The "Post Your Football Manager Game" Thread

Other video games, TV shows, movies, general chit-chat...this is an all-purpose off-topic board where you can talk about anything that doesn't have its own dedicated section.

  All I did was repeatedly scout his games and every now and then I would enquire or declare interest. After a while he became unsettled and I think I may be able to pick him up. I'm currently trying to pull that one on Rafinha since I would prefer him over Alves. Its funny cuz at first Alves wasnt gonna leave and now he is saying playing for a big club like Barca would be good for him or some crap like that.

That kid named Betinho on Sevilla is another good Brazilian youngster. He is 18 and...

Passing-19
Long shots-17
First Touch-20
Finishing-17
Teamwork-18

Phyicals are all in the 12-14 range.

He is pricy though, valued at 9 mil. :(

Transfer window finally opened, brought the following players in:

Daniel Tozser
Ryan Babel
Juan Carlos Heanao
Labinot Harbuzi
Julien Gorius
Noe Pamarot
Everton
Ekene Ezenwa

I've got a really easy game coming up in the cup against some dodgy 2nd division side, so I'm going to start a few of those guys who wouldn't normally.

Edit:

Few guys coming in on Bosman's next season:

Alexandre Bonnet (19 year old French midfielder, looks like a potential star)
Raul Bravo (Real Madrid defender, looks reasonably good)
Bruno Cirillo (Italian defender, I managed to get him for 1/2 what he wanted)

I'm trying for Ador and Gary Cahill... Ador looks amazing, 20 year old Spanish striker but Roma and a few other clubs want him (N)

I also signed some young striker from Belarus a bunch of other teams wanted, I haven't seen this message before:

Image

Edit: He scored 2 goals on debut against that 2nd division team (Y)

For some bizarre reason most of my new guys got injured before the game, so I didn't have Babel, Tozser and a few others. Thoughts from the ones who did play:

Sergey Kisliy: 2 goals, 9 rating, won 9 out of 15 headers
- For an 18 year old, 2 goals is great. Positioning looked good on both, his fitness could use some work though he was fucked by the end of the game.

Ekene Ezenwa: 2 assists, 8 rating
- He got injured and was replaced in the 2nd half, but he showed really good awareness and his assists were quality.

Julien Gorius: 8 rating, 5 runs (past the opponent)
- I was probably the most impressed with him out of everyone, looked a threat to score constantly. Reminds me of Joe Cole... at least his little dot on the screen did.

Everton: 7 rating
- He improved after a poor first half, expected more though.

Noe Pamarot: 8 rating, 4/4 headers won and 9 () interceptions
- Brilliant game, completely solidifies the right side of defense which has been a problem all season.

Labinot Harbuzi: 8 rating, 4/4 tackles won
- Playing out of position but did a good job, he'll be loaned out soon.

Juan Carlos Henao: 8 rating, no goals conceded.
- Did well but they only had 1 shot on goal all game.

Special mention:

Gift Leremi: 8 rating, 1 assist, 4 runs (past the opponent) 2 interceptions.
- Basically the left sided version of Gorius. Constantly threatened and got past the defender easily.

This is turning into a mini dynasty story.

I was thinking the same thing but there arent many FM fans on here so I figured I'll keep posting in here.

Guess what?
"What?"

I got Rafinha...HOORAY!!! *keeps composure*

I'm pretty happy about this signing since he is very young and has awesome stats which could explode in a short time. The only problem is that I originally was gonna get rid of Belletti if I got him but he has grown on me so I dont wanna let him go.:(

Decisions, Decisions, Decisions.

Maybe I should keep Rafinha on the bench since I didnt say he was getting a starting spot and make Belletti keep playing until Rafinha's stats get better. Oh well, I am still happy to have this kid, I might plop him into a midfield spot since he also can play AM. Better yet, I'll keep him on the bench for now.

I had a cracker of a match recently in the champions cup against Juventus. First Deco scored an amazing lob against the run of play (similar spot to Ronaldinho's in the last world cup vs England) to put us in the lead in the 6th minute. Juve equalized pretty soon when Ibrahimovic scored after Grosso made an error on a back pass to the goalie. I was pretty bummed about that. Then there was a long stretch when both of us were attacking each other relentlessly, I was really on the edge of my seat. I didnt want to lose to them since I had just come off 2 games where I lost the first against Sevilla then had a draw against Athletico. What made it worse was that after the match with Athletico the manager said we didnt have what it takes to win it all. Then came the 80th minute and I was thinking sheesh I really dont wanna draw then boom Marquez clears the ball up field and sets Eto'o free after he beat the goalie to the ball and he scored an empty netter. I was like "YEAH!!!". Pretty nice win considering it was the knockouut stage and team morale was down a bit. I sure wish there was audio commentary is this game though, would add to the excitement.

