They should really call it WCW then. They own that name, and it's much more recognised and they don't have the ties with extreme.

They certainly could, though perhaps Vince McMahon wouldn't be keen to resurrect it as a brand. I guess we just have to accept that they're keeping the ECW moniker and it's not going to be a true resurrection of the ways of the old promo, it's there to build up and coming talent.

Mickey Rourke and Y2J at WrestleMania?

Re: WWE Thread

Fri Jan 30, 2009 2:21 am

Seems that way.
But did you see that interview with Rourke they showed on Raw? He took Jericho's name out of nowhere, what would he have against him? Not a single reason mentioned, ust wanting to kick his ass.
The bad thing is that guest appearances always win, especially at Wrestlemania. So Jericho is going to lose against somebody who is supposed to be a frickin actor. Now, prowrestlers are actors too, but doesn't it take a whole lot of credibility from the wrestlers to lose against an actor?

I'm finding it funny though that they're actally going with this angle, at first Vince didn't seem to happy about that movie.
It does reveal the things you're not supposed to be aware of while watching professional wrestling. The blading etc..

Re: WWE Thread

How about a bigger celebrity angle? Or no celebrity angle at all? It's the 25th WrestleMania, they better make this one great.

Re: WWE Thread

Fri Jan 30, 2009 9:00 am

Rourke has received wrestling training for his role in The Wrestler and if anyone can make the match look good it would be Jericho but I agree, he's one of the top heels on RAW and established himself in the main event scene again so it doesn't feel right that he puts over a celebrity. Not only that, but he's recently won the World Heavyweight championship twice and if you allow a celebrity to go over him, you're basically saying that someone from Hollywood could, in kayfabe, be good enough to win a world title.

Rourke won't be in WM25, from what I've read. Seems they've scrapped the idea.

Re: WWE Thread

I read that too, of course it could be a work to advance the angle but I guess we'll have to wait and see.

Getting back to things that are happening, Matt Hardy's promo on Smackdown was great in my view but he was pretty over as a face himself so I think he'll still be a hard sell as a heel to begin with, at least as far as really hot heel heat is concerned.

Re: WWE Thread

I'm thinking that Christian will be the person who is the mastermind for the sabotage on Jeff, but with Matt turning heel, I don't know.

Re: WWE Thread

Sat Jan 31, 2009 10:45 am

It could still happen. Matt is still denying that he was responsible for the attacks and sabotage so they could still reveal Christian as the person behind it all but that might be a little too much for the angle, unless there's going to be some affiliation between Matt, Edge and Christian.

Would it be too over the top for christan to come back and side with Jeff Hardy?

Re: WWE Thread

Sun Feb 01, 2009 9:38 am

Hehe, I was thinking the same. Edge and Matt Hardy vs Christian and Jeff Hardy. And we could have TLC again

Re: WWE Thread

Sun Feb 01, 2009 10:25 am

For sure, that could happen but I think Edge would have to drop the title and they'll probably want to do Matt/Jeff one on one first. I'm surprised Christian didn't make a surprise return at the Rumble but that might suggest he'll be part of this angle one way or another.

Re: WWE Thread

Sun Feb 01, 2009 1:40 pm

I guess Christian will not return for the next two weeks because I saw the spoilers for the two next Smackdown and no signs of him.

Re: WWE Thread

Sun Feb 01, 2009 1:50 pm

You should use the spoiler tags if you're going to post spoilers. ;)

Code:
[spoiler]Spoiler[/spoiler]

I could see him returning at a PPV as part of a swerve and to avoid his return being spoiled by the news sites, unless of course they decide to put him on RAW in which case they don't have to worry about reports from tapings spoil the surprise. I think they are perhaps mindful of Chris Jericho's return which became the worst kept secret in wrestling, though it's got to be hard to keep a lid on things with sites doing their best to get the inside scoop.

Re: WWE Thread

Sun Feb 01, 2009 2:29 pm

Certainly. But I guess that the supposed storyline is that Christian should be the guy behind the attacks on Jeff.

Anyway, here are some screencaps of the Rumble I found that shows 'Taker without the Sara tattoos.

I don't blame him for getting it removed in light of the divorce. Probably just as painful to get it removed as it was to get it done in the first place though.

Re: WWE Thread

Mon Feb 02, 2009 5:48 am

I thought he's just putting make-up on the tattoo but I might be wrong.

Re: WWE Thread

Mon Feb 02, 2009 6:00 am

He could well be but given the divorce and his relationship with Michelle McCool it wouldn't surprise me if he was in the process of getting it removed.

Wrestling Revealed And WWE.com said that Ric Flair will be part of Red Alert 3: Uprising video game. His character is Commander Hill.

Never thought that Ric Flair will be part of a video game(except from Wrestling games). I got the picture from caws.ws.

Read about that on WNW last week. It's nice to see him getting respect from other industries and being able to pursue these other opportunities.

Re: WWE Thread

It's pretty logical I guess. The game, afterall, has MMA stars in Gina Carano and Randy Couture as well as some hollywood types like Jenny McCarthy and Kelly Hu.

Re: WWE Thread

True, it's not so unbelievable but wrestling is so often maligned.

As far as video game companies though, I think there would be a decent amount of wrestling fans especially the older wrestlers.
