Yuck, Phoenix? I can't stand Phoenix. Way, way too hot during the day, and then freezing balls ass cold at night. Really annoying. Not to mention the heat isn't a good heat either. Its extremely humid and you sweat all the time. Also all the food sucks, except for the Mexican food. There is great Mexican food there.

If you actually want to move to the Southwest, I would look in to Albuquerque, New Mexico. Shockingly beautifull, and a great place to be. Increidble food, great people, much nicer weather, and there is actually stuff to do unlike in Phoenix.

I actually don't see anything special in the whole Southwest (except for some towns in eastern Texas.)
I wouldn't like to live in a place that has unstable temperatures and poor precipitations.
For me, towns like Phoenix are just a bunch of buildings in the middle of the desert. I don't know why people are so "wow" about them.
I prefer way better cities in the Pacific North and the Great Lakes area, and also some cities fro-m the Atlantic coast, but it's just my opinion.

Here's my Top 5 US Cities I'd like to live in:

- Portland, Oregon (Great, stable weather, incredible landscapes, great geographical position, no sales taxes. What more can you ask?)
- Seattle, Washington (Same as Portland, except for the taxes)
- Minneapolis, Minnesota (I just love the Great Lakes region. Minneapolis is close to Wisconsin, Illinois and Indiana but at the same time isn't as messy as cities such as Milwaukee, Chicago or Indianapolis)
- New York City, New York (Well, everyone loves New York. It's the world's capital and most famous city. I don't really like immense cities but I can do an exception for NYC)
- Boston, Massachusetts (One of the most beautiful cities in the Atlantic coast IMO. In Boston, you have the best from the Old and the New World, combining old, British-style buildings, with tall skyscrapers)

Top 5 Influential Musical Artists/Bands of All Time
1. Beatles-the first band to go from pop to legitimate music, and writing their own amazing stuff while on LSD became an often imitated but never duplicated act
2. Rolling Stones
Rock and Roll would not be the same without them, they gave the Rock world edge past elvis gyrations
3. Elvis Presley
Speaking of the gyration machine, He was the first to take "black" music and market it to the whites, and made tons of money while at it. Without him, i dont think the likes of Eminem or anyone similar would've made it
4. Nirvana-Defined Rock for about 10 years till the indie fad started
5. Bob Marley-Made it ok for artists to be political to stand up for whats right

Top 5 Disappointments (various forms of media, and anyone whos seen/touched any of these will understand)
1. Matrix 3
2. Tony Hawk Underground 2
3. NBA Live '07
4. Sega selling out and making Shenmue an XBOX exclusive game
5.Spiderman 3

Top 5 posters (no particular order)
1. H0rt-some of you may think he rules too strictly, but the reason i keep coming back to this forum is its patrolled well, and while all the mods do their jobs excellently, i have yet to disagree with a decision of his.
2. Andrew-helpful, even to assholes, and the site wouldnt run without him
3. Indy-Like alot of people have said, a guy you just feel like you could hang with. I've yet to see a true spam post from him (at least if it was spam it made me laugh so it was ok). Also stands by his convictions even when attacked and i like that in people
4. Benji-I may not agree with him, but me and him can get into true debate without stooping to the "you fucking republican, you fucking commie" argument. It takes skill to do and like I said, i still dont agree, but i respect him for it
5. pistons_rock....JUST KIDDING! the last spot goes to *drum roll* Cyanide. Always well thought out posts and usually can give me at least one good laugh with his cynicism (that is eerily similar to mine and often times he beats me to the punch on what needs to be said)
Congrats....feel honored....

Its extremely humid and you sweat all the time.

On every single website I have checked, people have said the desert heat is not humid and that your sweat actually evaporates very quickly so you don't walk round all wet. They said there are a couple months that are humid, but it's nothing too bad. Even people that knock Phoenix about the heat say "I know its not humid, but [insert temp here] is uncomfortable humid or not".

I'm seriously considering moving there, I know I want to move somewhere in the US as soon as I have enough money and finish my uni education, and right now Phoenix is the obvious choice for me based on others opinions. I get put off most of the big cities by their living costs and weather.

