SNES

I started playing SNES by the age of 8 and actually never stopped, even nowadays I still love to play.

Image

Street Fighter Alpha 2 is my favorite, definitely the best graphic a SNES game has ever seen.

ImageImage

My favorite Marios are Mario 3 and Super Marios World. I also loved Yoshis Island and as I have Mario All Star .. the others aint too bad either.

ImageImage

International Superstar Soccer (ISS) Deluxe was maybe the game I spent most of the time with. It was the first really good Soccer game and is kind of the precursor of PES.

I also loved games like Mario Kart, Micky Mouse Adventures, Aladdin or F-Zero

PC

Honestly I dont know where to start. So these are in no particular order.

Image

Anstoss 3 is a german Soccer manager series. And it was pretty awesome. The 3d mode was on of the first that really worked out. But the game had several bugs. All in all it was so much fun to play a whole manager career with different clubs and stuff. I prefer EAs FM nowadays, but this is also because the executive chief of the game is the same one who invented Anstoss. (Anstoss means "kick off" in German)

ImageImage

Diablo II LOD is on of the best games I have ever played in case of not having a great graphic and presentation and still making me playing it nowadays. This game is awesome, making you addicted in collecting items and trying new variations of characters. Love it.

ImageImage

Warcraft III TFT is definitely the PC game I have played mostly. The best multiplayer game that has ever been made. And RTS which required understanding and micromanagement. The ladder mode was so motivating. Hell I even repeated class the year I played this game. Just awesome.

ImageImage

NBA live: I started with the 98 series which was pretty weak but I really loved it. As a lil child with no idea of the NBA it really aroused my interest. Hell, this is why I love the NBA and basketball today. 2000 was definitely the best NBA live considering when it was done. 2005 was my 2nd favorite. Since I have a ps3 I know prefer the 2k series. But I wont forget what this game meant to me then ;)

ImageImage

GTA is also a game that has always amazed me. Being free and being able to do what you want in a city was always appealing to me. GTA 2 was the first GTA that really got me. I did not play GTA III really often since my CPU just wasnt good enough. But I loved Vice City and SA. Got GTA IV just 5 days ago for my ps3 and its just so cool. The idea of the whole game is just ingenious.

ImageImage

FIFA and PES: I only liked FIFA 98. I can remember when I got this was for Christmas and played against my brother for two hours this night. Just a great game. The other FIFAs never reached the excitement of 98. After some disappointing FIFA games I started with Pro Evo 3. And until now every Pro Evo got better and this series is the best soccer series.

ImageImage

Did anybody play this game ? Jagged Alliance 2 is so nice. Never played another game in which I started loving my characters so much. You really get sad when someone of your troop dies. And you do your best that this doesnt happen. Also a game that gives you great freedom in how to play.

Other games I loved to play: Hitman: great, you dont need to kill anyone except your target person. Its like a puzzle where you have to put together each stone perfectly to absolve the mission with a perfect grad. I remember one night with a friend we were doing a mission but had to kill too many people and decided to complete it perfectly .. it took us 2 hours and 20 attempts until we really knew how to stay undercover.

Max Payne: I dont like shooters, but this game really managed to get me hooked on. Thats also because it is quite easy ^^ if you just can slow mo everything. Very nice though.

Age Of Empires: Strange that nobody has mentioned it. The best game when it comes to having huge emperial fights. Funny with its economic part, too.

Sooo many games .. I must be a Nerd ... actually now I think about being one ^^ I did not before.

Great thread. I'm at work so I can't so much get pictures and such. I'm going to split it into pc/console with a copy of the terms that I believe Benji used, "True Greats" and "Honorable Mentions", for my lack of being able to think of better terms. I'll also toss in a "Favorites of mine that in no way deserve to be called a masterpiece but I really enjoyed" because I love making lists... nerd.

"True Greats"
_________________________
PC:
World of Warcraft - Say what you will about people playing it way too much, getting too much into it, etc- I would agree with you, but there's no denying that this is an excellent product. I had tons of fun during my time playing this game.

SimCity 2000 - So many hours of my life spent building cities. Not a diss on the original SimCity, as I spent tons of time playing that one too, but 2000 'took the cake' for me. I can't speak for 3000 or 4, never played anything newer than 2000. Classic gaming- can be mindless or engrossing; it's your choice.

Console:
Tetris (Game Boy)- It's Tetris.

Super Mario World (SNES)

Mario Kart Wii (Wii)- Best of the series. No need to elaborate.

Donkey Kong Country (SNES)- Whenever I play this game, I honestly have to ask myself if it is actually a better game than Mario. I think it might be.

Donkey Kong Country 2 (SNES)- Graphical improvements over the first, and it's a 100% awesome game... I prefer the original, but just barely.

Wario's Woods (NES)- One of the most underrated (if not nearly unknown) games, in my opinion. This is one of those games that you start playing and then don't realize it's suddenly 3AM. I think they brought it out for download on Wii recently, it's definitely worth the price if you enjoy puzzle games at all.

