just wanted to add that i also did this and it works. i actually set my "seta image_cacheMegs" to 256. i read that if you have atleast 700meg ram then you can set it to 256. it works great. playing on high detail in 1024 res now and its flawless. i dont have a kick ass pc either. i am working with a amd 1.5 with 756 ram and a geforce fx 5200 vid card.

so basicly i am backing what he just told you to do.

yup it works flawlessly on my doom3 when i used this tweak so i think many people will need this when u play doom3 on low end PC

I know i posted that setaimages tweak before i had really tested it properly, but i have to say that it does nothing because its not switched on, its switched OFF by default, if you look above the setaimage you will see seta image_useCache "0", the "0" means OFF("1" being ON), if you switch it on the game will crash before the main menu's. As for Winrar, because of the way the Game engine compreses textures within the GPU ram(read the hardware guide posted by bishibashiboy) it going to have NO effect what so ever, what do you think the game is doing when your sat there waiting for it to load................uncompressing data.(I dont mean to sound rude or offensive)

If you want the best from your machine when playing DoomIII, update your system to the absolute latest drivers wherever possible. Im going through the game for a 2nd time and i have stopped useing all the "So called" tweaks because after actualy testing and comparing performance none of them actualy work. Im running DX9c & Cat4.9's with game settings at High, 16xAF with everything switched on @ 1280x1048 and i get 60fps+, my refresh rate is set at 75hz and i still get screen tearing!

I think the gamespot review covers this game well. Extra-ordinary graphics..everything else is "meh". I'm gonna complete it though.

i got Doom 3 today and i must say it is awesome.

i manage to run it on high quality 1024x768 with shadows and specular turned off though.

Awesome game IMO, scared the shit outta of me lol.

Any one attempting to play through the game on Nightmare should shoot everybody on Mars City, when you 1st get the pistol. Ignore the guys behind the glass and you will get a little surprise