If you actually want to move to the Southwest, I would look in to Albuquerque, New Mexico. Shockingly beautifull, and a great place to be. Increidble food, great people, much nicer weather, and there is actually stuff to do unlike in Phoenix.

From what I've been reading, Phoenix > Albuquerque. Plus Phoenix is alot bigger and I wanna live in a big city.

By the way, that list was "realistically speaking". Otherwise there LA, NYC, etc. would be at the very top no matter how expensive they were.

Interesting opinion, even though I disagree to a fair extent, so here's:

Ty's Top 5 Musical Influences of All Time
1. The Beatles Constantly evolved, experimented and remained relevant for the bands existence. So many great, great songs. Album tracks that are more well known than singles. Released 9 albums in as many years. The measuring stick to all other musicians success.

2. Led Zeppelin Broke threw in a major way in the U.S. Musical style that evolved and led to the creation of new genres. Wrote some absolute masterpieces. One of the greatest live acts of all time. Stairway to Heaven and The Immigrant Song. Enough said.

3. Sex Pistols 1 album that changed the world. Put punk into publicity, created an avenue of artistic rebellion and created a legacy that in so unique to other bands. The band is often known by general knowledge, by people who don't even know there songs. So controversial and aggressive, so outrageous for the time.

4. Elvis So many number 1 hit singles. Was a trend setter that transcended audiences. His legacy will live on due to his untimely death. His stage antics, his popularity with the ladies and his voice will always be remembered.

5. Rolling Stones From Street Fighting Man to present this band has managed to roll out great rock n roll hits. Jagger and Richards are an amazing song writing duo, who's stage performance will always but captivating to watch. While their legacy is being slowly destroyed by their constant touring, albums like Tattoo You and Exile on Main Street will always be classics.

To round out the top 10 (or so).
6. Bob Dylan
7. Jimi Hendrix
8. The Who
9. Elton John
10. Eric Clapton
11. Buddy Holly
12. David Bowie
13. Nirvana
14. Michael Jackson
and so on.

Something Corporate - Me and the Moon
Fergie - Glamorous
Anberlin - Paperthin Hymn
Royksopp - Remind Me

I'd personally rank Buddy Holly higher since he influenced the likes of The Beatles and The Rolling Stones.

Top Five Worst Movies

1. Shallow Hal

There's about two or three memorable lines in the whole movie and they were given away in the trailer. A great example of the common failing of romantic comedy genre: an overly sappy plot in the guise of a feel-good story and jokes that aren't nearly enough to save it. Gwenyth Paltrow has said she made this one for the money. Enough said.

2. The Police Academy Series

I've never been a fan. A Homer Simpson quote pretty much sums it up. "Boy, when Marge first told me she was going to the police academy, I thought it'd be fun and exciting, you know, like that movie, "Spaceballs". But instead it's been painful and disturbing like that movie "Police Academy".

3. Super Troopers

Another situation where the better lines are shown in the trailer. The last five or ten minutes where the main characters decide "Fuck it, let's go out in a blaze of glory" has its moments but it's too little, too late.

4. Stealing Harvard

John C. McGinley probably has the finest moments in this one with a couple of very Dr Cox-like monologues but other than that it was a badly executed run-of-the-mill wacky comedy premise.

5. Legally Blonde/Just Married (tie)

The kind of movies you end up watching when there's a mixed gathering of friends and you're trying to find a movie that will appeal to everyone. In all fairness neither were terrible ideas but they're not my kind of movies.

I don't know what you're talking about. Phoenix is an arid climate. If you want a humid heat, that's the southeast and Florida. If you think Phoenix is humid, you haven't even experienced the humidity of the south.

Fri May 11, 2007 2:34 pm

I go to Arizona almost every year for White Sox Spring Training. The weather sucks there. I've also been to Florida many times. Florida is definitley annoying and humid, but its different because its swampy. The weather in Florida can be really nice on the beaches.

