Other video games, TV shows, movies, general chit-chat...this is an all-purpose off-topic board where you can talk about anything that doesn't have its own dedicated section.

My quirk with the demo stuff I saw on youtube as well as the previous trailers is that the movement on standup is quite jerky and it seems like the players are static when they just remain standing. No breathing animations whatsoever. At least as far as I can tell.
Tue Apr 21, 2009 12:44 pm
They're concentrating on the fight, why bother breathing. Intensity, yea.

The start of the first video there is sick, looked so real with the timing of the take-down dodging the punch.
2 more days, hurry up already

lol

Can't wait untill tomorrow
Thu Apr 23, 2009 7:59 pm

Silvers can't download the demo? Damn, can't try it on my roommates 360 then.
Fri Apr 24, 2009 3:11 pm
Not yet, we have to wait a week for it to be available.
Fri Apr 24, 2009 4:40 pm
Downloaded it today when I woke up and it is unbelieveable despite a few things they could fix like at times (and I do mean at times) the punches not actually landing for a KO but hopefully this will be addressed. There's a very in-depth tutorial as well which is great because there are so many different controls for different situations but you will get used to it after a while. All in all very happy with the demo and can't wait to get my hands on the final game when it is released.
Fri Apr 24, 2009 8:54 pm
Oh DARn! I wish they release this on PC too. I wonder if GSP, BJ Penn, Anderson Silva, Brock, Wanderlei, Norifumi, etc are all gonna be there!
Fri Apr 24, 2009 9:22 pm
well the full roster was released
I played it a bit yesterday and had a blast with the standup game. No tutorials, just jumped in with Chuck and just started punching and kicking. The blocking in the game was very satisfying to me since it's realistic like FNr4, same with the KOs.
Somehow I did a spinning backhand, that was sicko, but it looks fun.
Fri Apr 24, 2009 10:59 pm
zanshadow read up next time buzzy already posted a link to the full roster.

http://www.gamespot.com/sports/blogs/sp ... rview.html The full roster has been revealed. I don't know many, but Couture is the only UFC fighter I'm suprised they didn't include.
Still, 82 fighters sounds very nice, this should be fun.

Yeah, I just didnt want to go out there and get knocked out straight away aha, but the ground game is sweet can change the fight within a second.
I love when you knock him down and just start piling on the hits, with him being helpless to do anything.

Who? Kid Yamamoto? Why would he be in it? He's not a UFC fighter.
Sat Apr 25, 2009 6:04 am
Yup, but he signed with UFC lately along with Yoshihiro Akiyama. Anyways, this game looks amazing. 80 fighters with big names? Perfect game for fanboys.
Sat Apr 25, 2009 2:19 pm
Where'd you here that? As far as I know, Akiyama's the only one confirmed. Kid's still fighting in DREAM, I think. Either way, they wouldn't be included in the game on time.
Mon Apr 27, 2009 2:05 am
I downloaded the demo on the PC and burnt it, and I'm currently playing the bejesus out of it. Can't wait for the final game.
Sat May 02, 2009 6:28 am
I've been playing the hell out of the demo. Can't wait to bust out some major knee strikes with Wanderlei Silva.
Sat May 02, 2009 10:44 pm
Seems like this game is being hyped as potential "sports game of the year" by different reviewers
Sun May 03, 2009 6:49 pm
I'm imperessed of demo,it's really good

.Waiting for final release

.

played through the tutorial this time and man, this game might just become a day one buy
got the guy bloody, got him on the ground and just pounded him for over a minute with weak punches, spraying his blood all over the mat
when I finally KO'd in him the 2nd he landed in the pool that was left, sweet

Yeah my bad, it was an article that Norifumi wanting to fight in UFC not that he signed or anything. Meh... maybe they will include Akiyama in next one. Sylva vs him would be a dream match.

played the demo. fucking amazing.
some improvements are needed for next installment, yes that has been confirmed.... this game will be updated yearly.
anyways,
using the cage, as in pushing the other guy into the cage and trying to take them down, using it to switch positions, using the cage to hold them in place as you pummel them in the face... that sort of thing.
the ability to plant your feet and just move your fighter at the waist, bobbing and weaving... the ability to throw punched and kicks while doing this.
more control over the strikes. currently the computer ai dictates what strike you throw by distance and whether you are stepping to the sides, forward or back.
i would rather see the face buttons used for punches or kicks based on whether you are pulling a trigger(modifier) with the power, not the technique dictated by whether you are planted, and turning your hips into the punch, lunging, or stepping. think fight night controls
x jab
y cross
a left hook
b right hook
x+a left uppercut
Y+b right uppercut
high and low punched determined by rotating the stick with your feet planted, again, think fight night.
use the d- pad to throw elbows
bumpers give you special moves, unique to your fighter
with a trigger (modifier) the face buttons become kicks
x roundhouse kick with lead leg
y roundhouse kick with rear leg
a side kick with lead leg
b front kick with rear leg
x+a left knee
y+b right knee
the height and power of these kicks determined determined the same way as with punching, by body lean, whether fighter is moving or planted
more styles, or combination of styles
all of these moves should look different for each fighter due to the differences in their base styles
currently there are 3 stand up styles (the most commonly used in the ufc)
boxing
kickboxing
muay thia
lets add traditional styles such as...
karate (Loyoto Machida anyone? )what if i want my created fighter to be Chuck Norris?
tae kwon do
kung fu
jeet kune do cuz i want to be BRUCE motherfucking LEE!
what about... mixing the striking styles? this is MMA afterall...
there are 3 ground styles currently avialable
wrestling
jujitsu
judo
what about
sambo?
greco roman wrestling?
or give the player the option when creating a fighter to use more than one stand up / ground style at a time.
also, bring in each fighter for mo-cap. the holes in each fighter's styles are easier to see this way.. such as...does he drop his hands when he throws a kick?
with mo-cap, each fighter's speed can be measured (just have every fighter throw one of each basic technique and measure the speed)
power, (have each fighter do each strike on a dummy wired with sensors so the damage can be accurately measured)
that being said, i think this series is off to a great start, it just needs a little more user friendly control and more variety
im afraid to many fighters are going to be carbon copies of other guys, with different stats....

Surprised no one's talked about this game since it's been out for a while. Anyone got the game? share your thoughts on it. I got the game the day of the release and it's been a pretty good game although things like career mode get abit too repetitive, but I guess you can't expect too much variety in a fighters life. One of my main dissapointments is that online is abit too laggy at times and can make the fight very "dumb".
All in all a solid game for the return of MMA to the gaming world.
Sat Jun 13, 2009 3:51 am
I love it, but I found in career mode it's a bit too easy to win.. even on advanced, you can pretty much submit anyone if your rating is over 50. I was 9-1 with 9 subs with my new guy and his submission rating was like 45 for the most part.