"Honorable Mentions"
_________________________
PC:
Duke Nukem 3D, The Sims 2, Zoo Tycoon 2

Console:
Wii Fit (Wii) - I put this in the "Honorable Mentions" section rather than "True Greats" only because it's hard to call it a game.
Rock Band (XBOX360)
Mass Effect (XBOX360)
Earthbound (SNES)
Sonic the Hedgehog 2 (Genesis/XBOX Live Arcade)
TLO Zelda: Twilight Princess (Wii)
Super Mario Bros 3 (NES)
Super Mario Bros (NES)
Mario Kart DS (DS)

How could I forget Jazz Jackrabbit? Especially with its soundtrack, oozing with 90s charm.

Mon Jun 09, 2008 10:26 am

hey nice to see another Jagged Alliance fan here. I loved JA2 as well. i downloaded a mod for it to change it up a little to give it a new flavor.

I would have to agree that Simcity 2000 was the best of the series. the versatility in the game was great. My version came with Simcity Urban Renewal kit which allowed to to edit the buildings. I was never successful enough to earn the bigger rewards without cheating though. i was disappointed i tihnk the best reward i got was a city hall.

Mon Jun 09, 2008 10:50 am

I could never get into SimCity, though LucasArts made a clone called Afterlife (where you managed Heaven and Hell) which I was moderately successful at.

lol james pond, never thought i would hear about that game again

Mon Jun 09, 2008 10:51 pm

Forgot to mention Diablo II, one of the most celebrated video game sequels of all time. Plus it had so much hype that it made me fail to pass several high school projects because of the addiction of playing it.

The Hitman series, too, though I only played Silent Assassin and Blood Money. The game has challenged me not to do the "aggressive" option of finishing a mission or killing a target.

I played it not that long ago since I found a Risc OS emulator that runs the Acorn disks on a PC. The performance isn't so great though, loading times are horrendous.

Crash Bandicoot - My first ever video game experience, loved that game.
NBA Live 97 - First basketball game, loved the insane half-time show intro. Because of this game, i wanted to play basketball.
Tekken 3 - Best Fighting game for me.

More soon.....

Tue Jun 10, 2008 2:10 am

No Croc fans? That was my favourite videogame when I was younger.
Too bad I lost the CD

Tue Jun 10, 2008 2:59 am

NBA Live 2004 - I used to shit on everyone with that overly powerful pro hop.

Star Craft - Theres a reason why its still a thriving game. Epically amazing strat game.

Oregon Trail - One of the first games I played.

Day of Defeat 1.3 - The only game I still play.

Golden Eye - I was bad at this game but it was always fun going to a friends house to play.

Super Smash Bros - See Golden Eye.

Defender of the Crown (NES)
Image

Turn-based medieval strategy/RPG game with action elements including jousting, swordfighting and archery. One of the first NES games I ever finished one Sunday afternoon.

Tue Jun 10, 2008 8:01 am

Ugh, how could I forget Chrono Trigger and Final Fantasy II? I loved those games as well.

Tue Jun 10, 2008 11:18 am

I can't believe I forgot about Contra!

One of the first side-scrollers I've ever played (Y) (Y)

Madden 95 (mega drive)
Image
When I first got this game I had no idea how to play. I ended up just doing QB draws until a mate from school showed me how to pass and we became an unstoppable duo with him being the WR and me being the QB. The joys of childhood :)

NBA JAM TE (Mega Drive)
Image
I remember getting this game for a bargain of $25 and I played it to death. This was the first game I could actually beat my older brother consistently at.

NBA Live 98 (psx)
Image
When I first got my playstation, the first game I got was NBA live 98. The next game I got was Live 99. That was a period of 9 or 10 months of Live 98 playing that were great memories. 10 years later, the series has never caught upto the level of presentation that was in live 98. I also played Live 99, 2000 on the psx.

Virtua Tennis (Dreamcast)
Image
I originally bought my Dreamcast just to play NBA and NFL 2k1, and also Sonic, but when Virtua Tennis quickly became my most played game on a console thats biggest problem was it was so far ahead of its time that it would ultimately lead to its demise.
Madden 2001 (ps2)
Image
The first game for my ps2 was Madden 2001 because that's why I wanted to get a ps2. If Madden was on the Dreamcast I probably wouldn't have even have purchased a ps2 for a quite a while afterwoods. But this was a good thing as the ps2 would turn out to be, in my opinion, the best video game console in history. I also played Madden 2003 alot as well and had some great battles with my late great friend Tim. R.I.P. brother.

NBA Live 2002 (ps2)
Image
The first game of the series that had franchise mode for the console. I pre ordered this game but due to some serious gameplay issues (offensive rebounding) I was disappointed at first but grew to love this game. I remember waking up early to play a game of Live before driving to school. This game actually helped me cope with the stress of moving homes as well and it's a game I'll never trade in or sell.