La Liga
1st- Barca 44
2nd- Ath. Madrid 40
3rd- Real Madrid 32

BTW did you see the Brazil match? 8-0. It was a joke. Ronaldo and Adriano both had doubles.

Here's all of my 4 signings I've done so far this season:

- Kalle Ljungberg: Very solid, versatile young midfielder that I got to replace my starting left midfielder that I sold for a lot of money a while back
Image
- Nik Besagno: Amazing defensive wonderkid that I found while scouting North America (he was 16 at the time )
Image
- Alexis Sanchez: Another young wonderkid. Got him for free since his contract ran out... Future world class player (hopefully...)
Image
- Robin Wikman: Great young player. Got him off the free transfer list when he was 18.. Very promising..
Image

Things are looking good for the team in the league as well, as we're currently at the 9th position (out of 14), and will most likely not get relegated :) Also, since I won the division 1 title last season, it enabled me to enter in the EURO Cup qualifying. And after beating two fairly bad teams, I'm now in the EURO Cup 1st round :D . However I'm scheduled to play the Greek team AEK Athens, so I'm gonna get my ass whopped pretty bad I recon.. Oh well, at least I'm gonna get some proceeds from the spectators at the game(s)..

edit: LOL! I actually won the first game against AEK Athens after making a comeback from 0-1 to 2-1 during the last 10 minutes in the game. And if that wasn't enough, it was the young kid Sanchez that made both goals.. I think I might actually have a chance of moving on.

Holy shit, we just beat the 2nd place Lyon away from home 1-0. They completely dominated the game, they had 55% possession... 7 shots on goal and a vastly better roster. The winning goal was scored by the new guy, Ekene Ezenwa and assisted by Ryan Babel... which pleases me.

Pamarot was excellent again, and the man of the match was goalkeeper Juan Carlos Henao... I don't think I've ever had a bunch of transfers come in at a lesser club and do so well so quickly.

Great win Jae (y) What position are you at now? And how far into the season has it gone?

Call me lucky, but I consider it skill to beat AEK Athens two times in a row to move on to the EURO Cup group stage. Yes, in the second game, two of their players got a red card and one got injured, but still.. Actually, I don't really care how I got there, because now I've made about £ 1 mil on this tournament alone, which is half of my entire budget.. It's huge for a club like Öster. And things are looking well for the future as well, as I recon three of the four other teams in my group are about at the same level as I (Dnipro, Wisla and Steaua), and the other team is Herta Berlin.
Does anyone know if it's the top two teams move on, or is it only the top one?

Oh, and I just got three games left in the season now and I'm at 10'th place. I just need to draw one of the games that I got left and I won't get relegated (and that's if all the teams below me wins all their games) :D

I completely forgot about Alexis Sanchez. Since I restarted I didnt go back and get him, I might as well now that you mention it. Or maybe wait a couple years.

They're all real players... you've basically got to have an interest in management, buying/selling players, developing youngsters in your junior squads etc. If you wanted to go out and buy Kewell or Beckham you definitely could, but it's very realistic in that you can't just fill your team up with superstars if you're FC ShitTeam. I knew absolutely nothing about the sport before I started playing Championship Manager... the first thing I did was spend 200 million on Ronaldo and Michael Owen because they were the only guys I'd heard of

It's really addictive, especially if you can get a decent/realistic tactic going. The problem with the older games is that there were always "super tactics" that would lead you to smash everyone no matter who you played with, but that's not a problem in this. If you've got some patience and you're into the management side of things it's definitely worth trying. As far as sports games go, for detail and realism I don't think there's any out there that even come close to matching this.. apart from MVP Baseball I guess.

What position are you at now? And how far into the season has it gone?

We're sitting 10th at the moment, could be 9th but our goal +/- isn't very good. We've got 16 games left, I'm pretty sure we can finish around 8th but it won't be easy. Got to start beating the teams we should beat (N)

And things are looking well for the future as well, as I recon three of the four other teams in my group are about at the same level as I (Dnipro, Wisla and Steaua), and the other team is Herta Berlin.

Oh wtf  that's an easy group... I got stuck with Ajax, CSKA Moscow, Red Star and Bolton. Only beat Bolton, lost to the rest of them. Roma didn't qualify in their group  ... neither did Hertha Berlin for that matter.

