the only way i can win in the later stages of the game is to have a car that is better than all of the others in the race

I'm not even going to bother with the Nascar series. (N) I haven't really tried the Formula GT yet, but I'm looking forward to it.

Finished the 4 hour endurance race today on A-Spec. Talk about boring. Driving a crappy MX-5 for 4 hours against crappier MX-5s. :|

i just barely got to that level and decided to check that race out. so what happens? once the clock hits 4:00:00 they take who ever is 1st? or do they finish the lap out?

Re: Gran Turismo 5

Fri Dec 24, 2010 11:15 am

Yeah, once the clock reaches 4 hours you finish the lap you're on and whoever has done the most laps is the winner.

By the end I was 20 laps up so I was able to just sit at the finish line for the last 15-20 minutes. (Y)

lol yeah i wasn't at the right level yet, and i bought a brand new miata and put everything i possibly could into it in preparation and when i got to the level, i didn't think it was gonna be actually 4 hours so i gave up lol

Re: Gran Turismo 5

That's why I did so much B-Spec. All you have to do is give your driver the fastest car and let him drive.

You don't have to sit there and concentrate for hours.

Miata? Seriously Q? Of all the cars you can get, a Miata?

Re: Gran Turismo 5

Fri Dec 24, 2010 5:38 pm

well the 2nd endurance race is a miata specific race. i bought the cari n preparation, but i wound up not doing it due to time/sanity constraints.

Just started my career in this. Disappointed by the lack of events, but there is still quite a bit of game here. Enjoying the game a lot, though I suck at using high powered cars (tried the F40 on Cote D'Azur without driving aids and got owned). Working on silvering all the licenses (got too frustrated trying to gold them) at the moment.

Yeah, they could've added the dealership events like on GT4.
Maybe they'll add them in future updates like they did with the online 'seasonal events' in the latest one.

Kaz said in a recent interview that standard cars will be updated to premium. Don't know how many or which ones though.
I'm looking forward to lots of updates over the next few months. :)

i gotta say i was pretty disappointed with the car selection in the regular dealerships. i understand they only wanted to include only premium cars in the dealerships but i hate looking in the used car lot for a specific car i want. there are tons of manufacturers featured in the game that they don't list in that screen.

i didn't really bother with licenses. you don't need them to race in races which is not like the past GTs but it was refreshing because i would have given up if i couldn't get past a certain level because of my inability to get a license. by the time i need XP only, the amount of XP you gain in the tests aren't anywhere near what you would want or need, so there's no point in doing them in my opinion.

they better come out with the DLC cars soon or else, i won't even be playing the game by the time they come out and they won't get my money.

Yeah, some of the game design decisions seemed odd. For an oft-delayed game that took nearly six years, it sure seemed rushed. What bugs me is the absence of my favorite tracks. Really hope Seattle and Midfield Raceway return.

Re: Gran Turismo 5

Mon Dec 27, 2010 11:00 pm

i hated midfield. some of the japanese tracks tsukuba/suzuka emulate it pretty well. i don't like those ones either. you know, i really miss the red rock one from GT2 i think. i really liked seattle circuit too but i guess they moved that track to oklahoma city too.

Re: Gran Turismo 5

Loved Midfield. Was a great high speed course. Red Rock Valley was a lot of fun. That, Tahiti and Grindelwald are among the GT2 tracks that I wish would return.

Not very far in the game but it is a lot easier to make money in the early going than it was in past games. Already have 100K+ despite only finishing a few events. What do you guys think of B-Spec? I never understood why it existed but it's a nice way to get money and B-Spec would be a great thing to run while doing homework or something.

oh man i loved all the tahiti races especially the tahiti maze rally race. yeah the special events are a great way to win money/xp early and i'm not a fan of b-spec but the only reason why i do it is to gain money while eating. i obviously can't race and eat at the same time, so i let them make money for me.

That's why you'll never be a pro and rely on videogames to satisfy your racing desires.

I am absolutely atrocious at the game. Think I'm just going to do the B-Spec career because I am completely hopeless. Tried doing the FR Challenge with tmy souped-up, overpowered RX-7, but spun out at least once per lap

Re: Gran Turismo 5

Tue Dec 28, 2010 7:03 pm

you need to turn on traction control and the stuff that keeps you from spinning out. FRs are hard to control sometimes (especially the Lotus Elise) and going full throttle without the driving aids will mess you up big time

Re: Gran Turismo 5

Tue Dec 28, 2010 7:35 pm

I don't play with driving aids, as I'm a fan of realism and a challenge. May need to bump it to 3 or 4 for the RX-7 as I try to get better at using it though. Thing is a real handful.

Yeah, or buy some racing tyres.

I'm loving my new 1500 HP play toy. Got it past 500 km/h the other day at Indianapolis.

Did the same thing for that Skyline I got. I've been wanting to play it again, but then I play the more action movie esk GRID and loose interest again.

Settled on TCS = 0; ABS = 1, MT. With ABS at 0, the game is just impossible. Not too far into the game - A-Spec level 11. One thing that I'm sure most people are fond of that I don't like is how easy it is to make money early on. I kind of miss that early struggle to make money. (Though I'm still proud of myself for my start in GT3: golding the B license, then using the Miata I won in the Apricot Hill enduro) Kart races and NASCAR school give you far too much money.
