I'd actually like to replace this one with people who eat, whistle or make "thinking sounds" while talking on the phone. Honourable mention also goes to people who want you to troubleshoot their problem but are nowhere near their computer or decided it would be best to switch it off just before calling you.

5 Favourite Game Winning Shots:
1. Mario Elie (Houston) 3 pointer from the baseline against the Phoenix Suns in 1995 to ice the series & end Barkley's last real chance of winning a title. That kiss off to the Phoenix crowd will be forever etched into my memory.
2. The steal by Bird from Isiah, pass to DJ for the game-winning layup. "What a play by Bird!!!"
3. Nick Van Exel (Lakers) running 3 pointer against the Spurs in 1996 (I think) to win a pivotal game in the playoffs. It was in San Antonio too. The commentator going crazy, brilliant.
4. Jordan (Bulls) shot over Ehlo in 87 or 89 playoffs. Just brilliant. A dagger if ever there was one.
5. Kevin Martin (Kings) steal & breakaway layup over Duncan & another Spur to win game 3 or 4 of last year's 1st Round playoffs.

I'm sure I've forgotten many, Derek Fisher's miracle shot against Spurs was good. Jerry West's buzzer beater. Phoenix against Celtics in triple OT in 1970s. Paxson three to beat Suns. There's many more though, but number 1 & 3 hold a special place in my basketball heart, as I saw them live.

Top 5 Clutch Performers that I've seen play basketball since starting to watch the game back in 1993:
1. Reggie Miller
2. Michael Jordan
3. Robert Horry
4. Manu Ginobili
5. Nick Van Exel

I guess "chchchchchch" - a repeated "ch" sound as in "church" and "churn" - would be the best way of describing it. Other people repeat a "t" sound or click or cluck (for lack of a better description). You'd be surprised how grating it is, especially when it's done loudly into the phone and it's made while contemplating an instruction such as "Click on the Start button".

Yeah that was an incredible game and series. That was the second year in a row that Houston came back from down 3-1 against Phoenix I believe.

Sat May 26, 2007 2:47 am

yep...i think in 94 Houston won @ Phx with Barkley giving his all on a dead knee.

Sat May 26, 2007 7:41 am

No honorable mention for Spiderman? I saw it opening night in Imax, and there were several people dressed in Spidey suits, and a bunch more wearing Spiderman t-shirts and stuff

Those are probably comic book fanboys, not movie fans.

sounds very annoying Andrew....

yep, I loved how Clutch City never gave up....the Suns thought they had it all wrapped up, but you can "never underestimate the heart of a champion"....I preferred that Rockets team with Clyde Drexler over the 94 team that had Maxwell as starting SG....

Matt wrote:yep...i think in 94 Houston won @ Phx with Barkley giving his all on a dead knee.

I kinda felt bad for Barkley but I preferred to see Clyde "The Glide" Drexler get his only ring :P

Sat May 26, 2007 8:52 am

Obviously it was fun to see Clyde win a title with those guys because he was always one of my favorites, but I've always been a huge Mad Max fan too. What a story he was. Would have fit right in to todays NBA.

But yeah, wow. I totally forgot about the whole heart of a champion motto the Rockets had that year. Brings back a whole lot of memories of those seasons. The only time I've ever been to a game in Houston was that season and the Pacers beat them. That was a very fun game.

Sat May 26, 2007 8:58 am

Ahh, good old "Mad Max"....I quite liked him too when he was with Rockets....unfortunately, as you said, it probably wasn't the time for a bit of a headcase in the NBA....when you look now, they are everywhere & Mad Max would've been seen as emotional, not a loose cannon :P

Top 5 things I like to do when I'm sick
1. Drink all kinds of orange juice and popping pills so I can try to stop myself from getting sick.
2. Lay about and do nothing all day
3. sleeping in.
4. be lazy.
5. go to work (I'm a sucker for punishment)

