Best way to learn guitar (without lessons)

Other video games, TV shows, movies, general chit-chat...this is an all-purpose off-topic board where you can talk about anything that doesn't have its own dedicated section.

So you wanna play more power-chordy stuff?
You'll probably get bored after a few months, hehe.
Some great guitarists you should probably listen to;
Joe Satriani
Steve Vai
Herman Li from DragonForce
Eddie Van Halen
Slash
Yngwie Malmsteen
:D
and the Pioneers like Jimmy Page, Angus Young, etc.

Jimmy page is the greatest thief of black music... that being said Zeppelin sure did steal the right songs hahaha

I love shred, but can only take so much wanking from Satch and Steve Vai.. his use of the floyd is a travesty.. but his perfect pitch is great...

People who I love listen to play..

Slash [ GNR, VR, Slashs Snakepit ] ( obviously Appettite for destruction , Use your illusions are essential listens ). Great bluesy mixed with hard rock.. Classic guitar hero.

Dimebag Darrell [Pantera, Rebel meets rebel, Damageplan] ( Cowboys from hell, Far beyond driven, Vulgar display of power ) . The only shred guitar hero to come out of the 90's. Basically the Van Halen of metal/power groove. Totally sucks he was murdered.. Rip brother dime!

Eddie Van Halen [van halen duh..] ( david lee roth era shows him trademark 'brown sound' .. and the sammy era shows his artistic evolution ... stay away from gary cherone era..)

Satch/Vai ( good to hear for the technical aspects.. not so much for their music.. it is afterall just wanking )..

Buckethead [solo, guns n roses 1999-2002 ]( Love his stuff, if you can get past the wackiness... his spin on various well known theme songs is awesome.. One of the cleanist players you will ever see and fast as lighting. And the only person I have seen who can do 8/10 finger tapping.. almost unheard of.

Zakk Wylde ( endorses anything and everything.. Some black label society is good.. but highly overrated. Style is nice and lose although a tad too similiar in all his songs doesn't have much tools. Great at the Penatonic scale cause he.. well rapes it from overuse.)

James Hetfield [metallica ]( the absolute master of puppets.. is a genius pre st anger. Kill Em' all all the way through to And justice for all.. are essential listening ).

Billy Corgan ( has written some awesome melodies, most of the time simple.. which is the best form of the art )

Angus / Malcolm Young [ AC/DC] ( Malcolm actually is the better player of the two, he writes all of Angus's parts.. but great stage presence by Angus and they keep it simple.. )

Tom Morello ( the use of effects and the sheer sounds he can get out of his guitar and the 'whammy' pedal is amazing.. dude is a freak. )

David Gilmour [ Pink Floyd ] ( Put on "the wall" or "dark side of the moon", grab some LSD.. and enjoy.... The best use of 'space' ever in guitar playing. Beautiful stuff..)

Eric Clapton [ Cream and about a thousand other bands ] ( saw him a couple of weeks ago live.. dude is still "God".. amazing feeling for the music.)

Tony Iommi [ black sabbath ] ( definetely check their stuff out.. you'll instantly get cool status . Since every possible riff there is in rock has been done already by these guys.. Sabbath is who Wolfmother sound like , not Zeppelin. Learn 'Ironman" or "Paranoid" )

Honorable mention:

Jeff Beck, the guys from Rush ( thanks cam!), Jimi Hendrix ( probably the greatest, but personally he needed to release more stuff to be considered the greatest imo.. that and would have been interesting to see if he managed to grow as an artist instead of just being able to do kickass cover songs...)

Thats all for now..

Bands I listen to and get inspiration from ( that sounds kinda fruity)

Metallica
Guns N' Roses
Pantera
Pink Floyd
Rage Against the Machine ( thanks Nick )

that and a bunch of 80's rock bands..

First thing I learnt was the beggining on Come As You Are, and then Nothing Else Matters, using Guitar Pro, of course. The bad thing is that I still can't learn the chords, I'm too lazy :x
