In football, yes.

Slovakia is a miracle. Lets go Stoch...(he signed with Fenerbahçe)

Last 16
Uruguay vs South Korea
United States vs Ghana
Germany vs England
Argentina vs Mexico
------------------------------------
Netherlands vs Slovakia
Brazil/Portugal* vs Chile/Spain*
Paraguay vs Japan
Portugal/Brazil* vs Spain/Chile*
*Switzerland could still go through if they beat Honduras and Spain beat Chile by a few goals. Plus Portugal can top Group G if they beat Brazil.
Argentina definitely have the easier half of the draw. Although they still have to meet Germany or England in the Quarter Finals.

People laughed at me back in November when I predicted that Ghana would make it to the semi finals. It's now looking very plausible, although I hope the Yanks beat them
Fri Jun 25, 2010 10:05 pm
I agree with the Serbian coach, Australia and Serbia were better than Ghana and deserved to go through more than they did.
But they've had luck on their side so far so I don't see why they can't make it past USA at least.
Fri Jun 25, 2010 11:05 pm
I'd favor Uruguay as the favor to make it to the semi finals. As for the other side of that seeding, it's just brutal. England, Germany, Argentina and Mexico? You just gotta love it.
Japan really surprised me. I stand corrected in underestimating Asian teams. Europe 13 tickets, Asia 4 tickets, Africa 5 tickets, Host 1 ticket, and Oceania 3 1/2? That seems about fair.
Fri Jun 25, 2010 11:51 pm
Glad Italy is out, always been a team of fucking divers. I think Argentina and the Netherlands will be tough to beat.

Spain can still be left out as well, even draw won't be probably be sufficient (that's if Switzerland wins). But I still see Chile and Spain advancing.

Juan should have gotten a straight red for that. He deliberately handled the ball when it was going over him to Ronaldo. Poor refs...

Oceania gets 1/2 a ticket, New Zealand had to beat Bahrein to get to the WC.
Take a look at it here.

Caught the last 20 minutes of the Portugal-Brazil match. Was the whole match so dreadful?

Thanks for clearing that up.
Given how all teams from south america made through to the next round, they are impressive this year.
Sat Jun 26, 2010 1:34 pm
South America together has only lost 1 game (Chile vs Spain). Going into the last 16, all but 1 seem to have a possibility of going to the quarter finals (Brazil faces Chile).

Nice to see Slovakia make it through in their first ever World Cup.

Uruguay advances
Sun Jun 27, 2010 2:49 am
I thought Korea deserved better than that, they had a good game, they're actually pretty impressive technically. Their defense is a little weak though.
Tomorrow is gonna be a badass day, with Germany-England and Mexico-Argentina
Sun Jun 27, 2010 3:45 am
USA vs Ghana next. Hope the referees don't steal a game from the US again.
Sun Jun 27, 2010 1:58 pm
A.GYAN SCORES IN INJURY TIME TO SEND GHANA TO THE QUARTERFINALS! ZOMG
Sun Jun 27, 2010 2:31 pm
What is more amazing is they didn't need a penalty to win a match.
Mon Jun 28, 2010 12:49 am
Terrible refereeing continues. That ball was a mile over the line. Still confused as to why FIFA don't have replay technology implemented like the NBA do. Such a big game to miss something like that.
Mon Jun 28, 2010 12:51 am
Wow, Wembley 2.0.
Only this time it's clear as day and it favors the Germans.
Mon Jun 28, 2010 2:03 am
What a fucked up refereeing, waving off an definite goal. How are these morons still keeping the jobs? Had the game tied at 2 apiece, England could have had chances in this game. Anyways, grats to German.
Mon Jun 28, 2010 2:14 am
I suppose the game could have ended differently if that goal had of been awarded, but Germany deserved to win because England were terrible.
English press building Wayne Rooney up as the best player in the world in the last year or two and he totally didn't show up at this tournament.
This should never of happened though. They should have beaten USA and Algeria and topped their group to face Ghana instead of Germany.
Deja vu for Argentina. Facing Mexico again in the Last 16 and if they win they play Germany in the Quarter Finals again. Just like in 2006.
Mon Jun 28, 2010 2:22 am
I agree that Germany still deserved it overall, their defense and midfielders were way more solid, and they certainly didn't need that many occasions to score. But it really is concerning to see goals not being counted at such a level of competition, that's precisely why they have two referees on the sides...The game could have certainly looked different at 2-2, but I think Germany was superior overall.
Mon Jun 28, 2010 3:16 am
No doubt. Germany as usual was great. Living in English speaking nation and watching the world cup easily makes me recognize how overrated premier leaguers are. After all, they play with the best of the best and most plyaers there are English.