1. Electric Lemonade-this mixed drink can be pricey but when done right is tasty as hell and at my bar on campus they tend to give you a glowstick. After about 3 of these, glowsticks are the greatest thing on the fucking planet
2. Margaritas-The classic, tasty, and get you drunk fast and hard.
3. Long Island Iced Tea-Only 3rd on the list because the last time i did long islands i ended up hooking up with a girl in a power wheelchair....Gets you drunk and possibly sloppier due to the various types of liquor(not to discriminate or anything but hey)
4. My various concoctions from Freshman Year- I learned one thing in college: underage drinkers are resourceful. Only got 1 type of soda and 1 type of liquor? its time to give it a taste test. If its bad, drink more so its good, and if its good, write it down so if you black out you'll have it documented. Includes: Mountain Dew and Green Apple or Strawberry Vodka...also good with captain morgan, Code Red and Bacardi Limon, Arctic Shatter Powerade and Limon,
5. Malibu Rum-would be number 1 if it was higher proof, this stuff is amazing. I could drink a fifth of it and not taste it.

Sat May 26, 2007 11:29 am

I like Malibu. That's a good beach drink.

I know exactly what you're talking about for number 4. It seems like its even more so true where you are in Champaign. I was there about a month or so ago and I walked in to a party and was handed a mix of hawaiian punch and effen vodka.

I was very upset that Effen was being drunk any way other then straight. If I were to remove the 2 beers from my list I'd have Effen and Jager on there instead.

I have some fun stories around Jagermeister. Seems like every time I'm doing Jagerbombs I have a great time.

Sat May 26, 2007 12:17 pm

underage drinkers are resourceful

 Very resourceful.

About 2 weeks ago I had a drink that tasted so good, I kept drinking it despite thinking "Ok, I don't want a hangover tommorow, so I'm not getting drunk tonight". The only thing I remember about that night was falling into a skate bowl and going on a mission to pick up my cousins alcohol (don't remember what) bottle that he left on the sidewalk after we had to run from some angry dude, I don't remember why, but the guy was standing with his arms crossed with the bottle at his feet saying he will beat the shit out of us if we try get the alcohol back. I didn't have any bruises or pain the next day, so I don't think he hit me.

That drink was awesome, too bad I didn't have a pen and paper like you said.

Top 5 players I want to see make the NBA, in no particular order:

1. Darius Washington, Jr. - Just always loved watching him play, I always tried to get hold of his HS games. I don't know why he left Memphis so early, but he still has alot of talent and potential. Just needs to put it together. Probably dominating some league in Iceland or something. Only a guy of his ultra coolness can go undrafted and still have an official website.

2. Marcus Haislip - Had all the physical tools he needed to become succesful in the league but didn't. Incredible athleticism (put back against New Jersey I think, find the video and you will see his insane jumping ability), range on his shot, strength, size, rebounding ability, quickness, shot blocking ability... you name it. RIP Marcus Haislip's NBA career.

3. Isaiah Swann - I used to live over the fence from my high school and me and a friend of mine bunked a couple classes and jumped the fence to my place for a feed and to watch FSU vs I think South Carolina. Isaiah Swann cleared a guy completely and dunked it, my friend broke my home phone and I smashed a glass against the wall. Still joke about that today.

4. Michael Gardener - Completely tore the National league here to shreds, cool guy too. Played like Allen Iverson over here, was an unstoppable force offensively. I don't remember a game where he didn't have 30 points or thereabouts. I remember the game he made a fake behind the back pass move on a fastbreak, causing the guy to fall, then dunking. Sweetness.

5. Mike Chappell - Saw quite a few of his games in the NBL (Australian) for the New Zealand team, the main memory I have of him was when he dropped 44 points on Brisbane (I think Brisbane?) a few years ago. Amazing skill and an even better guy. Was a pretty heavily recruited HS player before going to Duke then on to MSU. Now that I think about it, he was Kevin Durant before there was Kevin Durant. Damn I miss the guy.

EDIT: And Kenny Walker, formerly of Alabama. Awesome dude and made guys here look plain stupid. No bullshit, once he did the Hakim Warrick, jump from a stand still from distance and turn in midiar and jam it on somebodies family dunk - twice in a game. Another awesome guy, dropped like 14 and 8 here for my local team and I believe he was signed by the Miami Heat at one point.

