I wanted something to say to prove that I would walk up to somebody family that Tookie killed and say that he should be freed. It's not like there are only one person in the nation that thinks he should be free.

Ok, this is gonna come out kinda rough cuz it's hard to give a to-the-point explanation on this, but nigger has hardly ever been used to describe someone other than a black person. So when a black person calls another black person a nigger, it almost immediately eliminates racism for the possible reason that he was called a nigger; mainly because he is no different than the person who was called a nigger.

So basically,

Got it. But it doesn't eliminate racism if a black person calls a black person a nigger at all. All it does is acknowledge the other person is black by calling him a nigger, but you're singling out that person as black or as a race rather than acknowledging him as a person. Why not say, "Hey Joe" (acknowledgement by name) or "Hey man" (acknowlegement by person) rather than "Hey nigga" (acknowlegement by race). By doing that, black people are actually being racist against their own race, which has been flying under the radar for so long since people hasn't been recognizing that. You don't hear white people calling each other crackers, or Asian people calling each other chinks, because they're smart enough, no offense, to recognize that calling each other in racist terms is idiotic in itself.

It's a racial slur but a lot of folks of Greek and Macedonian descent here in Australia use it to describe themselves in the same sort of way. I'm white so my perspective on the whole thing is basically guesswork, but I always assumed it was sort of rebelling against racism, attempting to render the slur useless by making it a term of belonging (affection?) within the group of people it was meant to offend.

That's what I mean. If they're ok with the same race saying it because it's "not racist" but they go crazy if another race says it, then it's hypocritical because it's the term that's offensive regardless of what race says it. And if it's not offensive because of the race, then that's racist in itself!

I sort of agree, though I'd guarantee there's alot of college educated people who are racist as hell. I mean I've heard of judges being in the KKK... things like that.