I've got about 8 million in transfer funds left... I'm thinking about spending it all on one player. Just got to figure out whether I want a striker, a midfielder or a defender.

What position are Red Star?

Buy Nikola Zigic from them (Red Star), he is a good player in RL, but I forgot to check how he is in the game.

Btw he is a striker.

Jae is completely correct, you REALLY have to have an interest in soccer management. There are times where you can spend 2-3 hours scouting out guys and not play a single game. I woldnt go after guys like Backman because I can imagine he may be expensive and there is probably someone out there 5 years younger with the same talent for half that price.

If you want to play and not manager the team then I would recommend the Winning Eleven/Pro Evolution series. If you really like management but dont like the checkerboard feel of Football Manager, try FIFA MAnager because you can watch their matches in 3D.

Get a good wingback. Grosso and Belletti (sharing position with Rafinha) supply crosses very well for me and have been setting up plenty of goal. You can plop some of them in DM if need be.

I won two games, tied one and lost one which placed me second in the group. In the 1st knockout round, I faced Steaua (which was the team I tied against in the group), and beat them in a 3-1 aggregate. Although I got knocked out in the 2nd knockout round, after a 3-1 aggregate loss to PSV.. Oh well, I came a lot further than I expected.

I sold my starting right midfielder and signed two new players in the last week before the transfer deadline for the upcoming season:
- Sherman Andres Cardenas: Yet another very young wonderkid. Only 17 years old, but is already extremely skilled.. Got him for free also :)
Image
- Christoffer Karlsson: Very solid young kid that'll be a rock in the midfield in a few years..
Image
I might look to sell one of my strikers and sign a new one.. Does anyone have any good suggestion?

edit: By the way, does anyone know how to increase attendance? I'm circulating 4,500 per game, which is the lowest attendance in the league by far.. (n)

What's the capacity of your stadium? You should ask the board to expand.

I don't need to expand; the stadium is about 15-16,000 maximum capacity, yet at my (league) games I only get about 5,000. In the EURO Cup however I got about 14-15,000, though I'd really like to get those kinds numbers in the league.. I'm assuming the only real way to drive it up is to start winning every game or so..

Srbija: In my game, Vidic is valued 3,3 million euros and is at a loan with Club Brugge..

If you're selling your starting players, then the people won't be familiar with them until you win lots of games with the new players.

BTW, did you see today's game, Dahl? 1-1, bitch :P

I have been storming through La Liga but my attendance average is only around 65,000 whereas the capacity is 98000 I believe. Maybe you have to attract bigger name players to your club to attract more interest. Hopefully next year I'll have better attendance because when I transferd for Podolski nobody know him and now he has around 35-40 goals (Hard to believe considering he only had 8 or 9 in his first 20 matches. He has really caught fire which has lead to a whole bunch of mail stating the fans love him and I have just about forgotten about Eto'o. I might transfer him and get another Brazilian playing up front (Fred or Adriano). After that I want a BIG name player to come in and see how it affects attendance.

Drex: Yea, well I've only sold two of them though; but it might have something to do with that since some of my old starters are now regulars on the bench..

Yea, I watched parts of the game. I wasn't impressed with how Sweden played, though Chile was alright.. Hopefully Sweden will step it up in time for the cup; and hopefully Chile will be able to enter next time, so we'll have the chance of beating you  By the way, they said that there was about 10,000-15,000 Chilean fans there :o

dadamafia: That might be a good idea also. I'm looking for a good striker to sign when the transfer window opens, perhaps I should go for a big name then..

My attendance has skyrocketed recently, at least since I was re-signed. I had a home encounter with Espanyol of all teams and the attendance was close to 98.000. Things are looking good. I even got 50 mil for the transfer market so yah, life is good.

Its fine in here but maybe it would have been better in the World Cup thread.

Edit: I just had the most amazing Champions Cup Final. I had a key defender pick up and injury (Puyol was already out mind you) and we battled and battled the pressure from Chelsea until we eventually made it to Penalties. The depleted backline was very obvious.

The first 9 players on each team did not miss a PK and then my 10th guy missed his. All the pressure was mounting on my GK to save this shot and when the player fired he dived the wrong way. Fortunately for us he was aiming for a goal in the stands.

Now it was the goalies turns to fire away. Both of them suck at PKs so to make a long story short they both missed.

Then the PKs began from the top and 2 of my players went and scored and then I believe Lampard missed his PK to give us the win.

That victory was so sweet.
