Re: Scrubs Thread

Yeah i agree with Lamrock. I always liked Scrubs, but it was never really a show that made me crack up as hard as other shows did such as Sunny, Curb or Arrested Development.
I saw Scrubs as a funny show, which had me smiling and smirking throughout the episode but only rarely got some laughters out of me. That's why I never had high expectations for a Scrubs episode, and that's why I don't mind that new Season.

Same as Lamrock I actually like Cole and am annoyed by Lucy.

I guess I'll agree with Andrew then. I found out about the show a few years into its existence and at first I really wasn't interested in the concept, but it quickly turned into some of the funniest 22 minutes on TV for me. Last season was a little weird but still quite enjoyable, but this current season really hasn't brought anything good to the series in my opinion. I thought the first few episodes were okay, but that last one was really mediocre, and it certainly doesn't make me want to catch up on last week's episode, which I missed.
Given how much both the comedy and the drama were was based on the chemistry between the original cast, there's just no way this can work without JD & Cox, JD & Turk, Turk & Carla, Elliott & JD, JD & janitor guy, Ted,...
Disappointing stuff.

I also came into the show a couple of years after it debuted as well but once I gave it a chance I was immediately hooked and went back and watched the whole thing from the start. The original cast is carrying Season 9 to a certain extent but the new characters just don't fit.

Watched it from the start, FROM THE CREATOR OF SPIN CITY. How could you not? Real men know Bill Lawrence is clutch.

And that's why real men watch Cougar Town.

Re: Scrubs Thread

I never really watched Spin City so I wasn't aware of Bill Lawrence's epicness.

I didn't start watching the show until the wonderful Spring of 2007. That being one of the happiest times of my life, Scrubs will always have a special place in my heart.

Crossing my fingers for it to get renewed.

Jeez, what did I ever do to you? ;)

You know what? I've got to give credit where credit is due, I thought the last episode was pretty good. It helped greatly that it centred mostly on the original cast. Cole sucked the life and humour out of every scene he was in as did the rest of the new cast to a lesser extent (Denise really should've remained a background character, though her revenge on Dr Cox was funny) but the scene where Jordan cut him down to size in classic form? Fan-fucking-tastic, that's how you handle an annoying character in the main cast if you're not going to have them grow or develop. After that of course, he went back to being a third rate Stifler-like character in one of the straight-to-DVD American Pie movies but I guess that's how they want him to be. My jaded fanboy gripes aside, I felt it was one of the better episodes of the Med School half-spinoff.

I agree that it was one of the better episodes, with a major reason being most of the old characters being featured.

Agreed, for all the same reasons. A pretty enjoyable episode overall. Finally.

And we're back to Scrubs Anatomy. Not too bad I have to admit, the Turk-Cox dynamic definitely has its moments but as we're back to focusing on the new cast, I found it to be fairly ordinary.

I'm finding Denise to be pretty annoying lately. I thought she had some good moments in Season 8 as a minor recurring character but it's kind of like what's happened with Cleveland on The Cleveland Show. Some characters make for great one liners here and there and maybe you can thrust them into the spotlight for an episode as a change of pace but they can't carry a show and shouldn't be in the spotlight every week. For me, Denise is (or at least, has become) that kind of character.

Re: Scrubs Thread

Yeah, certainly not a fantastic episode to say the least. Denise has become very annoying indeed, and the rest of the bunch is just not solid enough to remind me of the good ol days. Well, they're obviously not going for that anyway, they're trying to reinvent themselves with this new cast, but considering the greatness of this show a few years ago, it's hard not to feel disappointed.

They should have done more episodes like this out of the box with some random non-JD/Elliott to ween us off. I'd keep watching if they'd replace those security guards with a couple more useful med students. I do like them because it reminds me of the old Scrubs before it sucked post J.D.-Elliot lean-in finale, where they were facing the challenges of the hospital foremost.

Not that it matters, since this is being cancelled like Better Off Ted.

Stupid ABC for airing BOT with a dead in the water show instead of with their epic Wednesday comedy block. Should have hooked Hank to Scrubs. (I think Hank should have gone a whole season too. Laugh track was its downfall.)

CLOSE ME UP! CLOSE ME UP!

since this is being cancelled like Better Off Ted.

I hope not, I really like that show. I never imagined Portia de Rossi (sp?) could be so hilarious.

So you never watched Arrested Development.

Re: Scrubs Thread

Sat Jan 30, 2010 10:32 am

I did actually, but only late in the show, just before it got canceled (they were not showing it in France). So yeah, I didn't see that much of her, I mostly remember her from...Ally McBeal.

Latest episode was alright, probably my favourite of the season not to include any of the original cast save for Cox, Turk and Kelso.

How did I not notice that Cole is played by Jame's Franco's younger brother?

Re: Scrubs Thread

Thu Feb 04, 2010 3:59 am

Yeah, the resemblance is eerie.

And what's up with that Drew guy having the EXACT same facial expressions as Dr. Cox? You'd think he's his son, but I'm guessing it's not the case.

Re: Scrubs Thread

Thu Feb 04, 2010 9:08 am

I'm guessing he's playing it that way, to emphasise Cox's actual willingness to (openly) be something of a mentor. Cox seeing more of himself personality-wise in Drew than in JD...which makes me wonder if the new episodes wouldn't be better if Drew wasn't as bland a character and the focus of the show rather than Lucy.

Donald Faison has left Scrubs (which is unofficially dead) for a CBS pilot.

Re: Scrubs Thread

Thu Feb 18, 2010 10:44 pm

Good for him, hope he does well post-Scrubs; whether or not it's that particular project remains to be seen, I guess. As for Scrubs, I think it would be a merciful end. They gave it a shot but it's not meant to be, not that I'm all that sorry. This post script season has had its moments but...well, I think I've made my thoughts about it pretty clear already, no need to repeat myself.

Re: Scrubs Thread

Fri Mar 12, 2010 12:50 pm

Damn, a perfectly good opportunity to kill Cole off completely wasted. Oh well, one more episode and then I guess a merciful end. As much as I've hated on it, I've got to give them credit for giving it a shot though. With better characters, it could've worked as a pseudo-spinoff.

Re: Scrubs Thread

Sat Mar 13, 2010 3:56 am

I wasn't sure if that one was a new episode, but yeah it sure sucked.
No chemistry between anyone anymore, it's pretty sad. And they just went too far with the Cole character, he's too stereotypical and annoying to keep watching.

I think he'd work great on your average teen drama series, but as I said before I find him a poor fit for Scrubs.
