Forum Changes - An attempt at an Open Dialogue

Other video games, TV shows, movies, general chit-chat...this is an all-purpose off-topic board where you can talk about anything that doesn't have its own dedicated section.

the staff at nbalive.org had no problem with the NLSC having rotating logos..

My apologies, I obviously misunderstood the nature of those posts. It's a fair comment though - we should be trying be as original as possible.

I liked the rotating logos idea.

It's not stealing, it was just simply a great idea (Y)

Since this is the "NBA Live Series Center", why don't we put NBA Live players on rotating logos (like the main one now) instead of regular NBA players.

Andrew wrote:The Kobe thread was created to control the amount of discussions that were all turning into Kobe related topics. It has been attempted on some other forums (I believe RealGM was one) with players such as Kobe and LeBron.

Why don't we just have a thread for Kobe's off-court issues instead of one pertaining to all of his events on both the on-court and off-court. What is the point of having an official thread that deals with Kobe when there are just as many LeBron James threads?

Also, just a rant, I hate file planet. I have to register a new account everytime I go there. :x

I've made a seperate post to go over specific rule amendments, offering my thoughts on the matter. I would like some input though, as I've gone through rule-by-rule.

Rule Amendments

We could do that...I'd just like to focus on the more pressing issue of the forum rules first.

That's a better idea, though it might not necessary be a sticky thread. I think we could probably go back to multiple Kobe threads, but as I said we should avoid having multiple threads dedicated to the same topic ie. we don't need 15 threads about where Kobe is going to go.

ruffryder8 wrote:Also, just a rant, I hate file planet. I have to register a new account everytime I go there.

Hopefully we won't have to worry about that for too much longer. :)

hmm... i see problems in this too... would dotorg have a problem with it if the logo used one of their player patches? :(

Just remember your password?? On my comp the password is saved with the browser.... file-planet isn't that much of a hassel unless there's a lineup for the file you want...

I can't log back in. I go there and I try to log in but it won't let me. Now I can re-register with the same user name every 3 days or so.

I'm not blasting you in particular, but I think this is a place to start to where the forum needs to start growing up. Would you rather see EG and Andrew closing and moving topics without warning? So you come and go, "WTF?!?11" I visit a lot of active forums with a lot of discussions that do sometimes get out of hand or off track and the mod does his job by leaving a reason then following with the action. I'm not saying it's in the Official Etiquette Rules of the Internet or anything pathetic like that, but it's extremely customary for mods to do such things.

whats with all the drama??? imo, both mods are better than okay, they're excellent. If it werent for them this would be a forum full of little kids trying to sound cool every post....... waitaminute.... :D

Anyway, i stick to the nba talk most of the time if ever because if i wanted to fucking socialize i'd go outside, but i think most of the bad blood brews in general talk. You should probably just have a section for the idiots to bang heads against each other so we dont have to deal with that kind of crap. this is an nba live forum isnt it?

anyway, regarding the reason this nonsense occured -- yes, maybe there were some mistakes made, i really dunno what happened with the jackal banning thing cuz, uh, i really didnt care (not that i dont care about jackal, i love jackal, but you know what i mean), but oh well, ho hum. Life goes on. If all else fails, remember, quality over quantity. Anyway, give eg a second chance, maybe he's just going through stressful times or something and was tired of reading through all yours shit. you guys ever think of that? everyones human.

If i was a moderator and had to read through half of that moronic stuff in general talk i'd puke.

Everyone who wants to find anything. If Andrew and the mods weren’t moving theses topic’s, the forum would sooner or later become a maze where you would have to look in every single section to find what you were actually looking for.

David wrote:It is really annoying when you come onto the forum to read 50 new posts.. and 25 of those are from mods saying "post moved to" etc

This isn’t the mods fault. It’s just some members that not always post at the right place.

Actually he should be since it proves that he does he job when moving these topic that shouldn’t be in the blablabla section etc to the right section intead.

About the mods.

Myself have never had been threaten unfairly by Egarret or any other mod. Though Egarret has complained, warned and banned my sig, I can honestly say that he were right in those issues.
I’ve also been warned for calling Shane thubby (in a more provoking way) which I also deserved to be warned for.

I think the mods here @ NLSC are doing there job good (almost everyone).

And if you guys want to get rid of all the flaming that’s going on, it’s easy.
Delete the general & NBA section and keep the forum just about NBA live. Then I could almost garanty that there would be no looked threads, banning, flaming etc.
However, the place would lose it’s touch and get mad boring 2 I’m afraid. So screw that suggestion, but if we only had these section, We wouldn’t be writing here.