Red Faction (ps2)
Image
Image
Like Live 2002, I was so disappointed with this game when I first got it. Not because it was bad, but because I had never played a fps before. But once I figured out how to use the controls, this game became my favourite. My mate Scott would come around and we'd just deck the bots in splitscreen deathmatch. I still play this game on the ps3, and thats what? 7 years after I first got it.

NBA Inside Drive 2002(XBOX)
Image
I bought an Xbox just to play this game, and this was a good game. It lacked on modes (just season, playoff and exhibition) but I did a full season with Jordan and the Wizards and enjoyed every minute of this game.

NFL 2K4 (Xbox)
One of my favourite games on the Xbox, I did a full season with the Vikings and enjoyed it so much I took my xbox with me on an end of season Rugby League holiday to continue playing this. Great memories and a great game.

Halo 2

Image
(thats actually footage of me )
I remember getting this game in 2004 and not stopping playing it until my eyes began to hurt about 10 hours after. I played this game so much that I bought an xbox 360 in anticipation of its sequel. This game redefined multiplayer games on consoles and set a standard that only now is being matched in todays games. A masterpiece.

Gears of War
Image
(thats me again :proud:)
I bought a 360 for halo 3, but Gears of war was one of those unexpected surprises that you can't even hope for. The amount of friends I made playing this game is why it's my hall of fame. I still play this game a bit with those same friends I made before. If only the MP wasn't so rushed, this might of been the best game on this console.

Halo 3
Image
While it wasn't as groundbreaking as some of the other games I've played, this is my favourite game. Is it the best? No. But I can acknowledge it for how good it is. This what I play the most still and there (probably) won't be a Halo 4, so unless Red Faction is released in this generation of games I can't see myself not playing this for a long long time.

Uncharted: Drakes Fortune (ps3)
Image
I got a ps3 last christmas and along with it I got Uncharted. What a game this is! For a long time, this was the only game I would play on the ps3. But the storyline plus the good gameplay made this one of my favourites.

GTA4 (Xbox 360)
Image
As I've said before, this is not my favourite game, but I think it's the best game I've ever played. They storyline is second to none. The gameplay is great. The graphics are great. The sounds are amazing. The multiplayer is good. It's a work of art and I probably won't stop playing until the next gta4 clone comes out (not saints row 2, I'm talking about the vice city equivalent)

Thu Jun 12, 2008 10:27 pm

I got NBA Live 2002 for PS2....it was actually the reason I got the PS2, as I was at uni, didn't have a PC, & eagerly awaited the game....I too pre-ordered it too, I just wanted it for franchise mode....game did disappoint me though....I definitely preferred Live '98 (& to a lesser extent Live '99) on PC over that version....

I forgot a few other games:

Fifa '95 or '96 (can't remember) on Sega Mega Drive - played a Premier League season against my brother's mate. I think he was Arsenal & I was Liverpool. Good times.

International Cricket on NES - haven't played as fun a cricket game since.

Madden '01 (on PS2) - definitely some great battles against mates.

Fri Jun 13, 2008 3:48 am

NBA Live 2002 was also one of the reasons I ended up getting a PS2. At the time I wasn't really interested in getting another console but with Live 2002 being console only and a couple of other titles piquing my interest I relented.

Fri Jun 13, 2008 9:43 am

Never played Live 2002 though, but from what I saw in the screen above, are the shoes in 2002 branded like the NBA Live's we have now?

Good to see that the Baldur's Gate series made it to one list. (Y) I forgot to mention it alongside the Fallout series (including Tactics) and Neverwinter Nights.

Fri Jun 13, 2008 10:44 am

Someone else has and likes NBA Inside Drive 2002? Awesome. That was my first NBA video game.

Yes. I do well actually had... Lost it a long time ago when I moved. Anyways, it was a great game! Can't believe I forgot to put it up there. That game was so much fun and it's the sole reason why I started liking basketball

I think there might have been a few, or at least designs that resembled signature shoes.

Forgot a few ones,

Pacman

Image

I dont know what platform is this game is but it was one of those games that get me play hours and hours non-stop. I remember getting some powerups only to be eaten by some ghosts.

Starcraft - one of the first strategy game or maybe next to red alert. I remember owning at this game for a while.

Dreamcast- even if it not a game it's still worth mentioning for me. One of the consoles that i have played. Love the 4 player controllers even the games. Even though i dont own a Dreamcast

Sun Jun 15, 2008 12:08 am

:|

So you might have played Shenmue?

Sun Jun 15, 2008 4:24 am

if you liked Shenmue, there's a similar game on PS2 called Yakuza which was freaking amazing. one of my favories on PS2.

Epic Pinball (PC)
Image

All the fun of pinball without the expense and from the comfort of your home.

Gazillionaire (PC)
Image

Can't believe I left this one out until now. A very addictive turn-based strategy game where you assume control of a company and try to turn a profit as you trade goods and ferry passengers between fictional planets. The best part is that even though at first glance it looks "kiddie", it's not really aimed at young gamers. It also has an "online" multiplayer mode of sorts since it has an email game option where you complete your turn, save the game and email it to the next player and then they do the same.
