This NFC playoff race is insane. Really not a huge difference between 1 and 5 and i think the Rams are actually dangerous when they're on.

Definitely looking forward to Saints/Falcons tonight.

Oh and my boys locked up the #1 pick. Hoping we can pull a harbaugh/luck package deal. But knowing us, we'll trade it away.

I saw that on the local news this morning, I got all excited and then I remembered, "Fuck it. It's the Panthers we're talking about, we'll probably screw this up."

I was aware they only up two after Buehler missed the PAT. I watched all the way to the spike to set up the Arizona game-winning field goal, on which a penalty was called. The ten-second runoff would have ended the game, the Cards being out of timeouts and there being only ten seconds remaining, so I switched off. Turns out there is no runoff for illegal formation, which was what was called, so they got the kick off in time. Caught the replay. Not quite as fun as watching it not knowing the result, though.

Pulling for the Seahawks Sunday. A 7-9 team having a home playoff game should start some conversation about the NFL's shitty playoff system.

they need a D-lineman or some defensive help and then a WR in the 2nd or 3rd. i think if they shore up that O-Line, clausen & jstew &smith could do some things next year. clausen hasn't been completely terrible this season. they could've beaten all the bad teams this year.

and at first i didn't like the idea of someone "NFC Westing" it into the playoffs, but i don't think you should take it away and completely devalue the divisions and the divisional games. i mean, it was totally the 49ers' to win this year and they choked. so blame the owners/GMs/coaches because the players are still playing hard. the seattle/st louis game would be completely meaningless if it was done by record and could lead to more starter benchings if say the top 2 seeds were in the same division and they had them locked up

Lets say this seasons shitty year in a secondary was a fluke (due to chris gamble and others having their worst seasons in a while). Also, our d-line is young with alot of potential. Also, quality d-line guys can be picked up in later rounds. As much as i love guys like Suh, they dont change the face of a franchise like a qb can. WR? Gettis and Lafell have been great when clausen has time to get the ball out. If we keep clausen, i dont think we keep smitty happy, and smitty unhappy is bad. But my problem lies not in the lack of clausens potential, but the way he plays. He plays like an entitled little pussy who's never been hurt and never had to work at anything. He's a cocky prick, thinking he's great when he achieved almost nothing at Notre Dame. Jake may have been inaccurate as hell, but he was fiery, passionate, and could get a team to rally with him. Clausen doesnt have that in him and I dont think he ever will.

So what if a team choked or the coaches/GMs fucked up? It doesn't matter. This is the first year they've intentionally scheduled division games in the final two weeks to make sure they mean something anyway. I'd rather devalue the last two weeks of the regular season than the entire playoffs, personally, which is what you do once you let in the 7-9 Seahawks over the Giants/Buccs/Packers/Saints, and give them a first-round home game. It's just stupid.

Fifteen week season. It needs to be done.

Re: NFL Talk

So the Seahawks get in at 7-9, whilst the Giants and Bucs both miss out and 10-6. I'm all for as much of the regular season being meaningful as possible, but the playoffs are basically pointless.

Re: NFL Talk

Tue Jan 04, 2011 11:44 am

at least it made the rams/seahawks game interesting. bad call at the end where they didn't even measure for the 1t down and just gave it to seattle. some tim donaghy stuff right there.

and theyre gonna stick with the 17 wks or go to 18 if the owners win. too much money to be made. it's the #1 sport in the US

Re: NFL Talk

Tue Jan 04, 2011 1:53 pm

Sure. The Rams/Seahwaks game was interesting.

On the other hand, the entirety of the playoffs is pointless.

Well done, NFL.

Re: NFL Talk

Tue Jan 04, 2011 2:21 pm

yeah it isn't perfect and could definitely use an adjustment like how the nba changed the seeding to make it like the nfl's where all divsion winners are guaranteed home court advantage but not a top 3 seed. in the 08 playoffs the jazz had home court over the rockets but the rockets had a better record than them.

I'd say the first round is pointless. But outside of the Seahawks: any team in the NFC could beat any other team. There's not a huge difference between 1 and 6 if you exclude the seahawks. Im actually really looking forward to the NFC side of things. The AFC doesnt seem as exciting to me with how good the Pats have been this year. I dare say they're better than their undefeated season. Go figure.

