Cooking your own food is cheaper (and satisfying?) than buying delivered foods all the time. You'll save more.

That's what I meant I think the concept of bulk foods are different here than in the Philippines.

Well its hard to find a practice use for ensure, tampons, and depends when you're not a senior citizen....

Do those coupons have some expiry date or something? I don't think you'll still be able to use them when you hit old age.

I already have a fairly nice car, but it only gets 24 mpg, which isnt good enough for me. I figure I can find one of those for 200 bucks in a junkyard (my uncle did) and drive it to save even more money! (they get 40 - 45 mpg)

As much as I hate saying this, (because I love America, its cars and the engines of its cars) if you wanna save money on petrol, you gotta get a Diesel.
Of course don't get a Ford F350 with 6.0L Diesel engine because it would be the same. Get a nice, small European car with a small (by small I don't mean what you Americans call small. I'm talking about a 1.0/2.0L engine) Turbo Diesel engine (if it has an Intercooler it's better but cars made before 1999 don't have it).
You'll save A LOT of money...I mean, people save money here with a Diesel car, imagine people in America, where petrol costs half of what it costs here.
If a Diesel doesn't save much for your likings then get a car with a GPL engine. I don't know if they're allowed over there but they save double the money a Diesel saves. Someone even said GPL costs as water.
A problem with it could be gas stations (Here only one out of six stations has a GPL distributor).

Just curious, but how many of you guys are paying for your post-secondary education, whether it be college, university or whatever. It seems like almost all m friends, who don't seem to live an expensive lifestyle, most of them have their education paid for by their parents.

Now some of them aren;t in expensive programs, but some are in programs that are $6000-7000 a year, and live in res, so most are like another $8000-10,000 each year. And even a few of them have had cars bought for them, just to make it seem even worse.

The last two years I've done sort of introductory programs, because the program I've applied for 3 times is insanely hard to get into (over 5000 applicants for 120 spots). Each year has cost about $2000 for tuition, plus about $2500-3000 for supplies/transportation/parking/etc. So the tuition was pretty much split evenly between me and my parents, but I had to pay for everything else, so basically about $4000 a year for me. Just one year out of high school, that was a lot to earn.

Now that I've gotten into the program I want, the tuition is now almost $7000, and I'll probably have about $1500-2000 in other expenses. My parents are paying for most of it, but I was hopeful to get something from OSAP (student loan), but because my parents both just got new jobs, and their income tax numbers from last year were a little messed up because of it, they wouldn't give me anything.

So basically I've had to cut out most luxuries. I didn't renew my gym pass, I didn't get a Canada's wonderland pass, I haven't bought a new game or movie in almost four months, I haven't eaten at a restaurant in about three months, my cellphone prepaid card ran out and I haven't bought a new one, and I walk to work every day.

I've saved up about $4000, but given the unexpected expenses that will come up, and given that this is a program that no one has ever been able to work and be successful, and I know my parents won't be able to give quite as much next year, and I'll have to find a new job next summer, I know I need a lot more.

So again, is everyone in this situation, or is it just me? Because if I hear about one more of my friends seemingly having it all, I might just rip out their jugular.

1 month of working 40hrs= about $300 a week after taxes times 4 weeks= $1200. Spend $100 on food, entertainment and such and you have $1100 left to add with what you got.

You totally misunderstood him. He said, $300 every 2 weeks.. Not even a Mcdonalds manager makes $1200 a month.

I did when I worked there as a manager. I was up to about 10 bucks an hour before I quit.

Isn't DoobieKnicks getting under $5 per hour, and minimum wage in New Jersey is $6.15 per hour and as of october 1st is $7.15 per hour.

In Ontario, minimum wage is going up to $7.75 in February 07, and then $7.95 (i think, might be more) in February 08.

But I started at $6.40, and after a couple promotions and reviews, I eventually got up to 10 bucks an hour after about a year and a half. The only problem...it was unbearable.

Yeps, I pay for my college fee's. 187 Euro's a month for 10 frigging months. Atleast I get a card that let's me travel across Holland for free on weekdays.

Basically I pay for everything for myself besides like electricity, water, heating and phone. Well, I pay my own phone. My mom pays the house phone. She uses that one.

I help out with groceries given I am still living here, but I am looking for a place for my own where I will have to pay for everything myself. I guess there won't be anymore buying DVD's etc then. Then again, the freedom to blast music at 4 a.m. is a plus.

I don't think that even Ronald McDonald gets payed $1200/month.
