anyways since i live in one of those crappy conencted town homes, i dont have a b-ball hoop, but i go to my grandmas 7.5 foot net and practice all the time, all you have to do is shoot from the same spot about 1,000,000 times and then move back a step and so on and so forth, actually, im gonna try that next time i get to that hoop

I don't know why nobody has mentioned about using the glass. I can shoot pretty well from the mid-range but just average beyond the arc. I usually use the glass when I take shots and it has worked great for me. Just master using the glass and you'll shoot pretty well. If your shot is too strong or too weak, the glass will bail you out. Try it.

Let your practice consist of both off the dribble and standstill shooting. There's a big difference between the two. When you feel like you can score in your sleep, than you can add turnarounds and fadeaways. And start with developing your midrange game first. Midrange jumper off the dribble is one of the most underrated weapons in basketball.

I believe that shot posture isn't really a big deal, for me...
When I miss shots, I know I'm either not letting my arm extend or spin the ball enough..
Extending your arm and spinning increases the chance of the ball going in because of the spin and the arch. Just practice and shoot a lot.
Oh and glass, they say you aim the ball at the upper triangle and the ball will go in. And it's true...
Also, it's useful to have a guy standing in front of you and shoot at game speed. Dribble before you shoot or let a guy pass it to you.

Ok but what about the first step? What can I do to have a faster first step? To what is it connected to? Like the faster I am the faster the first step is?

Something like that, yeah. You can improve your first step with training your explosivness (sprinting/plyometrics plus proper weight training and stretching). If you train and eat right, miracles can happen.

on first step moves. master the art of using your off arm [whacking aside the defender] without being called for the offensive foul. it will boost your so called "first step" to explosive proportions

Yep right, and always play with better players to improve yourself... Keep using the first step.. But becareful of traveling

just a quick question, but does anyone shoot well with mateen cleaves' extremely ugly shot formation (not as ugly as marions, but weird looking)?
Fri Sep 23, 2005 10:47 am
Mateen Cleeves can

I don't think so. If he actually shot well with that form of jumper, I'm guessing he would have averaged more than 11.7 minutes per game in his career.....
Fri Sep 23, 2005 11:41 am
He has a cool name though
Fri Sep 23, 2005 11:43 am
yea i agree lol

I loved Mateen Cleaves in college at MSU, he was awesome then but hes horrible now.

lmao, but i agree with Its_asdf, if he could shoot great with the form, why is he averaging 11.7 mins a game. and i meant anyone else OTHER than mateen cleaves that could shoot well with that form, whether it be someone in college or pro or someone on these forums.

I know, but I had to put that

Another thing I would recommened is to tape yourself shooting jumpshots. Take a cam and head over to the court and start shooting jumpshots like you normally would.. get someone to tape it for you. It's best to release the ball when you're at the peak of the jump and this will tell you if you're doing it right. Watching yourself play can really have a lot of upsides.
I taped myself practicing yesterday and one thing I realised was that I release the ball way to early. I'm gonna have to work on that..

That's actually excellent advice. I wish I thought of that earlier, at least for other aspects of my game. I actually enjoy watching my jumpshots
Kool-Aid: I love your avatar