Im gonna go ahead and make picks for the first round.

New York Jets at Indianapolis Colts
THe Jets have been more lucky than good this year. They're woefully inconsistent, especially against good passing teams. The Colts have Addai back and Dominic Rhodes apparently has given them back the run game they were missing for that stretch in which peyton threw a ton of picks. They seem to be over that problem. Also, you never pick against Peyton Manning at night. At least not in the 1st round.
Pick: Colts

Baltimore Ravens at Kansas City Chiefs
Statistically, the Ravens vaunted defense isnt that good this year. Its actually pretty middle of the road. The offense is way more consistent than in the past 2 years and they've been in this situation before. Kansas City is a bunch of young up and comers (Jamaal Charles, Eric Berry, McCluster) with alot of potential. While I'm pulling for the Chiefs, I think experience/Vet leadership wins out and the Ravens sneak into the 2nd round
Pick: Ravens

New Orleans Saints at Seattle Seahawks
Seattle made history being the first sub 500 team in playoffs. And the Saints are going to make history winning their franchise first playoff game on the road. The Saints arent as good as last year and I dont think theyll repeat, but they'll get through this round. The Seahawks dont have enough D to stop Brees.
Pick: Saints

Green Bay Packers at Philadelphia Eagles
This is probably the best matchup of the weekend because its completely unpredictable. If Green Bay contains Vick and Rodgers keeps up how he looked at the end of the season, I don't see them losing. But with Vick, Jackson, Maclin, Mccoy at the helm of the Eagles offense, no amount of time left on the clock is too short for them to come back (as proven during that giants game). It may be homerun plays only but this Eagles team doesnt seem to stay away very often. I'm pulling for the Eagles because I enjoy watching them, but my brain says the Packers D is gonna contain them just enough. Its almost too close to call though. Really it depends who makes dumber coaching decisions between McCarthy and Reid. I dont trust the fat fuck so I gotta pick Green Bay
Pick: Packers.

But given the significant chance that the Bucs or Giants could also beat any other team in the playoffs, but don't get that opportunity, the playoffs are pointless. Not boring, or guaranteed blowouts, or anything like that. Just pointless.

well giants at #7 could just look back at the 28 pts they allowed in 7 1/2 minutes vs philly and blame themselves for not making the playoffs.

my picks- colts, ravens, saints, packers. ive been following both gb and philly all season and hate to see them go up against each other. vick is the most electrifying man in football but has looked somewhat human the last couple weeks. packers d can pull it off.

Given that there are no undefeated teams in the league, I'd suggest you could say the same thing (or something similar) about any of the teams in the playoffs. Particularly the fucking Seahawks.

Re: NFL Talk

Wed Jan 05, 2011 5:15 pm

i know but im saying it's on them that they didn't make the playoffs. oh and the whooping gb gave them 2 weeks ago couldve given them the tiebreaker so sure they got penalized for not being in the west but they had plenty of chances to make it regardless of the playoff format. anyways, i dont have a huge problem with it i had a bigger problem with the way they played sudden death in the playoffs more than the seeding

SEAHAWKS, bitches. Absolutely turrible team hosting a playoff game.

U Mad?

Every team has 16 chances to make the playoffs. The Giants took ten, the Seahawks took 7.

Where's the problem?

Seahawks are up by 11 right now. Not looking good for the Saints.

Any given sunday fuckers.

Marshawn Lynch may have made the beastiest play i've seen all year.

Beast Mode by Lynch. That was fuckkin incredible, he broke like 5, 6 tackles.

Phenomenal. Absolutely fucking phenomenal. Worst playoff team ever upsetting the champs. If this were even a best of 3 series, we wouldn't win, but we're somehow advancing!

Well weren't you the one saying everyone has 16 chances? so you can look at the regular season as the beginning of playoffs?

Honestly, if they could afford it, they'd probably do it.

But then you're back to the Giants deserving to be at this stage more than the Hawks.

Did Marshawn grab his dick going into the end zone? Oh yes he did.
