That's actually really good advice. I might delve into that and see what i come up with.
We plan to cover 'Go with the flow' by qotsa and 'Paranoid Android', so off the top of my head already that gives me my first decent suggestion - The Paranoid Flow.
Whatever.
I'd probably need to know more about you & your band....
Ok, my biggest influences, in no particular order, seem to be:
Queens Of The Stone Age
Rage Against The Machine
Muse
The Mars Volta
Radiohead
Elliott Smith
System Of A Down
Incubus (of old)
while drawing mild influence from:
At The Drive In
Jeff Buckley
The Beatles (obviously, who doesn't)
Karnivool
Red Hot Chili Peppers (of old)
Foo Fighters
Tool
Mr Bungle
Silverchair (yes, including their new stuff)
Led Zepplin
Err yeah i'll stop there.
My singer(/musical partner)'s list would be similar. (we went to the same high school and live in the same house)
My guitarist likes all sorts of music.
And the bassist likes metal.
Anyway, hope that puts it more into perspective.
My favourite names so far are Bombsquito, Paper Cars and Finding WallyD Stats
Sub Bug
Primacy Bug
Career Package

The Nick Barnsey Experience.
Our old/current name wasn't too far from that kind of thing, haha.
We were 'Nick And The Beavertown Band'
No shit.
considering RATM is a big influence (I luv them), Bombsquito might be alright....has a ring to it, rolls off the tongue & you can make it a play of words at times....but yeah, either way, good luck with name hunt....

Well, it worked for the Barenaked Ladies. They sure had me fooled when I was a kid.

Yo, just dropping in to say we decided on a name...

Heh.

That almost sounds like a music genre, but why not...
*so what kind of stuff do you guys play?
- were're mostly into beavercore*
Tue Nov 13, 2007 12:47 pm
I'd pick Beaver Score. "Score" has two meanings. A musical composition and achievement. I'm sure there's a third meaning, but my head's out of the gutter right now.
Tue Nov 13, 2007 12:54 pm
Would that third meaning be a quantity of twenty of something?
Wed Nov 14, 2007 1:05 pm
And of course the fourth meaning...

Hey guys, if any of you are interested in actually hearing this band you were trying to name, i finally put some songs up.
They are recordings from our gig last night (of about 10 people in the crowd - who were all our friends anyway
Hahaha we suck). Anyway the quality isn't perfect and we fuck up every now and then, but oh well it's better than no songs at all.
Anyway, let me know what you think! These songs are so heavily imprinted in my brain (i write most of the music), that it's hard to imagine what it would sound like to an outsider.

I like Mundane Again. Very nice composition to it. Your singer sounds whiny to me, and he should take some lessons so he can get on-key better.
Fri Nov 30, 2007 9:55 am
The band is great, I like it. The singer though.... It'd sound cool if he sang in a higher voice maybe. Great Band though I like it.

I only listened to Mundane Again, the start was a bit off for my liking, but I think that was due to the singer, not the composition or lyrics....but as the song went along, it definitely got a lot better....I think even the singer got slightly better....maybe the singer warmed up during song or got to the right key, who knows....but I liked the instrumental side of song

Hold auditions to replace the singer. Problem solved. Stardom, here comes Beavercore!
Sat Dec 01, 2007 3:43 pm
It almost has a sort of Radiohead feel, and I'm expecting some guy with a cool high voice, then the singer comes in. If the singer changes, the band is going to be awesome.
Sat Dec 01, 2007 5:39 pm
tough dilemma for Beaver then
Sat Dec 01, 2007 5:46 pm
Just consider the soon to be former singer as a casualty, like the "fifth Beatle".
Sun Dec 02, 2007 12:20 pm
But...but...the singer is one of my closest mates and house-mate.
I can't just kick him out.
Plus i like his voice. I think it's good. It's unique. It's deeper, which gives us a different sound than other bands, which is a good thing.
Also, band vibe is very important, and jordan adds a great vibe to the band, plus we have good chemistry.
I like all these honest opinions. It's really good to know what's good and what's bad. I know the songs so well that i can't even imagine hearing it for the first time again. Keep them coming if there's any more. But I think maybe the live recording isn't quite doing him justice. Maybe when we record professionally recorded demo tracks, his voice might have more clarity, and be better to listen to.
We'll see.
Sun Dec 02, 2007 12:46 pm
As long as it's not so deep and whiny, I think it's going to be a great band.
Sun Dec 02, 2007 5:52 pm
How the heck do you expect your live albums to sell if his live recording voice isn't good.
Maybe he knows how to play another instrument. Let him play that instrument in the band and then get a new singer, that way he'll still be part of the band.

Well, if we were to the point where we're selling albums of live shows, i'm sure the equipment quality and mixing levels would be much better.
Sun Dec 02, 2007 8:06 pm
An artiste doesn't blame or depend on his equipment.
