But even that is better than Live 07

I bought it for PS2 and stayed up till 6 AM trying everything out in the game...

i mean, 3 team trades is something Live attempted and failed to implement in Live 2001, and they haven't tried it ever since. 2k7 has done well with it. Love the playground games (especially 21). Jerseys (on the frontend "quick game" screen) are a little disturbing... pretty shitty, but the game makes up for it.
I don't know what you other guys are complaining about when this is exactly like 2k6, but it sure is a hell of a lot better than Live 07. I like the fact that 2k has USER PROFILES that Live hasn't had in a long time. Plus, you can play against your friend's profile without him being there. One thing that bothered me was that the roster sucked. I knew they had Thabo which Live does not, but Live definitely has the edge on 2k7 as far as rosters go. 2k7 has more retired players than missing veterans currently on teams (I know, exaggerated, but Glenn Robinson is the top FA in 2k7). The Air Hockey and Darts are added bonuses. I like it how in 2k7 you have more things to do than just play regular NBA Games. In live, you can only play exhibiton games or dynasty games when AS Weekend gets old.

A few things bother me about 2k7: The commentary isn't as good as Live. It does get annoying. and second, the passing reminds me of Live 2005 (read: shitty float passes that get intercepted)
other than that, I am glad I paid $20 US for this game. :P

and the best surprise I got was Rick Barry doing an under-hand free throw

I had live, now I have 2k7. One thing I will tell you, Live's player models blow away 2k7's....its not even close.

I fiddled with my sliders and most of the stupid bounce passes to a guy 4 ft away are gone, same with the jumping passes, only get 1 or 2 of those a game. There is a difference from 2k6 to 2k7, even with both user and CPU steal and pass interception to 0, both me and the CPU get over 10 steals per game. This was never a problem in 2k6. Also there are a hell of alot more stupid turnovers in this years game. Such as randomly dribbling out of bounds and alot more shots that go behind the backboard. Though with some adjustments to CPU off awareness and ballhandling etc. this may be fixable. But I definately think 2k needs a boundary force field slider thing like Live has. Besides that I'm really happy with this years game. Finaly got my sliders fixed to the point where I'm happy (though some things still could be fixed), and finally got my first win. It was against Charrlotte, and it wen't into overtime, but hell my Cavs still won. 111-109 biotch, and LeBron got the first triple double on 2k7 for me :) This game is definately worth 30 some bucks

Ive got a few questions about the PS2 Version...

- Is the VIP system there?
- Is there the 24/7 mode, and is this mode like Dynasty, only...better?
- How hard is it to update rosters using PS2
- Im assuming there is no Steve Nash finger licking, or Lebrons biting?
- Is there a dynasty mode at all?
- If so, can you do 29game seasons

If someone could answer all (or any) of that itd be great

I was not dissapointed.

The graphics are great, the gameplay smoothe, and all in all I like it. The halftime show is awesome. I love the game.

So, am I a traitor? :D

By the way, I have PS2.

dude, I think i made the decision to get 2k7 too.

you are not a traitor, you just have enough self esteem to not buy a inferior product and be taken for granted.

Exactly. It's your money, spend it wisely. I haven't played NBA Live in years and I don't regret it. Let's tell it like it is, EA got lazy. Just look at the Madden series. It's too bad football gamers have no other option.

Sun Oct 01, 2006 5:55 pm

I'll try and answer some questions.

-24/7 is like NBA Street crossed with NBA 06: The Life. I think. Like Madden Superstar mode but 1 on 1 streetball.
- Dynasty is to Live as Association is to 2k. The Association kicks ass, a huge amount of depth.
- I assume you can do 29 games, we could with 2k6 and that had the option of setting training days each day. But thats because the training works differently.

-Yes, VIP is there. It's new to me, and I think it's cool to read some analysis on your playing style(Y)
-They actually took out 24/7 mode for current-gen
-My PS2 is not conneted to the internet, but I would imagine 2k has roster updates online. not 100% sure though
-no finger biting. there are signature shots though. MArion, Iverson, Kobe, Payton are some of the ones I've noticed. They also have FT rituals and so the Nash licking might be there.
-yes there's a dynasty mode. It was pretty decent, comparable to Live 06's dynasty mode.
-and yes, you can do a full 82, half or a short season

how did you fix them with the sliders? I've played around with the slders a little bit but it's still annoying me :?

i've got a question as a long-time live fan, who is about to jump ship to 2k7:

How is 2k7 in terms of pickup-and-play ability. I mean, are the controls difficult to pick up and master or can it get a bit confusing. I've never played a 2k game so i cant really compare it to anything.

the association mode sounds all right, as long as the rookie generation is done well. Any comments on that?

