Nothing's wrong. I just want to know what the hell it means.

Mon Sep 03, 2007 2:34 am

1.Gotham City - R.Kelly
2.I Found My Smile Again - D'Angelo
3.Bittersweet - Kanye West
4.The People - Common
5.Same Girl - R.Kelly ft. Usher
6.Ignition (Remix) - R.Kelly
7.Faithful - Common
8.The World's Greatest - R.Kelly
9.Your Body's Callin' - R. Kelly
10.Be - Common

I bought a new computer, a MacBook, like a month ago, and R.Kelly's Greatest Hits have been running a lot.

Mon Sep 03, 2007 5:16 am

Faithful by Common, nice. John Legend does the background on that song, and any song with John Legend is good in my book.

Anyway, my list.... Well seeing as how its tainted by shifts in music taste, and about 25 of the top 30 I no longer have, I'll post the top ten of songs I still actually have and for the most part listen to.

1. Harmonize - John Forte
2. You Should Be Mine - Brian McKnight & Mase
3. Tired of Being Alone - Al Green
4. P.D.A. - John Legend
5. Like That - Black Eyed Peas
6. Baggage - Mary J. Blige
7. You Are - Bilal
8. MJ MVP - Mary J. Blige
9. Blister in the Sun - Violent Femmes
10. No Suprises - Radiohead

Seeing as how I don't really listen to that much Mary J. Blige these days, It'd be more fitting to insert Block Party by Will Smith (yes Will Smith bitches) and Heaven by John Legend.

Anyway, its weird how much I listened to so many songs I don't even have anymore.

Mon Sep 03, 2007 5:30 am

1. Nine Inch Nails - Only
2. Tool - The Pot
3. Red Hot Chili Peppers - Shallow Be Thy Game
4. Incubus - Neither of us Can See
5. Red Hot Chili Peppers - The Zephyr Song
6. Tool - Prison Sex
7. Interpol - Heinrich Maneuver
8. Black Rebel Motorcycle Club - Weapon of Choice
9. Queens of the Stoneage - In My Head
10. Nine Inch Nails - Survivalism

I probably listen to a lot more of 70s-80s disco/funk music... But you guys probably wouldn't even want to know that list....

Thu Sep 06, 2007 2:08 pm

1. Nine Inch Nails - Only
2. Tool - The Pot
6. Tool - Prison Sex

Some of my favorite songs. Prison Sex is one of my favorite Tool songs and imo has one of the greatest begginnings of any of their songs. I like your taste. (Y)

LMAO.

I just saw that. That made me laugh hard.

You know I only found out recently I didn't have a Chinese Language Pack installed and that's why I couldn't read alot of things on the internet, like the 07 announcements section.

Anyway I might as well chuck Kanye West's entire album up on my list. Graduation is awesome, only song I don't really like is "Drunk and Hot Girls" and "Barry Bonds" - I hate Lil Wayne.

EDIT:

At first I thought you were saying I was gay for complimenting his music taste and then I realized that you had Prison Sex in bold. I almost wrote an angry reply. Anyways, that was grossest thing I've ever heard.

I have 3 songs from before 1990 on my list unless i'm mistaken..Joe' has a few....remember, it is mostly kids on this board.

Anyway, like i said, most of my music i truly listen to isnt on there. I've been on a huge Cure kick lately. Not sure why.

Those are only a few of the artists that I listen to. I guess you can consider that list "out of date" since I listen to way more artists than that. I've been listening to more energetic garage/indie rock lately like the Strokes, Kaiser Chiefs, Wolfmother (although not really in the garage/indie genre), Interpol and Arctic Monkeys which are all fairly new, but I don't see what's wrong with listening to some more recent songs.

By the way, don't worry about Shannon. He's just jealous because Gundy can toss salad better than he can.

Since there's much much better than any of that nowadays, no need to waste my time on overheard oldies.

As I said, I just reinstalled iTunes about two weeks ago and the Top 10 just came off inaccurate.

Six out of ten songs on my (inaccurate) list are from before 1990 anyway, including my most listened song, which was actually released in 1968. And the rest of the songs are actually from the first half of the 90's (except for 'This Velvet Glove' which was released in 1999).

However, my "real" Top 10 would probably include at most two songs released after 1990.

I very much disagree. Music in general was a zillion times better in the past decades than it is right now.

Every song made before the mid-1970's was actually made using things called musical instruments. Today, a big portion of the active artists don't use musical instruments to make their songs and some don't even sing.

Most of the new artists that still use musical instruments (which by the way are made of way lower quality materials than, say, thirty years ago, leading to a lower sound quality), are way more interested in getting featured on Rolling Stone than they are in making good songs.

Which leaves me to my conclusion: Today, a good 80% of the music that is actually worth listening to, comes from artists that have been active for at least ten years.

The phrase "overheard oldies" makes me think you just listen to songs that are released as singles and get radio playtime.
The Beatles didn't just release 'Yesterday' on 'Help'. There's another 13 songs on that album, you know.

Anyway, it's still much better to listen to "overheard oldies" than to listen to most of the stuff that comes out nowadays.

I would imagine the reason most peoples current top 10 is newer music is because stuff from before 1990 has obviously been around longer and probably played to death.

I can understand when people feel like old music is better than today (and I partially agree; it seems like the crap factories been churning out a lot more piece of shit lately), but I don't like it when people feel that their musical tastes are superior when they listen to the Beatles or the Doors or something.

Fri Sep 07, 2007 9:02 am

Yeah that shits me, Radiohead fans can be a bit like that aswell (though I like the band). Actually, "Bands/singers with pretentious dicks for fans" could be a topic on it's own.

Fri Sep 07, 2007 9:07 am

Tell me about it. I'm a Tool fan, but I just can't stand the amount of people on Manyard James Keenan's dick. I can't stand looking at a Tool music video on youtube because I'm scared that I might accidentally scroll down and see "WOW HES THE GREATEST MUSICIAN EVER!" or soemone trying to be a smart-ass twat by saying something like "his lyrical writing capabilities and the emotional depth that he utilizes while singing transcends any other singer by far" or some stupid shit like that. It's music. Just listen and like it.

Fri Sep 07, 2007 10:35 am

Those were far and away the most played.

I find music from my lifetime unlistenable under most circumstances, unless the talent of the musician(s) is enough to offset the atrocious recording practices of the last 30 years.

Yeah, Maynard's got quite a following of fans that would buy his shit if he put it up for sale. I love Tool and I think MJK is a genius but I'm not about to say that their music has changed me as a person like like some of the "tools" at toolnavy.com.

I don't know if you were referring to my post but here goes:

I never said and I don't feel my musical taste is superior because I listen to the Beatles (I actually don't listen to them that much but whatever), I just think that, today, Rock music and music in general isn't as good as it was in the second half of the twentieth century.
