as athletics though, how many running events are there?
The 100m race is totally different from the marathons. Maybe if they start adding 150m, 250m, etc, races then Bolt would be the greatest athlete ever
And BTW, is it just me or Phelps looks a lot like Carlos Tevez?
Sun Aug 17, 2008 8:48 am
Carlos Tevez
Michael Phelps
I personally don't see the resemblance. 7 down, 1 left to go. Let's see if he can pull it off.

The latest whinge from many Aussies is that Phelps didn't actually touch the wall before the Serbia....I laughed when they tried to argue it....but they were adamant & no video proof would change their minds otherwise....tall poppy syndrome I guess....
Sun Aug 17, 2008 11:20 am
I heard that too. It's shameful, all these accusations and whinging is more unsportsmanlike than anything Phelps has been accused of doing.
Sun Aug 17, 2008 12:58 pm
Michael Phelps has done it. His team just won the 4x100 Medley Relay. Yes in World Record Time. Congrats Michael Phelps, 8 Medals at the Beijing Olympics.
Sun Aug 17, 2008 1:02 pm
Well Aussies and Japanese had a chance but the last guy pulled away.
Best swimmer, give him that but no more.

A tremendous accomplishment. Let the whingers whinge, he set the bar high and he achieved his goal in impressive style.
Sun Aug 17, 2008 3:04 pm

Great for him, and everyone who's alive to see this.
Is there a way for someone to get 9 medals?
Sun Aug 17, 2008 3:13 pm
Drex is not just you i feel the same about Tevez...
Mouth and teeth are really similar haha
Congratulations to Phelps for this achievement...anyway i agree with some of you guys- its not fair you can get 8 medals only for swimming while there are others sports you can get just 1

I assume so, they'd just need to enter at least nine events.

I can see where you and other people are coming from on that one but I don't see how it's unfair or any less of an accomplishment. A racing event lends itself to variations in distance and competitive swimming entails different forms of stroke and then you've got a relay format on top of that. You may be great over long distance or in one particular stroke or you may only have the endurance to win shorter races but it takes a well rounded athlete to be able to succeed in several events.