Where did I say that the mods should not move posts? I said there is no point in posting in the topic that the thread has been moved. For starters when they move a thread they use the option to leave a link thread in the old section which points to the post in the correct section. Also adding a post to the thread to say the post has been moved.. stating the obvious and just spamming the forums is stupid in my opinion.

david is totally right here... when i was a noob(and still am) and i usually posted some questions especially about sliders and the reply i would get from andrew is "use existing threads".. back then i didnt even know what a thread was so i basically get a bit annoyed... cause when i see that andrew has replied and see that i didnt get my question answered, it gets really disappointing...

The reason why I came to this site as an active compared to nbalive.org was because this site seemed better ran. It also had the downloads I wanted and I could easily work the boards here.

When I had a question, I could PM Andrew and by the next day I would have a response.

I am not going to compare sites because both sites have their (Y) and (N)

I just hope the rules can be fixed, so that everyone can get along and not worry about "over modding".

The keyword is to respect everyone around you and a lot of things can be avoided.

Remember everything can be fixed or replaced.

Yeah because there are no problems on any of the other sections.

I like the idea of that section actually. Although, General Talk is, and always will be an important part of the NLSC. The sad reality is without the occassional "drama", the place is just boring. "The Official I Want To Raise My Post Count Thread" "The Official 'Yay I Raised My Post Count' Thread" "Should I be faithful?" etc etc.
Magius wrote:(not that i dont care about jackal, i love jackal, but you know what i mean)

The very reason I disagreed with Jackal being banned initially. The only way to improve the quality of the posts at the forum, is to have more quality posters. I see Jackal as a quality poster, I see Homer as something else.

The main difference is that the NLSC has been around for a long time, and it has been moderated differently in the past. The fact that most "vets" would rate the old NLSC as a more enjoyable place to post at means something has changed for the worse. I dont think it's anything specific though.

Ok James if this is true then I would like to know what you felt was not run well at .org. How are these boards easier to work than the ones at .org? Please do not respond in this thread as it is supposed to be about the NLSC. But as director of nbalive.org of course I am interested when people say they were not happy with things.. please email me at david@nbalive.org or you are welcome to post your thoughts at nbalive.org. Back on track..

While it is nice that Andrew responds to PM'd questions.. how does responding to the PM help others? He should be encouraging you to post your questions on the forum.. so that when he answers your question everyone can see it and it helps more than 1 person..

Depends on whether or not what is discussed fits in with the rest of the forum or if it's anyone else's business. Thats why it's called "personal" messages. Not everything is entitled to be public.

Sorry, but I didn’t read properly enough to understand that your were actually just critize Andrew and mods of posting “topic moved”.

But the idea still holds, it’s their job to move the topics (if it’s in wrong section offcourse) as well as it is to inform the members that the topic has been moved since the ppl that are observing the thread with high chances wanna know where the thread went. However, if this is the most worried “problem” to complain about the forum, I would say that this forum is near to perfection.

First of all I would guess that Andrew kinda expected that you knew what a thread was, lol.
Second of all, it would be real annoying if people keept doing new threads about the same thing that has already been awnsered in a similar thread. So no wrong here from NLSC here as well.

Slam, that's inapropriate I thinks.

It's not NBA-live.org's fault that they don't have Gamespy backing them.

If the NLSC wasn't funded by gamespy, the NLSC would also have same problems about payments and keeping the site up.

Don't start with something you have no idea about. It's not worth it and shows how much you know about something.

I wish people would stop complaining about .org's downtime...hopefully soon folks won't have a reason to.

so generally, what some of you guys want are mods with basically no lives. I mean you expect them to be all pretty and pink and treat everyone nicely and answer all your questions. come on, no ones getting paid here.

the problem with this forum is the quality of poster. There are a lot of idiots around and they seem to chase away the ones that having something other than :D to say.

anyway, I guess i was a bit harsh on general talk, i'm all for being friendly and evertyhing, but there are sometimes some real stupid topics in there. Even nba talk is getting kinda boring -- I mean whats the point of trying to get anything across to a bunch of cows? I don't need them to agree with me, just you know, grow half a brain or something.

Theres plenty of good posters still around i think, and its pretty common sense who the cancers are, lets not be stupid and try to treat everyone fairly. Boot out the village idiots. (im not referring to homer exactly, actually i found homer good entertaintment value) :D You can't make everyone happy.

Nah, I'm not saying that about the mods.

I'm asking for the mods to be a bit more like us, a bit less High & Mighty, a bit more us.

I know I shouldn't, but I will..

Last time I checked, Yohance was a mod. Not a high & mighty one, he's one of us.

EG doesn't have to leave, he should just calm down.
