ESPN 2K5 look at this..

Other video games, TV shows, movies, general chit-chat...this is an all-purpose off-topic board where you can talk about anything that doesn't have its own dedicated section.

I am getting sick of all these ESPN threads. This is NBA LIVE series center. Nobody here cares what ESPN has to offer, all they want to see is NBA Live. I think all ESPN threads from now on should be locked because all it does is cause arguments.

Live is 1000000000000 of times better than ESPN but still ESPN is adding stuff that year after year is making the battle closer and closer.

I'm a live fan but! LEARN TO RESPECT that espn is adding stuff that LIVE haven't in 10 years.

thats awesome, but youre still posting in the wrong thread, dip. if you want to post about espn, and you are free to do so then go to the other games section. learn to browse through the forum and find the appropriate place to start your new topic otherwise you'll get flamed.

As a Live fan, I can honestly say that I'm blown away by the graphical detail in ESPN's player models. Jason Kidd looks fantastically detailed and quite realistic, ESPN gets the crown in this regard hands down.

But in the immortal words of Stephen A. Smith: HOWEVA....

You ESPN guys need to understand a few things:

- while I concede that the player models are superior to Live's it absolutely doesn't mean that ESPN is the superior game. I find it difficult to understand how posting screenshots here would somehow "prove a point." It's all about the gameplay baby!

- we are looking at a picture in which Jason is incredibly close. Who in their right mind plays in a camera that would even allow them to admire the attention VC pays to player models?

- when it comes to graphics, the most important thing is animations What good are realistic graphics if the players move in an unrealistic fashion. As a Live fan who's been playing Sega's title since it was called NBA Action/NBA Fastbreak (depending upon whether you had a Saturn or a PSX) I've always found the animations to be VASTLY inferior to that of Live's along with the "arcadey" gameplay that pales in comparison to EA's efforts.

- you guys are coming to an NBA Live message board on some sort of "Jihad Mission" all in the name of your undying love for Sega. You have every right to like whatever you see fit to but don't expect a warm welcome when you do it here. Surely you can understand that, can't you?

- now this might be the most important one. The majority of guys here are PC gamers who can care less about what us console guys are playing. There is no title by Sega for their PC, why should they give a rat's ass?

Don't get me wrong, I'm impressed but I'm a console guy. These guys have graphics that make that Kidd picture look like "Arch Rivals" not to mention all the patches they have, etc. You can't get angry about guys not conceding to ESPN when it is an inferior product graphically, which seems to be what most of you are harping on.

I know people think ESPN shouldn't be talked about in a Live forum, but I believe it is important to be open minded about things and discuss them. That picture of Kidd looks spectacular and I wish Live could have the same graphics. However that does not make a game, it is just the bells and whistles, but I would rather see some constructive critism, rather than calling people idiots and morons.

And let's not forget that for many years ESPN was leaving Live in the dust. If you check every review published you will notice that ESPN always had a slight - severe edge. There was a point between 2001-2003 (even with the freestyle addition) that Live could not interest me. I'd play it for a month and get bored pretty quickly. And I think if I'd have a console I would have probably switched over to ESPN back then and never posted on this forum. Although I have no product loyalty and if I felt Live was better this year I would switch back over. And as a gamer that is my choice. Why should I settle for a crappy product just because of brand loyalty when there is a better basketball game produced by Sega?

To me NBA Live hasn't been the same since 2000. My interest in Live came back in 2004. I would love it if we could take the best things from both Live 2000 and 2004 and combine them (ie. custom teams).

These few bad years were a big gaping wound for EA, that Sega quickly exploited. However would NBA Live have gone this far without some healthy competition?

In conclusion I think it is fair for people to discuss the pro's and cons of both games, and what us Live fans wish we could borrow from ESPN such as the graphics, or dynasty mode. Name calling won't get us nowhere, it'll just show EA that we are a bunch of gullible zombie EA loyalists that will buy their game no matter what and disregard the competition as crap, but if we constructivily critisize Live for it's weaknesses and praise it for it's strengths it will give some serious info to EA to work off.

Remember I am only here because Live is my only choise on PC and it also gives me the freedom to mod/patch the game however I want a feature I would not be able to live without. But if ESPN was on PC years ago and was fully patchable we'd be having a whole other discussion.

(I apologize for the length, I'm just getting sick of wasted space (name calling)

LIVE DIEHARDS:

I know that those who mostly hate ESPN are PC gamers because NBA 2k5 is exclusive only for x-box & ps2 but let me tell YOU THAT THIS YEAR IS PHENOMENAL FOR ALL ESPN TITLES NFL 2k5 (9.2), NHL 2k5 (9.1) and the latest NBA 2K5 will blow & spoil the 10th year anniversary of Nba live not only because of the SUPERB GRAPHICS but in OVER-ALL ASPECTS..

