ESPN NFL 2K series are over for now....

Other video games, TV shows, movies, general chit-chat...this is an all-purpose off-topic board where you can talk about anything that doesn't have its own dedicated section.

Won't attract as many Sega fans as you think. If you go to the ESPN boards, take a look there, you'll see how many really are pissed at EA.

And EA really hasn't run out of things to put into Madden, and if they were smart they'd steal some stuff that ESPN had, maybe higher some former VCers, who lost their job because of this mess.

Well the thing is, other people applied for the bid too. If Sega won the bid, we would be saying the same thing. So it isn't necessarily EA's "fault". It's not like they were only listening to EA. EA didn't have any other choice since the NFL already decided they were gonna give exlusivity.

Also, Madden's always been pretty good, as far as I remember. (When did it have bad reviews? It's always above 8.0 at least.) And I don't even like american football!

geez gloveguy for someone who claims to be unbiased about espn and ea you sure seem to be adament ea is the most evil thing ever, if any other one of these companies had the chance to buy nfls rights they would do it. EA had to do this, its biznass! and it dosent surprise me you think madden sucked this year. at least be honest and say madden was awesome this year as always, and in my unbiased opinion espn put out an awesome game also,it was even better for the price.

from what I been hearing EA might break out a deal like this with the NBA after Live 06.

Gamespot had a thingie abt it...and I gotta feeling EA with its massive power could do it specially since EA makes the game for all genres unlike ESPN.

I think that could have been Sega's prob...theirs ALOT of PC gamers out there and not makin games for the system isnt a good choice althought I understand that policy since Sega is a console.

Oh well I dont play Football, course I hope they can do this with the ICC....because their Cricket games have been lame to say the least, I wanna see a GREAT cricket game for once....

Hmm lets remember EA is the one to have started a true FRANCHISE system for Sports genre games....so they kinda gave the method for Sega.

Maybe the biggest problem of all, Sega made the title ESPN 2K5....its the most overrated sports channel in the world.

I too am a fan of espn, but you are a hater of ea and madden. Look at this situation, and you criticise ea for making a deal that sega would also have made if they have the chance. that my friend, is hating (i think, i'm not 100% upto date with my ebonics  )

There is something that hasn'e being brought up yet:

Why the NFL decided to give the exclusive? Why just make money from one Company (EA) rather them from multiple companies (VC 989)??

That doesn't make sense from a business standpoint. I'm sure they asked for more money from EA for giving the exclusive, but they could have done it in a different way..by raising the fees for both EA and VC.

because then both companies would have had to sell way more copies of their own game to make up for the cost of the license. maybe sega couldn't take that risk? I dunno.

It's because ESPN is selling at a much cheaper price and thus the NFL would get less royalties, not to mention it prevents EA Sports from lowering the price. If I am right, royalties are separate from the license, it's the percentage of sales that you give to the person who gives the license. So NFL thought if EA Sports and Sega lowers their price both to 19.99, NFL would make around half of the money they received in royalties.

i think the reason for this was EA wanted to get rid of Sega cause there were becoming a pain in the *ss, but now these leaves Madden as the only NFL game out there, i just think EA will be smart and team up with ESPN and not Tony Bruno. ABC/ESPN employs John Madden hes always on ESPN NFL countdown, maybe just maybe 2006 will be the best game to come i just hope they dont raise the price on it.

ESPN is alot different from Sega, Sega makes the game and the ESPN name just goes on it. dont be surprise if ESPN and EA team up to make a way better game. Sega has always sucked ass. ESPN Rules

One of the companies had to get it, it was either ea or sega. It just so happens that EA put in a higher bid. EA did what it had to do. Maybe espn will just produce a college footbal game now?

ESPN, Sega, VC, Take-Two, whatever...

I realize this, but I still don't condone the move, I'm still gonna cry about it, and I'm still never gonna play a Madden game(which probably won't even be called "Madden" anymore). Just understand my point, and give me my right to be pissed.
