How about now?

Reached level 25 on A-Spec last night and unlocked Endurance Events.
I was on lap 34 of 60 in the first one and I accidentally clicked 'restart' instead of 'continue' after I'd paused it.

God I fucking want this game so bad!

Re: Gran Turismo 5

Tue Dec 07, 2010 4:49 pm

hey phil what car did you use to beat (in expert races) the old-car event [the race that's to the left of center] and gran turismo all-stars? the veyron won't stay on the track for me in all-stars, and the buick isn't fast enough against those damn old race cars

Re: Gran Turismo 5

Tue Dec 07, 2010 5:16 pm

You mean the Historic event? I haven't done that yet. Have a read of this.

I used the MINOLTA race car to beat the All-Stars. I won it from the 'Like the Wind' event in Extreme.

Re: Gran Turismo 5

yup. i might try dumping money into the countach but i just bought the sls amg (the car on the cover. it's the one they show in commericals with the doors that open up like wings) and am planning on running the schwarzvald league b and then if it gives me enough XP, the like a wind. for like the wind, do you just use the veyron and blow people away?

Re: Gran Turismo 5

Tue Dec 07, 2010 8:54 pm

On the Dayton course I think I used the Veyron. But It's handling is too crap to beat the Indianapolis race.

For that I used my Mazda Furai concept, fully tuned. Also with these settings:
- Lower it fully.
- Racing soft tires.
- Set downforce to full.
- Set top speed to full.

Your main advantage is through the first two corners. And you may have to block at the end. I only won by 0.07 seconds.

Re: Gran Turismo 5

Tue Dec 07, 2010 9:01 pm

oh ok. i don't have a Furai and i haven't reached level 21 yet. will my maxed out Gallardo or Enzo work?

Re: Gran Turismo 5

Tue Dec 07, 2010 9:08 pm

I'm not sure. The main thing is keeping your speed up through the corners. Anything that can do a lap around Indy in ~40s should be more than enough.
Btw, you get the Furai by winning the NR-A Roadster Cup in Amateur.

Re: Gran Turismo 5

Tue Dec 07, 2010 9:20 pm

i think i sold it. how many HP did it have?

Re: Gran Turismo 5

Tue Dec 07, 2010 9:27 pm

Mine has 566HP. :giggity:

Re: Gran Turismo 5

Tue Dec 07, 2010 10:14 pm

oh so pretty much any fast car will do on the Indy course?

Re: Gran Turismo 5

Tue Dec 07, 2010 10:27 pm

I think maybe you should test out your fastest cars on the Indy track in practice and see which does the quickest lap.
If one of your cars can do laps of 45 seconds or less, then you're probably ready to do the race. (Y)

It's all about how much speed you can carry around the corners.

B-Spec just got interesting. I'm up to Extreme events and all the races are like 10-30 laps and you can use 2 drivers in each race.

Atm I've got a 30 lap wet race at Suzuka going. (Y)

Re: Gran Turismo 5

Wed Dec 08, 2010 5:34 pm

sooo i think i'm stuck right now. schwarzwald league b is finished with my R8/SLS AMG combo and leveled up to 21 now i can't seem to beat like the wind. i didn't know it was daytona road course which is impossible with the veyron. i can't seem to keep up and stay on the track on the indy course. can't beat the elise top gear challenge. i beat all of the nascar events except for the last one. the two lap daytona race... it's like wtf it's me and the last guy heads up and the rest of the field 4 seconds ahead. also having trouble with the last dirt and tarmac rally races. still can't beat the historic and all-star races and i can't beat the like the wind events to get the car to beat them so yeah i'm screwed.

what do i do now? what race(s) or event(s) should i spam in order to get my money up to buy a nascar for the nascar event?

Re: Gran Turismo 5

Wed Dec 08, 2010 8:21 pm

The race I usually repeat for money is the Indy LTW race.
$70,000 in 3:20 minutes. It's how I saved up $4,800,000 for my Formula GT.

Once you beat the series once, you get the MINOLTA and that thing easily wins the event. You just have to find a way to beat it I think.

Re: Gran Turismo 5

Fri Dec 10, 2010 2:07 pm

i just looked it up and got the furai concept. you didn't mention you won it in b spec. it took me a while and $30k into my Miata but i won it. now th efurai gets me from a 1 on 1 battle with the last place car to a 3 way battle for 8th or 9th. i'll try it now with your suggested alterations to the car. downforce to full on both the front and back ends?

Re: Gran Turismo 5

Fri Dec 10, 2010 2:34 pm

Oh sorry, it was in B-Spec. I must have read the list wrong. :facepalm2:

But yeah, buy every upgrade for the Furai and use these settings.
- Lower it fully.
- Racing soft tires.
- Set downforce to full. Front and back.
- Set top speed to full.

I think I was in 5th gear for most of the race. Don't brake going into the corners, just let it decelerate by itself.
And you will probably have to block on the straights. It took me a few tries to get it right.

Re: Gran Turismo 5

Fri Dec 10, 2010 6:32 pm

wow i tried it with a little less than full on the gear ratios, managed to win by a second. i used the furai in the daytona one and freaking dominated (it handles like a dream on all of the corners) but i would manage to keep screwing up every race and never had a clean run, even managing to screw up a sure win on the last corner a few times. finally an hour later, i have my clean run and then mess up on that last chicane but not bad enough to lose it. the minota is crazy. on indy, i can get 40.8 second laps and finish 5 laps within 3:30

so is this pretty much that last car you need? i just wanna go for one "last car that i will ever need" and not have to worry about buying anything again. how's the formula gran turismo? where is it in the dealerships?

Re: Gran Turismo 5

Fri Dec 10, 2010 7:54 pm

The Formula GT is probably one of the best cars on the game. It will pretty much win anything you can enter it in.

It shows up in the used car dealership. It costs about $4,800,000 (like 70 x LTW Indy) and you have to be level 24 to use it.

Re: Gran Turismo 5

Fri Dec 10, 2010 8:03 pm

oh damn. i just got to level 22. i completed the like the wind series and was fairly close to 22 so i ran the minolta a few times to get me over.

looks like i have a lot of saving to do. i guess i will continue to collect money as i do the next set of races that opened up. have you done the nascar series yet? i bought a denny hamlin car but i haven't tried it yet. i have a feeling i will get owned because my car won't be faster than the others.

EDIT: HOLY FUCK please tell me you are close to getting this:

I've won the Nascar event in B-Spec, but I can't seem to figure it out on A-Spec. All the cars are the same and I couldn't get any advantage. (N)

If you haven't done the AMG Academy special events you should. They are easy to get silver in and you get lots of money and experience from them.

Re: Gran Turismo 5

Fri Dec 10, 2010 8:50 pm

ive done the amg challenges with a few silvers, but i gotta say they're pretty tough. i seem to do well in the first and last sections of nurburgring, the ones with the most straightaways. the other ones are hard.

i just discovered messing with the ASM and traction control yesterday. that's how i was able to beat the last top gear one with the elises. those elises go crazy every time you touch the X button, but ASM & traction control really kept it in line. try turning off traction control (the one that limits your accelerator) for nascar and see if it helps

Re: Gran Turismo 5

Sat Dec 11, 2010 2:26 am

the traction control kills rally races too

Re: Gran Turismo 5

Sat Dec 11, 2010 10:31 am

i wish i learned about that before i finished them. i would lead in the dirt one by a few seconds, then one twisty track would come along and i would lose by 20-30 secs