I would say Carlos Powell who played for the New Zealand team in the Australian NBL, but I haven't watched any local basketball for a a long time and only started watching because Michael Gardener was tearing up the NZ NBL. So, I haven't seen that much of Carlos. He will probably be in the NBA soon anyway.

haven't had blue label, but really want to....my favourite bourbons & scotches that I've had are:

1. Jack Daniels
2. Johnnie Walker Black Label
3. Chivas Regal
4. Jim Beam Special Reserve (has a splash of Port in it)
5. Jamieson Irish Whiskey

I have an unopened special edition bottle of Islay in my cupboard....it's aged 8 years....although it holds a special place in my heart as my ancestors from my mother's side came from the Isle of Islay in Scotland & use to own a brewery there....I will have to find out if it is the same one, but yeah, this one is going to age for a few more years I'd say until a very special occasion....

Sat May 26, 2007 12:40 pm

Blue Label is really good. I've only had it once because of its price/difficulty to accquire. The only reason it isn't higher on my list is because the other ones have many great memories attached.

As for Shannon, its funny to see Marcus Haislip get mentioned. He had a stint with the Pacers after the brawl and actually wasn't too bad. He played pretty well in limited time, but was cut as soon as AJ recovered from injury.

Sat May 26, 2007 12:56 pm

I want to fly Emirates 1st class....apparently, you can drink unlimited blue labels, or so I've been told....with Emirates, that wouldn't surprise me at all....although would be cheaper to just buy it duty free, although it's a lot to spend on a bottle....

as for Haislip, he's also someone that I wanted to see do well....but my main NBA disappointment would have to be John Wallace....I so wanted to see him do well....he was my first favourite college player....later on it would be guys like Laron Profit & Arizona 6th man, Jason Terry....

Sat May 26, 2007 1:21 pm

It seems Marcus has played well on every team in limited time, he needs minutes to prove his worth. Someone sign him!

While on the topic of the New Zealand basketball league, I just found out Jameel Pugh plays for Otago... I'm so going to the next Rams vs Otago game just to see him try pull off some crazy shit.

Good topic... here's mine:

1.) Crown Royal
2.) Jager
3.) Stella Artois
4.) Busch Light (everyone will prolly laugh at this one... but Busch is my favorite American beer by far... and it's cheap as hell too!)
5.) Labatt Blue / Coors
Honorable mention: Southern Comfort

I don't really drink much liquor other than Crown, Jager, and the occasional Smirnoff vodkas... definitely more of a beer man. Here's a pic of mine and my roomates' empty bottles a couple months ago...

We're not alcoholics. :D

Stealing Andrew's idea of what I hate about work since I just came off a busy day. I work at a movie theatre selling fast food, by the way.

In no particular order, just some things that have been getting me cheesed lately:

1. People chewing gum while ordering their food and making that loud chewing sound when they are talking. It's just so annoying listening to that sound.

2. People on the cellphone, talking to their friends when they are supposed to be odering when there is a MASSIVE lineup.

3. People trying to order food that isn't on the damn menu, and then question why we don't have it or why our prices are so high. The hell should I know, I get paid minimum wage and if you can't afford it then don't buy it.

4. People mispronouncing words, can't spell/read the god damn menu and then procede to go nuts on the cashie (most of the time, that's me) when they punched in the wrong food order because the person can't god damn read.

5. People who try to act funny or "cool" to their friends because they think that employees at the movies are made of wooden planks and won't feel offended when they make some dumb remark or act like a smart ass.

It really is, especially if it's been somewhat of an unpleasant day.

Top Five Favourite Beers

1. Tooheys Extra Dry Platinum

A step up from regular Extra Dry in taste and alcoholic strength, Platinums are expensive ($50 for a case of 24) but if a night of drunken mayhem is in the cards, it doesn't take as many to get the ball rolling.

2. Crown Lager

Another of the more expensive beers, though I haven't met too many beer drinkers who don't enjoy a Crownie.

3. Stella Artois

I don't get this one very often though since it was on tap at the restaurant we went to after the Community Day last year and EA Sports was footing the bill, I decided to make good use of the opportunity.

4. Tooheys New

Fairly cheap but still a pretty good beer, it's usually my beverage of choice unless I feel like getting one of the more expensive beers for a special occasion.

5. Corona

Another beer I'll treat myself to every now and again, should I feel like spending the extra money.

Honourable mentions: Carlton Draught, Tooheys Extra Dry.