Dont be HYPOCRITES dudes because those who are trashing ESPN will eat their words as soon as the game comes out except the pc gamers...

Live2005 has improved & i am impressed with the new dynasty mode.. But you have not yet seen the NEW ASSOCIATION of NBA 2K5 & i have faith that it is better than live..

NBA 2K5's gameplay was revamped and u can check it on the latest videos at espnvideogames.. It's like watching a real nba game with 3d crowd, new camera angles, new plays, virtual arenas, realistic jerseys etc..

Yet you haven't seen yet the new ESPN sportscenter presentation with Bill walton, scott stuart for pre-game analysis and Tafoya for sideline reports like injuries and new awesome cut-scenes..

Plus the bonus 24/7 mode which is like having a streetball game that's why IGN quote: "THE MOST COMPLETE HOOPS GAME OF THE YEAR!"

I am a live gamer also & im buying live05 also but LET'S NOT MAKE STUPID comments for 2K5 and judge it ahead because in the END you will just say to yourself, What the fuck?? I can't believe this.. For only $19.99??

ANYWAY let IGN & GAMESPOT handle the reviews and let's wait for the final rating of live & espn 2005...

Who will be the King?? Your guess is as good as mine..

To be honest, I am quite respect the SEGA team of the creative ideas,
they are the pioneers for creating many new features of many sports games (virtual striker, virtual tennis, crazy taxi (is it a sports game??), ESPN 2kx, etc).

They made many decorations to the game and made them be more interesting.

But they are all commonly "arcadish" I think.

I like these games, but I cannot say they're simulation sports games.

Yes, I am a PC gamer. Not have a chance to taste the ESPN 2k5, if they release it on the next (or next next) year, I am sure I will have a try,
or I may turn to 2kx totally, who knows?

But EA is not a small potato in gaming industry, and the development team proved us every year that they can optimisze everything and implement it in the most effective way into their games.

we have to enjoy the games but not using them for competition (we are gamers only, not the manufacturer, right?). We don't really care who win (indeed how to measure who is the winner??)

Can anyone tell me who wins regarding: "QUAKE vs UREAL Tournament", "Rainbow Six vs Counter Strike", "GTA vs Mafia", "C&C vs Age of Empires" ??

They are all in the same nature but cannot to be judged by certain measurements only. It's not fair to both of them.

"ANYWAY let IGN & GAMESPOT handle the reviews and let's wait for the final rating of live & espn 2005... "

I am waiting for the game only, not the reviews, I'll treat reviews as the information provider only.

by the way, thank you bigben, you always give us the link of the latest ESPN video even though we are not discussing anything related to the ESPN.

One last thing is, I found that in this video (nba2k5_PS2-Defense.mpg).
The guys who are off-ball will just stand on the court, GREAT GAMEPLAY!!
I think the player is lazy and ESPN done a perfect AI implementation. :D

Who cares if a review says NBA Live 8.9 and ESPN 9.1... What the hell does that tell you???

ESPN is better on some aspect??? HELL no... You keep on going about reviews etc. etc. A review is always an opinion OF A SINGLE MAN/WOMAN. He rates the game and thus the ratings you ESPN fans so religiously follow are based on opinions of a single person! It's like it used to be in Iraq, or nazi-Germany... One man said something and it happened! That just dumb... Get real...

And still about reviews... The review for Live and ESPN may be from different people who value different things, so you can't compare the two unless it's like one get 9.5 and the other gets 6.2! So quit basing everything on the reviews as they are quite moot.

Reviews are only good for one thing and that is, if a game is good and playable or just terrible... The text in the review reveals what problems and good points the reviewer has noticed, but you can NEVER compare two separate reviews... They could do a Live vs. ESPN review which might have some sort of an angle in this, but it is still an opinion of a single man.

I'm sure we can find reviews that say Live is 10 and reviews that say ESPN is 10... So forget the reviews... If a game gets 8.5+ in a review, the reviewer has probably enjoyed playing the game and it doesn't have any serious flaws in it...

And about Live 2001-2003... Those I call the practise versions of Live for the new team... The production team was changed in the middle of making 2001 (that's when TIM left the board management to Andrew) and they have been trying to find their niche ever since. 2004 was good and seemed quite stable and all, so look for the games to get only better from now on. They have learned how to make the game by now so it'll only get better.

One year is such a short time to make a game, so no wonder it took them a couple of releases to get it right...

REVIEWS are nothing... Unless they are done by 100 reviewers...

I, as a PC player and supporter of Live, have to say that the ESPN 24/7 mode does sound intresting and something that would be nice try out, but I won't go and buy a console just for that.

