Yes, I still play basketball and am doing pretty well. I play anywhere from 2 hours a day to 5 hours. Just depends on how my body is feeling. For those of you that know who O.J. Mayo is, I played him this summer and he had 5 dunks on our team but we held our composure and only lost by 10, if I remember correctly. We were up by 15 at one point

Andrew wrote:I played competitively up until the age of 18. I decided to quit partly because I once again injured my left ankle, and also because of the officiating in the Newcastle Basketball Association. Many of the refs had developed a dislike for our team, which kind of sucked the fun out playing there.

Newcastle referee's are notoriously bad. I remember one game we played against Maitland with Newcastle refs, the guy was scared of us all so he made the girl make all of the calls, and she was a complete bitch. She called an unsportsmanlike foul on me for staring at someone after i swatted their shot, but when I said later on "get fucked you dumb slut" she didn't do anything. Weirdness.

Btw, I don't make a habit of being rude to female referee's, or females in general... but I think the sex of this woman was highly questionable.

Well buddy i have a problem with YOU! haha, i'd love to play some 1-0n-1

im way past my prime, which is sad. Back in the day (2yrs ago) i used to play 2hrs a day, now i play 2hrs a week. Back then my shot was excellent from everywhere, so much so that i would only drive to the hoop on a fast break :) now i find it real hard to get into a rhythm so i'm really streaky but sometimesi can get into a rhythm. I can still play defense though and i drive more and shoot less....i can still outspeed everyone :D I got a game 2day at 4pm, gonna dominate that.....will report after the game

I used to play a lot from 1993 to 1998, the year before I started my college course. It decreased from year to year, and this year I played like 10 hours, all year.

I also had a surgery (which some people of the forum may know) which kept me away from any sports-related stuff, and for which my conditioning sucks these days.

James, tell us a bit more about OJ Mayo...

I can beat that. I was once called for a travel when I didn't even have the ball (that resulted in a technical foul ) and we were called for a backcourt violation after our opponents lost the ball and one of my teammates chased it into our frontcourt for a layup.

Lol that sounds like the time my brother got 3 fouls called on him when he was on the bench, the refs kept getting the number of the kid getting the fouls wrong so they all went on him.

The scary thing is, the Newcastle Basketball Association was named Basketball Association of the Year back in 2000, so other regions must be much, much worse.

Sat Jul 31, 2004 7:28 pm

I guess other associations are probably less organized and professional, because I'd assume Newcastle gets more funding than say Cessnock or Gosford.

It’s funny how basketball and sports in general can make you explode of angriness.
Last year (or the year before that) I played with a couple of friend when the fucking dumbass in my team let his player go free to the basket, I got angry and used it to block my friend who came free towards the basket. I jumped high and strecht my arm all in furious anger when something got fucked up in my back. I had pain for weeks after that.

Another time I broke a school window with my bare hand when I shoot a long shoot & landed on my friends feet which hurted like hell.
I made the shoot though

Man it was aboyt 6 years since I last played on a team (with my brother as coach).
I’ve tried to joined another team afterwords but never felt it was any entartaining. Damn, I don’t wanna fucking practice all day several days a week doing stupid exercises

Nah man, I happy about the way I play now, on the street when I FEEL LIKE IT! (or when my older brother force me  ).

No I haven't, but neither have Larry Bird

Sat Jul 31, 2004 9:38 pm

haha, refs suck. The ref today had it out for us, he had PMS cos he lost his game

anyways, we lost by 7, i scored 15pnts in the second half, most of them by playing SG. I scored 6 straight points at one stage going to my classic MJ baseline fadeaway move. Thats a play i score a lot on, it was good to get my stroke goin. My other go to move is the Steve Nash running lane jumper.

playoffs next week...time to kick ass

OK, he is about 6'4'' he is currently ranked #1 in the country to be a sophmore and his other teammate Billy Walker is ranked #2 in the country(both on the D-ONE Greyhound). He had 4 dunks on the same person on our team  . He likes to shoot a lot which is not his strong point in the game because when he was shooting the threes we were winning by 15  but in the second half it turned into a run and gun game with O.J. Mayo and Billy Walker throwing oops to each other and each getting a lot of dunks. So basically they turned there game up a little bit and ended up beating us by 10 points (somewhere around there). If you want some more information Google the guy, he is everywhere

Not really THAT good...I'm just plain ol' SILLY, Straight up.

Sun Aug 01, 2004 6:01 pm

i once fly kicked an ipswich grammer player in the stomach in a high school GPS game coz he was being a smartass thinkin hes top shit and when i kicked him i knew i wasnt gonna block his shot so i fully stuck my leg out got him good too and no foul was called     and another high school memory was my 14 blocks in 1 game against toowoomba grammer includin a swatted the hell out of a 6'4 guys jump shot that sent the whole stadium nuts for 1-2 minutes (i was around 6'0 at the time). Another was a club game when i receieved a full court pass from baseline after 3 free throws had been shot froma foul and threw down a mad dunk to beat the clock to send the game into OT (my 1st real game dunk). i do have more good old times as well.
