Your Basketball Performances

Wow i just had a game and we lost to the worst team in our division (Jewish Community Center) I only scored 12, 10 in the first half. I can't believe we lost. Their best player was like a 5-7 180 pound fatass. I almost got a technical for slamming the ball on the ground, what the hell is that. At least we only lost by liek 8.

So I was just reminicing earlier today about some of my basketball memories. I was wondering what the most impressive feats you have witnessed in a game you played in were. I'm not talking about some game you went and watched, I'm talking about stuff that happened while you were on the court. I'll give you mine:

Most impressive performance by one of my teammates:
A few years back a teammate of mine hit 12 three pointers in a district game. That's right. 12. He hit a thirteenth from half court just before halftime but they waived off and said it was after the buzzer. He was unconcious.

Most impressive performance by one of my oponents:
This mexican kid named Elvis dropped a triple double on us in the state championship game. He had like 36 points, 18 rebounds, and 11 assists. Needless to say, we lost. But not by too much.

Another real impressive performance was a kid who averaged like 41 points per game during the district tournament all while shooting like 75% from the floor. He just couldn't miss. He flat out single handedly took his team to state.

I had 0 pts 2 ast tonight. We lost. I played about 12 minutes. Season high baby.

Started playing when i was 7 or 8 and whilst i wasn't the most athletic type i was always one of the more important guys in the rotation, a part of the starting 5 pretty much all my career. Never really ran the point when i was younger but i had a nack for setting guys up, which i might add stayed with me over time. We won the local comp a few times when i was little which was good but i really began disliking the guys who i played with. At the age of like 14 or 15 i intentionally dropped down from the top division to the second. Figured i'd get a little more recognition and exposure, a pretty selfish act i know. As a result i ended up losing quite a lot from here on out. For the next (and last few years of my career) however i was the go to guy for our team, averaging i'd say 18ppg, 7 assists or so and a couple of boards. Like i said earlier i wasn't a natural PG but i really came into playing it despite being a little taller than the average guards in our league. In short, our team sucked. I was awesome, and happy. Guess that shows the kind of player i am The Ricky Davis of old haha. Anyway, i havent played for two years or so now, not really missing it.

Holy shit, 12 in a game is pretty amazing. The way I read it, it seemed like he hit 12 in a half

Mine:

Teammate: This guy who is an average bench player for our school team dropped 57 in a game back in Year 11. If the scorecards counted assists over here, I would bet he had about 12 or 13 to go along with that 57 too.

Opponent: Thomas Abercrombie and Corey Webster both scored 40+ points each on us at nationals. I think Abercrombie had 52 and Corey had 45. Corey is probably the best HS player in the country right now while Thomas left NZ with a scholarship to play for Washington State (I saw on ESPN he played for the first time this season and according to the scores he had 1 point )

Another thing impressive was Richie Edwards (now plays for a HS in Florida) as a 15 year old led his team to the "State" Championships (we call them provincial championships) while averaging something like 48 points. If they were recorded, I would bet he averaged around 20 rebounds and 7 or 8 blocks. I still remember our school coach telling everyone great job for holding him to 42 in a regular season game.

I'm averaging 16ppg through 2 games so far this season....shooting better than 50% from field & 3pt line....hit 5 3's so far this season....hope to keep on rolling....shame our team is only averaging 30ppg through 2 games

14/14 from the field for me yesterday... That's right, 28 points. Last time I scored more than 20 was a long time ago, like a year ago.
I could've scored more but I played only 25 minutes: I was kicked out of the game (two technical fouls )

Looking at joining a team at the moment. haven't played since the middle of last year. Had a couple of decent games then. I had one game when I had 10pts and 13 Ast. All my points were in the post, as everybody on the team was about the same size (which wasn't tall) and everybody was shying away from the block. So I was playing against a guy who was 6'6 to my 5'10. He thought I was joking when I went to play there on him, but he went quiet quick when I hit a turnaround rainbow jumper over him on my first touch downlow. Played pretty good rest of the game, just trying different post moves. Swear to god I was meant to be a tall post player, rather than a short guard. Much rather be in the post, then shooing 3's or getting crunched on drives.

Last Friday we had won 96-18 in our local comp. I scored 36 points, dished out 5 assists, I had an amazing defensive game of 7 steels and 5 blocks.

nah, not really, it's about winning....last night we drew 47-47 & I had only 2pts, but added about 20rebs, 3asts, 5stls....shame I had like 5TO's....our team just kept turning it over....one of our guys had 36pts, he's a new guy, a call-in, he's a former State representive player, 6'6", quite athletic, he must've had like 36pts, 25rebs, 10blks....he carried the rest of our sorry asses....

my night I only took like 5 shots, concentrated on defense & rebounding, which is unlike me....for season I'm now going for about 11ppg, 12rpg....still shooting at a pretty good clip....but if that big guy keeps playing, I'll concentrate more on other aspects of game to help us win....

I played in the National School's Basketball Championship the year before last and we played against a school called Lake Ginnenderra (close to the AIS in Canberra). They had a couple of AIS players.
When we played them we were fairly surprised that we were winning at three quarter time by 15 or so points. Their best player, a guy name Patrick Mills, was having a bit of a shocker (lol, 20 points after three quarters). But in the last quarter he absolutely lit us up for 30 points and they ran away with the game. Probably the best performance I have witnessed.
Mills was part of the Boomers squad last year and he has just signed with St Mary's College in the US. I saw a scouting report for him and it said he was a poor shooter..........lol, thats not how I felt after he was through with us...

I personally do not play organised basketball I prefer to play with friends but I am puzzled at how you guys seem to be very conscious of your stats you've picked up. It seems like you are playing for numbers and not to win. I may be wrong but it is the impression that is given.

I had my first triple double the other day. I had 17 points (5 threes) 11 rebounds and 12 assists, possibly the best game of my life, even though i dominated our team sucks and we still lost.

He used the present perfect instead of the preterit as the sentence's grammatical tense, so I thought he had that game recently.
The action he expressed in that sentence (having a 20+ rebound game) isn't an action that has been completed with respect to the present, so the proper tense for the sentence should be the preterit ("I had a game"), not the present perfect ("I've had a game.")

I saw the present perfect tense in that sentence so I just thought he had that game recently.

1. First rule of grammar Nazism - don't spell anything wrong (preterite).

2. Nobody uses the term "preterite" in English - it's just the simple past tense.

3. The present perfect tense doesn't imply that an action took place at any certain point in the past anyway, so that argument doesn't make any sense to me.

1. Actually "preterit" is the alternative American English spelling of "preterite". Also, the word "preterite" gets corrected into "preterit" when you write it on Firefox.

2. Since I'm not an English-speaker and I live in one of the countries with the lowest foreign language education in the world, I didn't know that. I have been taught the word "preterit" is the correct term to refer to the past tense.

Anyways, never mind, as I just told you, I'm not an English-speaker so I just got confused and didn't understand what Drex said.