Moved from NBA Live 2005 General Issues. Once again, and this is the last warning - ESPN discussions belong in the "Other Games" section. Any posts promoting or discussing ESPN in the NBA Live 2005 section may be deleted, locked or moved depending on the moderator's mood.

Furthermore, anyone who signs up to the forum simply to promote ESPN, bash NBA Live or NBA Live fans risks banning or deletion, as we reserve the right to terminate your account if we feel you're not making a positive contribution to the forum. Promoting any rival game will be considered spamming and if that's all you're doing, you'll quickly wear out your welcome in the forum.

Please keep ESPN discussions in the appropriate section. This is the last time I'll say it before I simply delete the posts, or lock them and refer you to an existing ESPN topic. Thank you.

Name calling? How old are we?

But you're right. I should have known better than to expect people on here to not be fanboys.

... or you could've realized that promoting ESPN at an NBA Live website isn't always going to get the best reaction. Seriously, how stupid do you have to be to come here bashing Live and then not expect people to get pissed off. We wouldn't fuckin come here if we didn't prefer Live over ESPN (besides Glove), so if we want to be fanboys then what business is it of yours? Just fuck off back to the ESPN forums, I'm sure they'll still give you a free copy of the game or whatever they offered you to come here and act like a little bitch.

ESPN rates its last year's game LOWER than NBA Live 2004. So I guess, since we are talking to the source itself, Live is better.

ESPN

Postby Oosh on Tue Sep 14, 2004 11:54 am

I have been an EA fan since Lakers Vs Celtics, I have respect for both games (own every Live on both PC and PS2 and the last 2 ESPN's on PS2).

I just thought I would make the suggestion to give ESPN its own forum section since there are so many posts on it and its is such a popular topic of discussion on this website.

I dont think the admins of this site should have anything to hide from ESPN or its fans and should be willing to allow free discussion on the topic.

To avoid any negativity among the posters, those who wish not to post or see any posts regarding ESPN can simply not view the ESPN section.

Just a thought, Andrew?

I don't think that's a good idea because..

A) This is an NBA Live website, thus associated with EA
B) Being an NBA Live website, 85% of us come here to talk about NBA Live
C) The people who start all of these ESPN topics are just here to cause trouble and promote ESPN
D) The "Other Games" forum is perfectly fine for ESPN threads. The only reason there's so much negativity is because people seem to think Live 2005 General is the place to post rubbish about ESPN's latest camera angle or whatever
E) There are multiple websites for ESPN fans to post there
F) sho98mtx loves the cock
G) BIGBEN too, loves the cock

It's a not a bad idea Oosh, but for the most part the Other Games section is sufficient. Most posts about ESPN seem to come around the same time every year (ie around this time every year) and many of them are promotion/"you guys don't know what a good game is"/"Live sucks"/"you guys are stupid" kind of discussions. I don't think we need a whole new section for those kind of threads.

ESPN looks good, NBA Live looks good.

The guys who try to try and convert people should stop IMO. The game isn't even out yet and you guys are talking like it's the ultimate game.

I know I was talking like 2k4 was a good game before it released, but when I got the game it played like shit and I bought NBA Live 2004. I suggest poeple should hold back from bashing other games because it would suck to eat your own words.

This is a NBA Live Board. If you want to try and convert Live fans, there's always Operation Sports. They actually have open minded people.

I've been viewing this forum for quite a few years now and to me it seems the majority of the "hate" posts are coming from the sole NBA Live fans... Just look at the post a few spots above...

Its all going a bit far for me and its just getting too immature and childish with comments such as the above post.

The forum needs to be a little more tidy and the abusive comments need to stop. If there was an ESPN section and only people who were actually interested in hearing about ESPN viewed it im sure it would put an end to the immaturity overtaking this forum.

The "other games" section is just too general and people dont want to spend all day sifting through posts to find a topic they are looking for...

Anyway this is the last I will say on my suggestion im not trying to push the idea I just really think it would help.

And you need to stop preaching. The problems with ESPN people only come around when the new Live game is coming out. There's definitely not enough posts to warrant creating a whole new forum for it. If you don't like the way things happen around here, then don't come here. Simple solution to a simple problem.

As Jae said, there simply isn't enough interest most of the time. At the end of the day, this is still an NBA Live fansite so it's catering to fans of the NBA Live series. There just isn't the level of interest among most of the members here to create a whole different section for the ESPN series. Most of the ESPN related posts come about this time every year - that's not enough for a brand new section.

As for the immaturity, it's basically people getting fed up with posts telling them they're biased (when the accusations are being made by people who are just as biased towards something else) or told they're stupid because they have differing opinions. Trying to "open someone's eyes" is not going to get a good reaction when the individuals in question have already established their own likes and dislikes.