I've got a ps2, as well, i should add.

Mon Oct 02, 2006 2:47 am

The controls are frustrating at first, you'll probly find the isomotion and icon passing the most difficult at first. Since L2 is icon passing in Live, and L2 is intentional foul in 2k, that gets annoying if you've played Live for awhile. But once you get used to things like the shot stick and the different L1 and R1 combinations, the controls just seem natural. It's pretty easy to pick up and play for the most part, except for the isomotion, but it's not hard to figure out. As for the generated rookies, they are really amazing. No 6'1" SG or stupid things like that. They have player portraits of the generated rookies, and their names get called during games. The way the draft system works, a C+ SG with B+ potential, will usualy get drafted ahead of a A SG with D+ potential. So sometimes you can grab a pretty decend rookie to fill holes immediately, but over a couple of years, the C+ rookie will be better.

-Yes and it works great
-24/7 mode got taken out of current gen, it wasn't that great on current gen anyways, I'm glad they took it out to make room for better things
-With an online connection it's very easy, they update usually every month or so, or every big trade, it takes about 1 minute to get updated rosters
-No not on current gen sadly
-Yes it's association mode, easily best multi season mode for Basketball games, very deep
-Yes, it was last year so I'm thinking yes

I don't know the exact numbers, but I lowered CPU and human Flashy Passes quite abit. I think I MIGHT have raised CPU and human Off awareness a bit, but not much.

BTW in the guide it says bounce pass is O button, but actually its L1 and X, that was buggin me for awhile.

Mon Oct 02, 2006 3:11 am

I must say i'm not really impressed. It's the exact same game as 2K6.

If it isn't broken, don't fix it.

As for the EA product, they know it's broken and yet they have little effort in fixing it.

Mon Oct 02, 2006 1:20 pm

lol@Traitor

it's a game  if you feel guilty for buying a differnet game that's pretty sad, but you did make the right decision (Y)

Mon Oct 02, 2006 4:31 pm

I think its time this website turned into the NBA Live and NBA 2K Series Center.

Or do the people running it have too many connections with EA and it would upset them?

Mon Oct 02, 2006 4:40 pm

If you're a true basketball fan its just the intelligent decision.

Sure EA were here first and most of us have been with them since the beginning but honestly what have they really done for us?

We want a basketball simulation and they give us a childrens arcade game.

They still get the sales because people dont know any better they just see the EA tag and they buy it.

Thats why people like us have to be loud in showing everyone else which is the better basketball game.

Maybe if 2K got the highest sales they would have more money for resources to make the game even better and do things like make a PC version?

It is sad that EA have chosen this path but its their own damn fault not ours.

Tue Oct 03, 2006 12:21 am

Thanks for the answers, volsey. (Y) I'm pretty well sold on 2k7 now. it means an extra 2 weeks wait for me than if i'd got live, but ultimately, it will be worth it.

I think that should be done also.

Tue Oct 03, 2006 2:32 pm

There may be something like that in the works...but don't ask Matthew about it.

Tue Oct 03, 2006 3:53 pm

IMO, if 2k goes on PC, then that change could be made.

At the moment, NLSC not NLN2SC for now.

Thats just my opinion and I dont make the decisions around here.

After reading a few reviews, i have decided to get a 360 and buy 2k7. I was gonna use the money for a new cell, but screw it. I've always a pc guy because of the flexibility, but EA has pushed me over the edge this year.

Wed Oct 04, 2006 1:31 pm

If I could afford it I would do the same :P

I hope I never see you again! (because ur too busy playing 2K on ur 360)

Wed Oct 04, 2006 2:08 pm

2k7 on the 360...BEST damn bball game I've EVER played

Wed Oct 04, 2006 2:23 pm

Yea I really wish I had next gen, Nov 17 baby PS3. Though I won't be getting one till mid 07 proby :( Alot of the players that looks like shit last year have be fixed up and look alot better now, such as Vince Carter, his skin tone is a hell of alot better, same with Nash, he looks great (besides still having long hair). Anyways I played online couple nights ago and I gotta say it was pretty fun. I usually don't play sports games online cause of cheesers, but most of the games I played were pretty good. Glad I didn't decide to pay 5 bucks and rent Live 07.

Wed Oct 04, 2006 3:47 pm

Finally got 2k7 for xbox. It kicks live 07 in the nuts. gameplay pretty much the same from 2k6. love the jumpshot animations. does the current gen 2k7 have the same amount of jump shot anims as next gen?