Andrew wrote:I'd personally rank Buddy Holly higher since he influenced the likes of The Beatles and The Rolling Stones.

I thought about it, and the only reason I didn't have him around 5 or 6 was his career was cut short. If he had a larger catalogue of music, then it would be a definite yes. Plus while he influenced the Beatles and the Stones, they very much took what he started and ran with it. In may ways he was a catalyst of the whole Rhythm n Blues meets Rock n Roll and Skeet music, but the product of his influence was much greater in my opinion than his own music.

When I look back over that list, it's funny how many of the artists are British. If anybodies interested in some less known Brit rock n roll bands, feel free to ask as it is my speciality

I suppose, but his untimely death shouldn't take anything away from his talent or his contributions; he did after all continue to have a string of hits that were released posthumously.

Of course, he could have still been alive and perhaps even performing sparodically today if not for all the tragic what-ifs surrounding his death: a more experienced pilot who didn't have problems with the navigational instruments, better weather conditions, or even a dishonest manager whose greed forced Holly into the tour in an effort to earn the money to support himself and his widow who was pregnant at the time.

I agree entirely. But the 'what could have been' is sadly, something we'll never know. In no way am I trying to play down his talents or contributions to modern music, but I do still think the Beatles were leaps ahead of Buddy (and everybody else to that matter). But to that extent, Buddy Holly, Chuck Berry, and Bill Haley were hugely influential on their music, and without them I don't think we would have lived in a world with The Beatles.

I personally think Richie Valens would have become a similarly prolific songwriter if he had the chance. Just because his sense of melody and rhythm was sensational for someone of his age , and would have developed over time. You can see in his early work that he captured all the fundamental elements of a (true) pop song at the age of 16. He could have been like Elvis in my view.

There's 2 months that are extremely hot (July & August), and even then, it's not like the weather is unbearable. Humid? Definitely not. I went to Pennsylvania during summer couple of years ago and I couldn't stand the humidity. IMO, much worse than any 120 degree weather I've ever experienced. And weather at night is certainly not cold...it's about 70 outside right now.

Top 5 worst movies that I've ever seen
1. Constantine - good god, it's the only movie where I honestly to wish to have that 2 hours back in my life. I would warn everyone to NEVER watch this movie.
2. The Cell - Awful movie. Plot wasn't interseting in the least.
3. Lord of the Rings - I'm really not into the movie like most people. p.s. Sam Cassell looks like Golem.
4. Super Troopers - Not really my cup of tea... plot was too stupid for me, almost going into that Jackass/any Will Farrell movie zone that i hate.
5. The Transporter - Honestly, it's really not that bad of a movie and I probably could've found one more movie to put here, but I guess there was sometihng about this movie that got to me. especially the homo-erotic scenes that weren't meant to be homo-erotic and also how that asian bitch managed to go into and hide in the backseat of a Mercedes while she's bound and gagged and tied up with her hands behind her back in a rolling office chair.

True, there's a lot of what-ifs there as well. I'd still place him in the top ten myself though I'm not sure where...somewhere between six and ten. I agree as far as Ritchie Valens is concerned too, it's surprising he wasn't inducted into the Rock 'n' Roll Hall of Fame until 2001.

Unfortunately, I'm basing my opinions on facts I read here and there, except for Boston and NYC (I've been there in 1998 and 1999 respectively.)
I'm sorry to hear Minneapolis isn't as I thought it was. I pictured it as a great city mainly from its location. Is the whole state of Minnesota as Minneapolis? I've seen some pictures of Duluth and it looks lovely even though too cold for someone who's lived most of his life in Buenos Aires.

Also, for "messy" I didn't mean dirty messy, I meant that, as Chicago, Indianapolis is a real big city and there's always lot of movement in it; When I went to NYC, the thing that amazed me was the fact that there was a lot of disorder: you couldn't even walk slowly because people would literally step on you. The Madison Avenue and the Sixth Avenue were some sort of a jungle for a seven-year old kid like me.
Living in XIX-century Milan, I really love that type of city but, at the same time, I know I could never be used to it.
