As for the concentration camps, that was said that all the Japs on the West coast had to sell their stuff and move inward to camps. But I wouldn't call them "concentration" camps. It was nothing at all like the Halocaust. These certainly weren't death camps but they weren't pretty either. A lot of people were paranoid and thought some of them could be spies. There was a lot of paranoid people back then with the Red Scare, spies and more. Weird people back then.

No one was saying it was like the holocaust. A concentration camp doesn't have to be on that level to be considered one. The original concentration camps that the British used on those Boer farmers in South Africa weren't that bad in comparison.

It's been used as a slur against folks from pretty much every Asian nation.

I've only ever heard "Jap" used in a derogatory sense, I don't think it's ever changed its connotations since it was first used as a slur.

It originated in Korea. As I said Americans are called Mi Kook Ins and the yanks obviously thought we were saying English because they believe everyone somehow speaks English and thought we were saying "Me...Gook..In?" (Guess they just ignored the in or something.)

However, since Americans are ignorant of other cultures and couldn't tell the difference between vietnamese from Korean to any other race, they began calling all Asians gooks. There you have it.
