Alleluia for an okay episode...It had a few very annoying moments (the Peter-John Wayne impression joke), but I thought it had enough good jokes to make it more than average, which is pretty rare these days with FG. I thought Stewie's "incomplete cutaway" was pretty funny, even though it can once again be considered as an acknowledgment of this show's questionable foundations, aka jokes that are totally unrelated to the story/main theme.

Guess I'm the odd one out, as I thought it was pretty lousy. Peter's John Wayne impression was painful the first time and then they had to go and do it three more times. Too many jokes that they didn't just kill, but proceeded to dismember in that one.

the only great line in this episode was
"i'm pretty sure there's a pedophile up the street but no one does anything about it because he's so damn funny"
A little too much self acknowledgement in this one...several jokes referencing itself. Just seems...cocky i guess

I'm a big stephen king guy so the premise of this seemed alright. but..the parodies seemed lazy. This episode seemed rushed and almost like a treehouse of horror crappy ripoff. The crippling joe jokes made me laugh though

that was an old episode BTW, not new
Mon Oct 19, 2009 11:48 am
was it? hell i havent watched in alot of years then.
Mon Oct 19, 2009 1:29 pm
Yup, it was a rerun, pretty much just because they don't have a "Treehouse of Horror" equivalent for Halloween time...
Still thought the Shawshank Redemption one was pretty good though.

There were two new episodes last night. The first one was Brian getting with an older woman, which was highly predictable in many ways, and felt like it had already been done to death before. Some good jokes here and there, but the main story was really kind of weak.
The second one was the evil monkey finally getting his 15 minutes of fame. I thought that one was a little better, even though Chris questioning Peter's father skills has already been done several times before too. And the Hannah Montana part was okay, but if it was really meant to be some sort of Disney satyre, then it felt like half-assed amateur work compared to what South Park did last year for example.

I just want some continuality, remember when Brian's long lost son killed the evil monkey? no? ok, well it doesnt matter cause he got an episode
both episodes had good jokes and cutaways, they were funny, but the stories were worn and just bland

remember when Brian's long lost son killed the evil monkey? no?
I completely forgot about that...Since that episode was one of the worst they ever made, I guess I repressed it from my memories.
Not surprising something like this would occur in FG though.

For some fun while watching, you could try counting the amount of shots made at the expense of women during family guy.

Highlights: "Those are balls", Quagmire going back to punch Chris, "DVDs! Oh, books".
Lowlights: Pretty much everything else. Two lousy episodes on the whole.

Wow, great pic Andrew. I forgot how different the characters were in the first seasons.
This does make me a little sad though, as it has also made me realize how Homer evolved from a retard who means well to just an uncaring retard, and how Marge also just takes up space now.

That last episode was pretty awful once again. A few good jokes here and there, but each story or sub-story feels forced and cheap now, it's just not the same anymore.

I thought it was decent, I mean not great stuff, but a decent episode.

Guess it was rip off movies in McFarlane land this time. Is there an American Dad thread?
Tue Nov 17, 2009 7:47 am
No but there should be. Last night's American Dad was hilarious

very underwhelmed by quagmire's baby episode...just wasnt alot to it and too many stories going on at the same time
Tue Nov 17, 2009 5:21 pm
First half was weak, second half had a few laughs. Some good Quagmire stuff, the rest was mostly meh to awful.
Mon Nov 23, 2009 12:28 pm
Quagmire's verbal rape of Brian was one of the greatest things in Family Guy history.
Mon Nov 23, 2009 2:55 pm
I concur, best moment in family for a few seasons

Well, what he was ranting about was certainly all true, but it was still pretty irritating to watch. It was pretty much expressing why Brian has become such a sterile and boring character, but at the same time, you would expect the writing process to improve such weaknesses, not to point the finger at them with an accurate but unfunny diatribe. To me, it's those types of moments that just remind me too easily why the show has gone completely downhill in the past couple of seasons. You can say that maybe it takes some guts to indirectly admit your shortcomings (just like they may have done a few episodes ago when they mentioned the Conway Twitty or chicken fights cutaways), but I personally think that it's still pretty much shooting yourself in the foot, and it doesn't help the show in any way. If anything, you feel worse about the fact that you somehow keep watching it...
As far as this episode, it was complete garbage, one of the worst I've seen. When even Quagmire isn't funny at all, you know there's something seriously wrong.
The story was weak, it had a couple of good jokes, but some of the cutaways were once again far too long, and others were way off. Last week's episode was somewhat tolerable, but this was mostly awful.

Cheap shots galore and raking in millions. The guy who said life isn't fair was on to something.

I agree completely. It's dressed up as being self-deprecating, but at the same time it's celebrating those weak points, subtly pointing the finger at "all those geeks on the Internet" who don't appreciate their "brilliance". Seth essentially calling out his own avatar is just weird and won't change anything in the long run. Sure, it put Brian in his place for once but who cares about the characters in Family Guy? What incentive have they given us, particularly in the last couple of seasons, to care about them? It just came off as filler to me.

Agreed again. Par for the course these days.
