I can't believe this has blown out of proportion. It's a cartoon expressed in the right of freedom of speech, but it just so happens to conflict with religion. Two fundamental rights clash and then it's all over the media? Just beautiful, create more attention, create more conflict.

This cartoon isnt as innocent as people believe it to be, I think they were well aware of what they were doing and knew this would occur. If it was the same as any other innocent cartoon I see no reason why its that special for them to reprint it. I'm not sure but werent they first shown like late last year?

Back on topic.

My thoughts are that these Muslims are overreacting to a simple cartoon. Over this period of time I have been reviewing Sean Hannity's radio show and various other media outlets and supposedly people make fun of Jesus and the church in cartoons too , but there isn't as bad a reaction as in the Middle East. Again , if the cartoon is offensive , be civilized and write a letter of complaint to the editor saying that you disapprove of the cartoon and do not wish to see such offensive material (according to the religion of islam) in the newspaper again. Why go out in the streets and burn Danish flags and threaten to behead the guy who drew the cartoon? It's just a cartoon.

On a related topic I still am confused as to why Islamic insurgents continue to take innocent contractors and people who just want to help Iraq , and threaten them with death. The same thing I said above applies here , if these insurgents are angry about having no voice in the Iraqi parliament or America's presence , act like civilized people. Most people in the world , when faced with a problem , try to resolve it peacefully. They don't threaten and behead Americans to try to make a point.

Now here's what I don't understand; why are Muslims the only people taking offense to the comics? Muhammad was a messenger of God, and correct me if I'm wrong, but don't Christians and Jews believe that as well? If someone made a comic negatively portraying Jesus, Moses, Noah, etc. I would take just as much offense to it as I would to Muhammad's.

First of all, Christians don't consider Muhammed a "prophet of God".

Secondly, this incident shows the difference between Christianity and Islam. There have been so many incidences of cartoons of Jesus, and most of them very unflattering. Yet, how many Christians do you see going off to bomb the embassies? None. But the Muslims do. Islam is not a religion of peace.

A free for all? If it was a free for all we wouldn't be kicking out the Taliban and Saddam, rebuilding two countries (Afghanistan and Iraq) using intelligence so we can use "smart bombs" or a simple ground force raid to limit loss of life. If it was a free for all we would be blowing up anything and everything we see. And when we do blow something up, we usually help rebuild it for the village or city or whatever it is.

And I agree, raping their women is not necessary and whoever did that should be punished. No excuses. But you are talking about a minority here, pal.

About the "free for wall" , as riot said , we don't kill everything we see. If people die , they died because 1) America commited an egregious error (which is unlikely) or 2) they unfortunately were in the vicinity of a plane's bomb. Take the recent bombing in Pakistan , for instance. America was under the impression that Al Qaeda's second in command was hiding there , so they flew a plane and dropped some bombs over there. Unfortunately , he wasn't there and a bunch of innocent women and children were killed , leading to an angry Muslim response. Sure , there are going to be innocent lives lost but not as many as the liberal media will have you believe. America can't be perfect.

A little misunderstanding, I'm not trying to blame the media, but I'm saying it's blown out of proportion. The more attention it gets through the media, the more of an issue it becomes, and the more conflict it's going to create in the end.

Lets compare the ways the africian americans took to gain acceptance, and compare that to what muslims are doing around the world. Did Martin Luther King go and blow up busses full of everyday civillians? No of course not. What he (and alot of blacks) was prove to the rest of america and the world they are the same by exhibiting inteligence and maturity, something the majority of muslims wouln't understand.

This is a HUGE misconception most Americans have. Behind every peace loving Martin Luther King, there was someone like Malcolm X that had to do all the dirty work. The civil rights movement would have gotten NOWHERE if they did not committ acts of violence because seriously why else would the whites give a shit anyhow? It's just that those that did commit all the violence and such were basically forgotten and taken off history books because they were labeled as communists or socialists.

I'm not saying terrorism is justified in any way shape or form, but just clarifying that yes, there was violence involved in the Civil Rights Movement and it is important that people recognize that. Why? Because nowadays the general image of how the Civil Rights Movement seems to be that the Blacks just got their rights all of a sudden, when it was a gradual, painful and even violent process that still goes on today.
